The Mercure Newport Hotel is lauded for its central location, offering guests convenient access to nearby attractions and dining options, which guests have called out as a high point. Many travelers have found the rooms to be modern, clean, and well-equipped, contributing to the hotel's reputation as a tranquil retreat. While the staff's attentiveness and friendliness often receive compliments, some visitors have noted occasional lapses in service speed. Despite mixed views on value due to parking and breakfast costs, the hotel's amenities, including the breakfast selection and picturesque views, are popular among guests.

We chose this hotel due to its location as we were going to a concert in Cardiff, it just a 5min walk to the station, the trains run very frequently and cost under £10 for 2 people!

Parking for the hotel was in the Friars walk shopping centre which is next door, and should cost £15 for 24 hours, I own a vehicle which is just over 2.1mtrs high and got into the carpark without any issues.

The hotel itself is finished to a very high standard, the walk in shower was amazing, heated and lit mirrors, heated towel rail, 2 sinks, toilet and plenty of shower products, the only downside of this was it's echoes a lot! (So be careful!)

The room had a lovely, comfy sofa, a very comfy bed, 2x flat screen tv's, hairdryer, a nespresso coffee machine and a kettle.

We were on the 13th floor with an amazing panoramic view of the river, Bristol channel and everything else inbetween, one thing that would make this better would be a couple of high stools to sit on to admire the view as the sofa isn't high enough.

We did have the breakfast which was buffet service, there was plenty of options and the food was lovely.

As this is a newish hotel I'm guessing there's still a few issues, the day of our checkin was busy, there was 4 staff with laptops and a lot of paperwork to sift through, also I did notice that some of the fixtures and fittings in the room are showing signs of wear already, wallpaper peeling up, carpet joins coming apart, standard lamps very wobbly, this doesn't bother me but for some it will!

Overall its a lovely hotel, great location, friendly staff, it was just a shame it was a one night stay!

Me and my partner stayed at the Mercure Newport as we were attending a concert in Cardiff.
The main reason we booked this hotel was because it is only a 5 minute walk to Newport Train Station but we will definitely return for a mini break as the hotel was simply perfect!

The hotel itself was modern and absolutely spotless. We were greeted with a quick, easy check in with a lovely added safety feature of needing your room key card to use the lift and access each floor. It is located in the town centre so an ideal location for accessing local shops/cafe's/bars.

We stayed in a twin room as there weren't any double rooms remaining when we booked (probably due to the nearby concert) but again it was modern, spotless and the beds were really comfortable - it's one of the best nights sleep I have had at a hotel! The air conditioning worked perfectly, which we were grateful for as we stayed on one of the hottest days of the year.

There is no on site parking as it is in a town centre, but Friars Walk car park was only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel and the parking charges were reasonable considering the location (approx £15 for 24 hours).

The staff were friendly, helpful and professional at all times - we will definitely return. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This hotel had been open less than a week when we stayed there. It is situated in the tallest building in the city centre at some 15 floors. The location is ideal for exploring further afield in South East Wales being only a 15 minute train ride to Cardiff, for that sporting event or night out, and the station is a 10 minute walk away. For sports fans Rodney parade is literally just across the River Usk, this is home of Newport County AFC and the Dragons rugby team. Also it is close to the M4 .
As you would expect from an ACCOR branded hotel staff are very proficient at their jobs but we had a typical friendly South Wales welcome.
First impressions matter and the reception/foyer area is bright clean and uncluttered. Behind the reception desk is a wonderful piece of art showing a rendition of one of Newport's landmarks, the transporter bridge. This is echoed throughout the hotel with old photographs of construction of the bridge displayed in public areas. At check in we were greeted by Katie, who is the ideal front of house team member. Very friendly and although she admitted to having only been in the job a short while it really did not show.
Here I have to admit being a Platinum member of ACCORS ALL loyalty scheme was a bonus, we had a room upgrade to a junior suite on the 13th floor over looking the river. The views were really excellent, up into the valleys and across to England in the other direction. Further we had a view into Rodney Parade, my wife is a county season ticket holder. The suite was very well designed with an amazing bathroom and two distinct areas, one containing the "lounge" with a comfortable sofa tea and coffee making area and ample hanging space. Included in the hanging space was a fridge and safe. The bedroom was light and airy and the bed was very comfortable, we both had a really good nights sleep.
We had made arrangements for an evening meal away from the hotel, which we later regretted as having a drink in the really nice bar area we saw the restaurant menu. The bar is well stocked, which is not always the case with some hotels, and when I asked for a Gin and It was presented with an excellently made cocktail made by Rhys, we chatted with Rhys for sometime and his knowledge of bar keeping shone through.
Breakfast is in the restaurant area and the buffet contains everything you would expect, as veggies we even had freshly prepared veggie sausage. If you consider staying and have breakfast you must try the vegan croissants. A big thank you to the restaurant ladies at breakfast Beverley and Lyndsey, further examples of the really good staff at this hotel.
Please bear in mind if you are due to stay soon this is a brand new hotel and there will be teething problems these are not there to deliberately upset you. For example the terrace outside the bar area is not open at time of writing but will be in due course.

