Situated in one of the oldest streets in Llangollen and a few seconds from the high street, Gales has 16 en-suite bedrooms. All our rooms are individually decorated and sympathetically restored in keeping with the historic character of the buildings. Eight of the rooms are above the Wine Bar in a Georgian townhouse, with many original features. The remaining rooms are in a much older timber framed building across the driveway. These rooms have exposed beams, wattle and daub walls and all have original features. All our rooms are available as double or single occupancy, many can be used for twin or family occupancy. All our rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, hair-dryers, direct dial telephones, widescreen televisions and wifi access. Continental breakfast is included with your stay but cooked options are available.

This hotel is very well positioned within Llangollen and for us it was a good choice for leaving the car and exploring. The building is old and as such all the little quirks and imperfections are expected. The room was comfortable and clean and we slept well. But if you want perfection then this isn’t the place for you. The floor of the room bowed in the middle so it felt as if you were permanently drunk! The shower was poor, little more than a dribble. Easily rectified if a little money was spent. The doors to both the room and the bathroom were ill fitting and the windows didn’t open properly. We had dinner in the wine bar which was good. Staff were really friendly but very under pressure and because of this the service let it down. Breakfast was chaotic and took over a hour to arrive from taking our order. More staff needed!! Having said that we would stay here again as we had a brilliant weekend in this beautiful town in wales.

We stayed for two nights at Gales this week , check in is at 4 pm a little late but then the rooms are sanitised before taking them .
Check in was pleasant and we were able to park our car in the yard .
We wandered around Llangollen town before going into our room at 4 pm.
Our room was large but with a very tiny shower room . We were on the top floor.
From our window you could see Castell Dinas Bran over the rooftops.
We had a couple of issues but these were resolved immediately by the lovely lady on reception.
We had an excellent nights sleep in a very comfy double bed, in the morning we had an amazing breakfast, my husband had welsh full and I had vegetarian ful breakfast , ( avocado , beans , mushroom , chives , tomato, hash brown scrambled eggs, spinach and granary toast ) it was fabulous ! Setting us up for the 11 mile panorama walk .
We came back in the late afternoon to find a bag of beverages etc on the door handle . Lovely top ups for us !
We ate out in town , another peaceful nights sleep followed by a great breakfast again , the young girl serving the breakfasts was so cheery , polite and a pleasure to chat with.
Our car didn’t move for two days which was ideal for us whilst going off on daily walks .check out was easy and the lady wished us well on our way . All in all a very nice and pleasant stay and a great central place if you are walking from Llangollen 👍

My friend and I were on a driving weekend in Wales and booked a one night stay at Gales. The bedroom was ok, but a little more shabby than shabby chic. The bed was comfortable but the room was too hot at night.
We chose to have our evening meal in the bar. My chicken schnitzel was very good. However the service was a bit hit and miss. Someone came to ask how our meal was after we had both finished it, which is a bit later than you'd typically expect. We waited about half an hour for someone to ask if we wanted dessert. Eventually I had to go and find someone to ask if we could order dessert. By the time our order was taken, there were only two portions of dessert left, neither of which we wanted, so we didn't bother.
We were told that breakfast on Sunday started from 8.00am. Since we had a long drive ahead of us, we came down at 8.00am to find the bar locked and no sign of any staff. Eventually the chef turned up and said that although he could cook for us, he had no idea how to turn the lights on in the bar. With no obvious sign of any other staff, we took the decision to leave without breakfast.
All a bit amateurish really.

Stayed on 13 July we were given Room 16 ground floor. On entering we were pleasantly surprised as had a double bed, single bed and fresh bales of fluffy white towels… all good… until we went into the bathroom… obviously the cleaner had “forgotten” to clean the toilet. There was dried faeces all around the toilet bowl- looked like it had been there for a while… I was nearly sick… we went to try to find a member of staff to complain and ask for the toilet to be cleaned… however there was a music festival on so there were queues at indoor and outdoor bar and as there is no manned reception we had no choice but to go to the Spar shop and buy toilet cleaner etc and do it ourselves… not a great start to our stay.
In fairness to the establishment the beds were comfortable and bed linen good quality.
When we checked out this morning the lady behind the bar asked if we’d enjoyed our stay… I explained the positives first and then went on to tell her about the dreadful state of the toilet and suggested that they speak to their cleaner. She did apologise but offered no real explanation other than it must have been the weekend cleaner… no reduction in the £105 room rate and no offer to cover costs of toilet cleaning products. I have travelled all over the world and stayed in a number of interesting places but I have never experienced anything as poor as this. I would not recommend staying here and the staff don’t appear that interested in true customer service. So disappointed.

