We stay here a few times a year and it never disappoints, its so relaxing the rooms are beautiful and clean. The staff are polite and nothing is to much trouble. My only tiny, tiny criticism is that I do like the option of breakfast in bed on a Sunday :)

My best friend and I visited HdV this Sunday as a treat and had a really mixed experience. The staff were at first very attentive, but as the Bistro got busier with larger groups this fell away. I asked 3 times for a jug of water for the table, however staff would come over, top up our tiny glasses and...

I visited the Spa for two treatments. I was greeted warmly and showed around quickly, then left to enjoy the sauna/steam room before my treatments. I was disappointed to find that the sauna wasn't working (it was cold inside), but I used the steam room instead which was great. However, there were used cups everywhere - in the steam room...

Restaurant a disappointment. Ordinary food at premium prices, with service a real struggle. Our waiter's pre-occupation with telling everyone his life story prevented him actually attending to the diners' requirements. Nice room but unbearably hot, and no means of bringing the bathroom temperature below that of a sauna. We stayed at the Savoy in London the previous week and ate...

My husband and I stumbled upon this hotel years ago after a recommendation. Having lived in Birmingham for over 15 years, the original stay was for pure relaxation but HdV enchanted us from the beginning. This hotel gives undeniably the best atmosphere for amazing sleep I have ever encountered. Previously the eye hospital, HdV have refurbished this building to a...

Five of us had a birthday Sunday lunch here. There is no hotel car park so I had to park on a meter which only allowed a maximum of 2 hours per session. I'd not been here before, although my friends had been several times and always said how good it was. Anyway, my first impression was very good. The...

This was a business trip where we had hired a room for a meeting during the day with dinner, breakfast and over night stay. On arrival nobody showed us where to go or to help ourselves to tea or coffee on arrival. This was served in the internal court yard which was a bit chilly. This had a knock on...

I frequently stay for business and have had a variety of rooms - those away from the street are best as at times there can be some noise. Last night I had the Steenburg which was almost a suite. Spotlessly clean; beautiful bed linen; nice little touches such as the Nespresso machine and their complimentary toiletries. Staff very efficient and...

On arrival on Saturday night I was disappointed to find that our table wasn't even ready despite the restaurant being notified of our arrival by the bar staff. The service was incredibly slow and the food was of a poor standard. My prawn cocktail starter was very average - I have eaten better at local diners! Myself and my husband...
