Just a flying one night stay over! The room was excellent for what we needed, it was clean, roomy with absolutely everything one would require i.e. shower, toilet, television, tea facility etc. The staff were polite, efficient, friendly, and engaging. We had a late night bed cap with others in the bar and the Italian guy behind the bar was lovely and interesting to chat with. The Welsh breakfast was absolutely beautiful it was clean, perfectly cooked and presented with quality bacon, sausage, eggs etc. The Lincoln is perfectly situated to the town centre for us as it is a nice twenty minute walk into the city centre along a lovely Victorian house street or within and through an attractive park both leading to the front of Cardiff castle. For me The Lincoln three star award is worthy of another star as they are punching well above their current three star status and value for money far exceeded our expectation! My only irritation was I booked online via a booking agency and paid in advance. On arrival I informed the receptionist of this detail but she insisted I pay so I paid twice for my accommodation! Next day I reported this to the guy on reception (Bruce) and this was quickly rectified and funds returned to my account! Bruce remained professional despite my frustration and me probably edging on being rude (Sorry Bruce)! However this does not detract from this excellent and first class hotel establishment that I highly recommend!

Dear Mr Slade, many thanks to you and your good wife for your blockbuster review on TripAdvisor which we can assure you is very much appreciated. We strive for perfection at all times but fully appreciate that perfection can often be a somewhat elusive quality in business and in life in general! We're delighted also to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Cardiff and clearly took in the sights and sounds of the city including the magnificent Cardiff Castle beautifully remodelled by the 3rd Marquess of Bute and left to the Citizens of Cardiff, along with the extensive Bute Park in perpetuity, by the 5th Marquess in 1947 (death duties off-set). We're also very much pleased to hear that your expected refund has now reached your account, demonstrating that 'All's well, that ends well!' We very much look forward to your booking with us once again in the future and trust that by that time the current health crisis shall be a vague memory. Kind Regards, Lincoln House Hotel

Booked the hotel through booking.com , only needed 1 night and this was one of the cheapest we found near the centre of Cardiff.
We arrived and we were greeted by a gentleman on the desk. He confirmed the booking, have us our keys and explained where the rooms were.
I had booked the apartment and a double room. I was lucky to be staying in the apartment and was SO surprised when I opened the door, it was stunning, modern and very well equipped. The 2 double beds were extremely comfy.
Food choice of breakfast , cooked fresh and all tasted great.
Safe to say, I will definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed our single night stay here. Free parking on the main street, a powerful shower, and a tasty breakfast were just what we wanted. Our room (204) would probably be a bit cramped if you were staying for an extended period, but other rooms looked more spacious. Staff were all very friendly.

As some constructive feedback for the hotel, we noted the signs stating they have to pay up to 18% comission to booking.com etc. We did in fact look to book using the hotel website directly, but it was the same price, so we opted for the convenience and security of using a booking site. Maybe they could offer some incentive for booking direct.

Lets start with the good things, the breakfast is spot on with plenty to choose from. The off road parking is good if you get there early and is shut over night. It's a fair walk into the main area in Cardiff but there are some nice restaurants and bars in Pontcanna. Some of the rooms are very small and the beds can be just a small double. Our room had a toilet with no flush mechanism so you had to put your fingers down into the cistern to flush it. I know the rugby puts accomodation prices up but £550 for two night stay in a tiny room is too much.

Many thanks for your review which was much appreciated. Your (2 night) stay at the Lincoln House Hotel was selected as your hotel of choice and as indicated on our website is just outside the central area approx. 15 minutes walk away from the Principality Stadium. As with all major sporting events and due therefore to demand pressure our room rates are reflective of this and include free breakfast for 2 guests, free parking (unlike hotels in the central area which typically charge £25.00 per night) booking commission of 18% payable to the online booking agencies and VAT at 20%. Our Double Beds are standard 4' 6" beds (common in all hotels) with the option of booking a room with a King Bed at 5' 0" bed or a Super-King Bed at 6' 0". With regards the difficulties you experienced with the toilet cistern we would apologise for this but would advise all our guests to report such difficulties to us immediately in order that corrective action may be taken quickly and expeditiously.

We stayed for 3 nights and had a fantastic experience. The building itself is gorgeous and the room we got (king on the bottom floor) was also beautifully presented. The beds were super comfy and the bathroom was spacious and looked brand new!

All the staff were attentive and friendly and the breakfasts were very nice too, especially the full Welsh and the laverbread. The addition of off-street parking is very useful and easy to access any time and the guesthouse is in an excellent location for Bute park and the walk into town, there are also a few pubs nearby if you don't fancy a longer walk.

We had an excellent experience at Lincoln House and will absolutely return the next time we are in Cardiff!

Lincoln House Hotel

This was a very old style hotel. It has 22 rooms and is full of charm and character. It was very clean and staff were very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is located on the outskirts of the city centre, being an easy 15-minute walk through the park to the city. We really liked its location away from the hustle and bustle, and it made it very quiet.

