This hotel in in an ideal position for Cardiff and the Bay. We even walked over to Penarth. It was clean and had everything we needed in the room. Hair dryer, iron etc.
The staff in this hotel were just fabulous nothing too much trouble always smiling and cheerful and so very helpful. The chambermaid the breakfast, bar and reception staff should be commended for making our stay brilliant.
Our deal included breakfast which was good and the room rate was particularly reasonable
Thankyou very much

This hotel is located in an odd location, a residential area that is neither Cardiff bay nor the city centre. It's a bit of a walk to both, although it is a nice area and feels very safe.

There are some works going on which may have reduced the size of the car park. It is certainly inadequate for the demand and it feels a little cheeky to demand £10/night to use it, Sadly like most HIEx in the UK they use the dreadful company Parking Eye to manage their car parks.

The interior design is very typical HIEx in the UK: regular customers will not be surprised. There is a bar that seemed well used. The rooms are also familiar to any HIEx customer, although the door on mine was slightly loose and banged on the lock every few minutes.

Breakfast service was revised with Covid-19, but they have kept the hot sausage or bacon baps (again common to HIEx in the UK). They now make the baps rather than providing the constituent parts, which I count as an improvement. I am not convinced of the value of cling film wrapped bananas, or why disposable cutlery/crockery is any safer, but they have adopted both.

Reception:
The ladies at reception are very nice and welcoming, especially Sabina.

Room / facilities:
Room number 311 is on the 3rd floor and is clean with a water view. Oddly, they don’t make up a room daily, unless requested. This service has no additional cost.

The 2 single beds are jointed to make a king bed, there is a small clothes hanging area, little bathroom, chair and desk, with tea and coffee facilities.
There is no fridge in the room, but reception will keep a small amount of items in the hotel fridge.

Self control air conditioning with a window that opens about 5 cm.

Parking:
Is shared between the Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge hotels, and can fit about 35 cars. Parking is £10 per night, and registration must be provided.

Wifi:
Complementary and good speed. No validation or password required.

Breakfast:
This was part of our room package.
The traditional English buffet breakfast is from 7.00am to 11.00am and consists of cereals, yogurt, breads (to toast) jams and spreads, fresh fruits, pastries, eggs, bacon, baked beans, sausages, juices, tea and coffee. It was noticed that even at 9:00 am refills of milk, and food was slow to come.

Conclusion:
Great location, nice staff, comfortable bed.

Letdowns:
No fridge in the room, possibility of not getting car parking upon your return to the hotel.

Location / Nearby:
Cardiff Waterfront is a 10 minute walk, Cardiff City is a 15 min walk. Both walks are on flat ground and easy to do.

Beware:
No matter where you drive to, payment for parking is required. Most parking meters accept coin and card “tap” facilities. Generally after 6.00pm or 8.00pm parking is free, in designated locations.

Getting to hotel:
Best use GPS

Amazing - completely went beyond my expectations. Very modern bathroom and plentiful room (especially when comparing to other hotels such as premier inn). Lovely breakfast - food was included in the price and staff were constantly replenishing the buffet with freshly cooked food. Reception/ restaurant area was always nice and calm - even at peak breakfast times.

Booked 2 rooms for ourselves and some friends using clubcard points, as we had plans in the nearby Bay. Despite being an express (I thought it meant a small room), the room was a comfortable size, well furnished and the bathroom was really nice. Comfy bed with a choice of pillows, too.
The staff were professional and friendly at check in, and there was ample space in the car park when we arrived. £6 for overnight parking which I thought was reasonable.
Buffet breakfast in the morning, which is included in the room rate, was well stocked and tasty. Plenty of hot food, cereals, pastry/muffin options, yogurts, hot and cold drinks. Even had 'take away' bags and cups so you could take a sausage bap and a hot drink away with you which I thought was great. Lovely hot chocolate for the drive home.
Will definitely stay here again next time we're in the Bay.

Booked a one night stay for myself & daughters to enjoy a shopping trip to Cardiff. Receptionist was friendly & informative when checked in. £10 to park car added to bill spaces limited due to outdoor building work. Hotel set up well for COVID measures, our room was very clean & the sofa bed ready made up & enough towels for us all. Tea/coffee, iron/board & hairdryer in room. Breakfast was included in the price, choice off 4 cereals which were served in the box with a plastic bowl, freshly cooked croissants, yoghurt & fruit, then bacon/sausage/ scrambled egg baps made to order. Tea/coffee & 2 juices also available. You just told the member of staff what you would like & it was put on a tray for you. Will definitely consider staying here again on future trips to Cardiff.

Within a 10 minute easy walk to the WMC in Cardiff Bay the Holiday Inn Express offered the best deal of other hotels in the local area.
Check in was smooth, the hotel was very clean and the service from all staff was excellent. The breakfast had plenty of choice and the cooked buffet food was hot and well presented.
The room, 106, had been prepared with care and was larger than I had expected.
We did use the bar and prices were reasonable.
We only found one fault and we are not sure if the constant repetitive noise is from inside the hotel or outside. At night there is a continuous low sound similar to a heating unit or compressor running. It lasts for exactly 18 seconds and then goes off for one second. It wasn't noticeable in the day, only when we tried to sleep. Despite a very comfortable bed the noise continually woke us during our one night stay.

Stayed here as a couple for one night and the pros and cons are as follows;

Pros.
Good location (1o minute walk to either the City centre or Cardiff Bay area
Quick check-in process
Rooms small but clean
Very quite at night on our visit
Friendly staff

Cons.
Additional £10 per night for parking
No lift working on our stay
Very soft pillows that give little support

The hotel suited ours needs and would recommend if paying a decent room rate we payed £88 (Sunday) which included continental breakfast
