This is a lovely B&B in a historical building on a beautiful street. Our room (on the ground floor in the back, so no street noise) was large and comfortable. The bathroom for that room was also large and very nice. You can walk to the city center. We took UBER to the castle to start our city center walk and then we walked back. Driving is difficult and parking in the city center is non-existent as far as we could tell, so it was nice to just leave the car at the B&B in their free parking area in the back. The staff were very helpful. They recommended an Italian restaurant, El Gano, for dinner and made reservations for us. The food was incredible. We ate there two nights in row! The made-to-order breakfast provided by The Lincoln House was very good. I highly recommend this B&B!

The Lincoln House is a lovely Victorian Home near great restaurants and pubs, convenient to public transport or a short taxi ride to Cardiff city centre and the train station. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were beautifully decorated with modern and spacious en suite baths and comfortable beds. A full Welsh breakfast is served each morning along with a buffet of cereal, yogurt, and fruit. One word, there are stairs - because of the historic listing, they cannot install elevators. I am looking forward to staying at the Lincoln House again!

This was a very old style hotel. It has 22 rooms and is full of charm and character. It was very clean and staff were very friendly and helpful.
This hotel is located on the outskirts of the city centre, being an easy 15-minute walk through the park to the city. We really liked its location away from the hustle and bustle, and it made it very quiet.
Our room was on the 3rd floor up 31 stairs. It was small, extremely clean. The bathroom has recently been renovated and was lovely and fresh. The shower was nice and hot with really good pressure. Our bed was a double, the mattress dipped in the middle but it was still very comfortable. We actually had a really good sleep. The room had tea and coffee making facilities.
Breakfast was really nice with the choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, juices and your choice of a full cooked Welsh breakfast.
On-site parking was available at the back of hotel and only has 12 narrow sites for 22 guests so it's first in gets the spot we were lucky to get the 2nd last spot.
We would recommend this hotel especially if you like old charm buildings and we would stay here again we really liked its location.

We enjoyed our 3-night stay at Lincoln House. The breakfast was generous and the serving staff efficient. The problem is the Wi-Fi.
The website states that Lincoln House offers “all our guests free access to hi-speed wireless internet.” High-speed Wi-Fi is identified as anything from 25 Mbps. The four-poster room we stayed in was one of the more expensive rooms in the hotel, however, the internet service was inadequate; slow, lagging in speed, with regular glitches and outages. I took several screenshots over different periods which evidenced the fact that speeds never registered over 6.8 Mbps.
I complained to the management and was told to try using the internet downstairs in the Lounge area, which I did (as well as in the Breakfast area) but it made no difference. I complained again, but the manager told me nothing could be done about it, saying it was probably because the walls were too thick!
I believe the more likely reason is that too many ‘guest’ devices are connecting to a basic broadband service which is insufficient to meet the hotel’s demand! The internet connection in the hotel Reception area didn’t appear to experience problems. Indeed, when we arrived to check-in, a young female child sitting beside the manager was so engrossed in the film she was streaming that she didn’t look up. Furthermore, every time we passed Reception area, staff sitting there appeared preoccupied - either mobile phone-scrolling or typing and streaming away at the PC.
A different story for hotel guests, who must tolerate slower speeds, pages that won’t fully load, glitches, crashes and (in our case) much frustration! As visitors, new to the area, using public transport and walking, efficient internet access was essential for gaining important information about the local area. We asked the management for local information, but they were unable to provide even basic local transport details or bus timetables!
The hotel is in a good location. Away from the busy traffic, it’s an easy walk to be able to enjoy wandering around the Pontcanna area, with interesting shops and very good local restaurants. The nearby leafy Taff Trail is a lovely, peaceful walk to Llandaff or Insole Court and in the other direction, to Principality Stadium and the City centre. It’s a shame that Lincoln House’s ‘free’ ‘high-speed’ Wi-Fi offer for guests is in reality, just an antiquated, not fit-for-purpose facility.

Nice looking from the outside but it's more of a large B&B than a hotel. The rooms have the feel of a B&B - very basic, no frills. The bathroom was tiny with nowhere to put anything. No shelf in the shower for shampoo. Bed was comfy though.
The biggest issue is the poor wifi. It was completely unstable and made working or browsing almost impossible. As there is no mobile signal coming into the hotel, you're totally reliant on the wifi and this was virtually non-existent.
I think if i was paying a modest sum for the room, you pay for what you get but when you pay almost 3 figures, you expect a lot more. It did leave me disappointed.

I've read some of the glowing reviews below but more in tune with the one dated 1st August. The glowing reviews clearly did not pay an extortionate rate for a small dated very old fashioned room like we did in order to go to the Billy Joel concert. Talk about being ripped off. We must have had the worse room in the hotel if the others appear to be so wonderful. Furniture old - not charming - and I normally love olde worlde charm - the shower had mould round it which I did point out to the lady on reception when we left suggesting they might like to use some bleach or mould product. The tiles were smashed by the toilet probably not helped by the glass toiletries on the shelf above. Those toiletries are lovely as I use them myself but the plastic reusable bottles make more sense in a bathroom. Very basic tea and coffee - and I paid £400 for this shabby room . There were cobwebs above the bed and over by the old table. The view from the bedroom window showed the neglect on the side of the hotel. We did actually stay at this hotel probably over 25 years ago and it is likely that not much has been spent on it in the intervening years. While it is a lovely building it really does need some desperate upgrading and a lick of paint.
On a plus side - thankfully the bed was comfortable and not complaining about the breakfast.
It’s a disgrace that hoteliers in Cardiff are allowed to get away with charging crazy money when events are on. We’ve stayed in some gorgeous hotels in many places in the UK and abroad - and paid a fraction of what we were charged here.