Our room was on the 3rd floor up 31 stairs. It was small, extremely clean. The bathroom has recently been renovated and was lovely and fresh. The shower was nice and hot with really good pressure. Our bed was a double, the mattress dipped in the middle but it was still very comfortable. We actually had a really good sleep. The room had tea and coffee making facilities.

Breakfast was really nice with the choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, juices and your choice of a full cooked Welsh breakfast.

On-site parking was available at the back of hotel and only has 12 narrow sites for 22 guests so it's first in gets the spot we were lucky to get the 2nd last spot.

We would recommend this hotel especially if you like old charm buildings and we would stay here again we really liked its location.

Here is a delightful venue for visiting Cardiff.
We enjoyed a one night stay in a comfortable, spotlessly clean room followed by a freshly cooked delicious full Welsh breakfast.
The owners and their team were friendly and most helpful.
Ideally situated within a 10/15 minutes walk to the city through Sophia Gardens yet far enough out to be on a reasonably quiet main road.
Plenty of non city centre pubs close by.
Perfect venue for the cricket ground.
We will return.

Booked this hotel via booking.com . I went for the king room as pictures looked pretty good. On arrival I was told that I had been upgraded, happy days I thought.

When I got into my room it was not as I was expecting, small was an understatement to say the least. I went to reception and queried the room and the nice chap on the desk told me that it was a king room. He also said I could move if I wasn't happy. Having just had a 6 hour drive from N. Yorkshire I could not be bothered, all I wanted to do was rest.

So went back to room and had a sleep before going out for the night.

When I went into the bathroom I was disappointed to say the least. It was tiny at best and the ceiling had rather a lot of mould on it as did the shower.

Then I noticed more mould in the bedroom which once again is very poor. There is also no light switch by the bed for the main light so one has to get up to turn light on and off.

The bed was very spongy and the walls between rooms are not exactly thick.

Personally I feel that the photos on booking.com does not reflect what you are getting.

On a positive side there is free parking and it is convenient for getting into town. They have obviously updated the windows which was good. Perhaps they can do the same with the curtains so that light doesnt stream into the room early in the morning.

Would I stay again no. If you are going to stay then I suggest you get photos of the room they are going to give you as I believe they are going through a refurb program.

Many thanks for your review and comments. We have since inspected your room and can confirm that corrective action has now been taken. We would state that we don't always get it 100% right, 100% of the time nevertheless we strive to make all our guests' stays with us as comfortable as possible. That said we would advise all guests that should they not be happy with their room that they bring this to the attention of the reception staff and request a re-allocation. In your case you were offered an alternative room however this was declined!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and was very pleasantly surprised.
The hotel is very close to the centre of Cardiff but is also out of the way enough that you're not in the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
Staff were so friendly and helpful throughout the whole stay.
Free WiFi and parking was also a bonus, with the car park conveniently round the back of the hotel.
The breakfast was free and made to order and was delicious.

We booked a King Room via Expedia, and the pictures clearly showed a king-sized bed, spacious room and large bathroom. When we checked in, our room was small, had a queen bed, and a tiny bathroom (with no shelf in shower for soap/shampoo). Upon questioning, we were told that what we'd seen was a Super-King Room, and none were available.

Throughout the hotel, and on all printed materials, were messages imploring guests to only book directly by phone with the hotel, and not through booking agencies. They blamed Expedia for the error, but when we checked other sites (eg Booking.com), they all had the same misrepresented pictures of King rooms.

The bar/lounge is now closed as well, and that was a feature that we had looked forward to.

The included hot breakfast was served promptly each day, but there is limited choice (all straight egg dishes e.g. no pancakes, no granola), and no self-serve buffet. For a heritage hotel, it seemed strange that they highlighted that the china and cutlery come from thrift stores.

The staff were all courteous and helpful, and the hotel was clean.

The Lincoln House Hotel is a family operated enterprise ranked No. 3 out of 75 hotels and rated 4.5 in the Cardiff area on this platform and has also been designated as a 3 star hotel by the Wales Tourist Board. Our room rates are inclusive of breakfast, car parking, wifi and VAT, unlike a great many other establishments. With regards your review we would point out that our rooms are designated in accordance to bed size, in your case a 5'-0" King Bed, which you confirm you booked with us (please note we do not provide Queen size beds in any of our rooms). With regards breakfast, as a 3 star hotel we provide a full range of reasonable breakfast alternatives. We would point out that all our breakfasts are freshly cooked. We make no apology for supporting charitable institutions as we do indeed buy all our china from them including our toiletries from an institution which employs staff with physical and mental health issues, reflective of our support of them and social conscience. We sincerely trust that having been appraised of the background you will perhaps reconsider and approve our overall approach. We look forward to your booking with us once again in future. Kind Regards, Lincoln House Hotel

What is the difference between a king room and deluxe double room? Is it just size of bed ? Thanks

Essentially, yes. But not having a king bed gives more space in the same size room--hence deluxe double.

Emm, its a few months since i visited - there was a sort of bar towards the rear of the premises - but in all honesty it was more of a lounge area - the owner was very helpful so probally best to check out arrangemdnts when you book.