Stayed overnight and parked in the nearby Friars Walk car park (cost £5.10 from 2pm, overnight until 9.45am the following morning - good value: £15 for 24 hours though.) Hotel a few minutes away at ba kofta carpark. You can spot the tall Mercure building

Hotel has only been open a couple of months and has a picture and crpet theme related to the local bridge construction. All very tasteful. Found room smallish (our hoice( but spotlessly clean, adequately furnished and the bed comfortable. It had a small but very nice shower/toilet room with excellent shower. Fixed dispensers for liquid soap, hand cream, shower gel and conditioner thus avoiding plastic waste! Very Eco, although surprised by the high volume of flushed water, even on half flush, on the WC !

Breakfast and dinner served in 3rd floor restaurant. Dinner was nicely presented, tasty and good value. Full and continental breakfast available from servery room. All very good. Even the machine coffee was quite good and hot.

All staff - on reception, in restaurant and handling housekeeping - were polite, helpful and welcoming.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.

If you have time, consider a gentle stroll along the riverside and perhaps a coffee inside or out at the nearby Arts Centre overlooking the River.

I always pick a Mecure Hotel as a first choice for a business trip and even though there was closer cheaper hotels to where I needed to be I picked Mecure Newport and I was beyond pleased that I did.

From waking in and greeted by Richard on reception I was warmly welcomed, he was polite and professional and made check in easy and quick.

I understand the hotel hasn’t been opened long. The room I had on the 13th floor has to be one of the best I’ve stayed in on a work trip. It was really light, warm, comfy and so quiet I could have been alone in the hotel.

Once again Mecure proved why they are my first choice and should be others.

Me and my partner stayed here for one night when seeing Rammstein in Cardiff. The Hotel was a pleasant surprise, it far exceeded our expectations. we really couldn’t fault it. It has only been opened 50 days so has a nice new feel to it, it has been done up to a high spec far surpassing a Premier Inn and for the night we selected around about the same price. They had the bar open and Pizza available until 1am which showed a real thought for their guests during the concert. Parking is pretty much next door in Friars Walk shopping car park, although you do have to pay for this. The bed was comfy, the room cozy and the shower was superb, Great location for Newport and the train station.. all topped off with really friendly and helpful staff.

Went to the British Speedway Grand Prix in Cardiff. The price of hotels in Cardiff were extortionate, as they always are during sporting events or pop concerts. Got a good deal at the Mercure in Newport. It took me about 5 or 6 minutes to walk from the railway station and its only 15 minutes by train to Cardiff. Perfect location and a really nice hotel. Great breakfast and friendly staff. Special mention must be made to Prabha who works in the hotel restaurant ( its called the NP20 ). He was so friendly and went out of his way to help. A real credit to the hotel. Would definitely recommend.

A lovely meal and atmosphere in the new hotel restaurant. Enthusiastic and helpful staff (Thanks Amy-Jane, great service and chat) with great food choice and quality. Not too expensive either which was as a pleasant surprise. A great way to spend our anniversary evening and we will be back. The only feedback we have was to serve the mustard in a little pot rather than the cheap and difficult sachets.
Drinks were also fresh and cold with a cool outside patio for the sunshine. You could be anywhere, other than Newport 😎🏝!!

Brand-new, spacious and extremely clean hotel with wonderfully friendly staff. Convenient, plentiful and good value car parking close by (two minutes’ walk to Friar’s Walk car park) with a variety of shops, cafés, restaurants and coffee shops within a minute’s walk of the hotel. Very good for families with children and buggies as the surrounding area has lots of ramps and lifts to get around the immediate vicinity and into the Friar’s Walk car park.
Great base to explore South Wales as it is two minutes’ drive to the M4 and very easy to get to the Brecon Beacons, Port Talbot, Cardiff and other areas in South Wales.

We booked a night in this hotel Sunday evening as we needed to go to the passport office.
The receptionist was so welcoming and so charming, she made us very welcome.
The room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed was a king size and very comfortable. Within a five minute walk were numerous restaurants serving a variety of foods.
We parked in a multi storey hotel about four minutes walk from the hotel We arrived about 4 pm on Sunday afternoon and left again around 11 the next morning the parking charge for the whole time was £3.90 amazing value.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