Many thanks for your kind review! You booked a room for same the day as the Billy Joel concert (Principality Stadium - 75,000 capacity) when room rates were at a expectedly high premium. Unlike other hotels in the central area the room rate charged included breakfast, free parking and free wifi. Kind Regards, Lincoln House Hotel

Very disappointed. Due to check in on 5th May for one night as attending the Bruce Springsteen concert. However my elderly father suffers from dementia and has deteriorated in the last 24hrs. I have cancelled my concert tickets and through booking.com cancelled the hotel. Free cancellation was up until 28th April and so full payment would be due. Booking.com advised me to message the hotel and explain the circumstances as some hotels will waive the fee. I explained why I was cancelling and in a very short space of time booking.com advised the hotel would not waive the fee. I feel that it likely the hotel will be able to rebook this room , especially as Bruce Springsteen is in town, and the hotel did not suggest perhaps waiving the fee if the room was booked. A very quick response and no obvious consideration of the circumstances makes me wonder if they read my message at all. Disappointing and poor customer service.

Beautiful period building built in 1900 in an excellent location, with it's own car park & just a short walk to the city centre.
We booked a room with a four poster bed overlooking Cathedral Road. The room was very quiet and the bed was so comfy, I didnt want to get up... The room was really beautiful, full of old world charm, fabulous pieces of period furniture but with modern touches such as double glazing on the original sash windows, plenty of plug points and a beautiful ensuite.
The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, from the moment we checked in nothing was too much trouble.
The inclusive Welsh breakfast was amazing, so much choice, they even had gf toast for me & the waiting staff were all polite and very efficient.
The hotel is steeped in history, lovely furnishings and lighting, the stained glass windows are truly beautiful. If you appreciate a hotel that's individual and not part of a chain, this hotel is a great choice.
We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Cardiff.

We planed to come to Cardiff, to do some shopping and to have nice dinner at a restaurant, then after a long day, enjoy a quiet night in a clean room at the hotel for the evening. It was a last minute booking but the day before I sent an email stating that we may pop in before dinner to check in but if not we would be there after our meal and drinks approx 9pm. Half way through dinner I got a call from reception /chef to ask if I was still requiring the room? He was not aware of the email, I had sent it through booking.com so can't believe he wouldn't have got it. I said we would be along later. Rather annoyed to be inturrupted and very awkward to take the call in a packed restaurant. Still, I was looking forward to our £125 room, Inc breakfast. Arrived and was able to park right outside on the street. We were given the front room, wish we had complained as it was noisy throughout the night with people walking and cars. It's on an estate but also a main route to the city. Not happy the coffee/kettle etc in a drawer. What is that all about? There was room on the desk top but then to discover the drawer had not been cleaned and had coffee under the tray. Furthermore a blood stain on the duvet cover, dirty coffee cup and had to crawl under the bed for a plug by the bedside I wished we had insisted on another room. The room radiator was on most of the night and ran at what seemed like 26 degrees. No duvet needed the entire night. It was like a sauna. Impossible to have a window open due to the road noise. Be aware this is an old building and the joists go under the walls, therefore a squeaky floorboard noise travels a long way. Earplugs did help but not enough for a decent sleep. Breakfast was great, a full buffet choice of cereals, fresh fruit, Welsh cakes etc and a full breakfast or a few other smaller choices, salmon and such. The staff at breakfast were great, very efficient. Reception was different in the morning but he did not ask about our stay when I handed him the key. Very dissapointed and doubt we will return.

Apologies should you stay with us not meet with your expectations and trust that your next stay with us will prove to be much improved. In response to your main points: we would state that the coffee/tea/kettle service at our hotel is retained in a chest of draws to limit the potential for viral infection as a result of Covid 19, which unfortunately, is still with us. Our objective is to protect vulnerable guests who may be suseptible to infections of this kind. With regards heating in guests' rooms, we attempt ensure that in winter our system is on throughout the night to provide increased guest comfort and would advise guests simply to turn their radiator valve off should they feel uncomfortably hot. With regards traffic noise at night, as a city centre hotel this can disturb some guests. However, we advise guests on check-in to state any sleeping issues they may have and an alternative room at the rear will be assigned to them as appropriate. Kind Regards, Lincoln House Hotel

Don't go here if you're expecting a swish modern hotel. Located in two huge Victorian houses, the hotel's decor very much stays with its Victorian roots but is not in any way tired. Very clean, good and very polite service, walking distance to the centre of Cardiff. Has its own car park but also lots of free parking in the streets around it and even a street EV charger a short walk away. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was good and came in variations for meat eaters and vegetarians. Only small criticism was that flushing the toilet was more difficult than it should have been! Would definitely stay there again.

Emm, its a few months since i visited - there was a sort of bar towards the rear of the premises - but in all honesty it was more of a lounge area - the owner was very helpful so probally best to check out arrangemdnts when you book.
There are more places to choose from in the Cardiff area.