Very disappointing on every level. A tatty place that looks grim from outside and tired and untouched inside. Reception is in what feels like a store room with boxes and bottles of wine all over, empty boxes and no atmosphere. Our room had wires and extension leads everywhere, curtains hanging off the rails and such a dowdy decor it was depressing. The mattress was in fact a slab of foam rubber laid over the original thin mattress. Really? They give ÂŁ6 food vouchers towards breakfast or evening meal but don't get too excited about either option. A soulless place.

In need of TLC and a coat of paint. Blinds falling off, concrete into main bedroom missing(dangerous),door handles held on with big screws sticking out, carpet tired and worn and living room is dark and depressing. Without going all Lawrence Lewellyn Bowen on you such a small dark room does not need dark leather couches, brown carpet and black painted beams. Another issue was breakfast, it clearly states you get a ÂŁ6 voucher towards breakfast but this does not apply to the cottage as it is self catering. This is not clear on the website. We only booked the cottage for more room as we had a dog and thought having your own courtyard would be useful. The courtyard was full of scaffolding, ladders, junk and loads of plants. The plants I could easily put up with and there was an old bistro table and 2 chairs amongst everything. If I was to stay again (doubtful) I would just get a room or suite.

Be prepared to be dissapointed if you are allocated room 4 or 7. The rooms were too small for a wardrobe so you will need to hang your clothes in the door hooks. You need to be slim and agile to get around the room if you're in a couple. That said they were clean and the bathrooms were pretty decent.
The menu is very limited. This was not highlighted when booking. You may struggle to find something, also tables were not reseverd for guests so waiting is likley. The breakfast is not included in the room rate but you are given vouchers to redeem. The breakfast itself was amazing on the first day, but less so on the second.
This was our first time hoildaying in Wales and be prepared to struggle to find a pub or resturant open in the Sunday evening. Gales closed at 5pm for eating and 8pm for drinks. We did find other places to eat and drink in the town. Again not mentioned when booking, so be sure to ask.
Parking. Make sure you are comfortable with guiding your car through a narrow gateway. We have a large SUV and it was a struggle to get in and out. So much that one guest scrapped the front of their SUV down the wall trying to get in. You have been warned!
The town is lovely with lots of shops and places to see. We were blessed with sunshine so got to enjoy all of it.

I booked to stay here for one night with my daughter, who was performing in a show at the town hall (a stone's throw from Gales).
We were made to feel so welcome by the staff, and the breakfast was DELICIOUS.
French toast with strawberries and cream was a particular hit, and the scrambled eggs were the best I have had anywhere.

It was so good, we booked for a second night too. We were really glad we did.

The whole place is such a treat. The bed was really comfy, and the wine bar is a very special place where locals and visitors mingle in the cosy atmosphere.

The room was toasty warm, and the towels are huuuuuuge!! (big plus from me!).

The staff were all superb, but a special mention for Robert, who was the person we saw most, and he was very friendly and engaging with my daughter.

We had a very special time and would love to stay again.

Yes, you can hear the street noise if you are 'street side', and yes you can hear if the person above you comes back at 03:50, but who cares? The rest of the positives more than make up for this.

Stayed at the weekend, rooms looked old fashioned but nice on the website so we booked based on its location to the activity centre.
Not great value for money, lacked cleanliness and basic comforts.
Situated on a busy street, where music is playing to the small hours of the morning, so if you are looking for a good night sleep..... id avoid it !!

on the plus side, the breakfast is expensive in comparison to its competitors, but well worth it ! Food overall here is great however it is massively let down by its accommodation..... potentially a case to stick to what is working.... or make vast improvements to your accommodation !

Stayed at Gales in Llangollen for a couple of nights. When I chose the hotel breakfast was included, however I was informed that this is not the case at this time and I was not informed that guests would receive any discount on breakfast. Check in had also changed to 4.00 pm which is a little late. The rooms are nicely decorated but noise from the street is loud both at night and early in the morning with deliveries arriving before 6.30 am.

We chose to eat breakfast elsewhere. I would recommend Fouzis as you can sit inside, it is good value and quality.

Staff were not particularly friendly other than one young lady who was very pleasant.

Would not recommend and would not return. Certainly does not offer good value for money if you pay full price.

When my husband and I stayed at Gales we found that the parking was quite good. Albeit that at one point we were parking behind a car the owner of the vehicle was not going anywhere and was okay with it.
