Me and my girlfriend were so happy to come across this hotel, we booked this hotel as we couldn’t get anywhere near Cardiff for a concert as so many places were selling their rooms for extortionate prices. This was a perfect location as it avoided all the chaos of the city and also was in a nice quiet location that was easy to drive in and out of, the staff were very helpful in recommending taxi services and advice and also with assisting with toiletries we had forgotten. It was a very clean hotel and the food was fantastic! We are so grateful that this hotel didn’t raise its prices and only cared about our custom and making us welcome to wales. Would give more stars if possible just because of the great price for a service that deserves to be so much more expensive, thank you all at Newport holiday inn express!

For the price, this hotel is incredibly good value. Beds are comfortable and the shower cubicle is huge.

We were on the ground floor just past the lifts, facing the car park, and didn’t have any noise from neighbours or outside.

The rooms are quite modern but they are dark, there’s not enough light.

Staff were friendly and able to recommend a reliable, local taxi company.

In terms of COVID, the bedding was very clean but the remote control and hairdryer both looked quite grubby, so we didn’t touch them. The sofa bed also had a few stains (make up?) on it.

The breakfast set-up was as good as it could be in current circumstances. There is no buffet, you take your breakfast back to your room. We were told to come down one person per household/room but there were family groups at the breakfast station as well as a few people not exercising social distancing - but there’s not a lot the hotel can do about that!

The breakfast on offer was all pre-packed, the only thing you have to touch that others may have touched is the milk and the tea/coffee station.

On offer was cornflakes, porridge, coco pops, weetabix, fruit, yogurt, croissants and bacon rolls. A vegetarian hot option would have been appreciated. If you are vegan or gluten intolerant then you wouldn’t be able to have much at all.

Location is good if you are using it as a stop off on a longer journey or visiting something nearby, but it’s not in the city centre so wouldn’t advise it for visiting Newport itself. There is a pub next door and a cafe and greggs a little further along.

Overall the hotel is nothing special but we were comfortable with the covid precautions, had a good sleep, and it is very good for the price we paid.

I recently spent 5 nights at the Holiday Inn Express, Newport, which was my second stay at this hotel. Once again, it exceeded all expectations and is a very lovely, relaxing and clean hotel.

Upon checking in, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, explaining everything in detail. I was allocated a room on the ground floor which was convenient. The room was clean, spacious and relaxing and had all the facilities/extras needed.

The bed was very comfortable along with the pillows and the shower was refreshing. Breakfast was also very good. The great thing about this hotel is that you can park free of charge and there are always spaces available, this is a great benefit as many other hotels within the area charge a lot of money to park.

Overall, a great stay yet again and I look forward to returning soon!

Stayed over the Xmas period. The staff were superb with no exceptions. Rooms were immaculate and maintained every day including Xmas day. Breakfast was fine with a wide choice. Can not fault anything. When we arrived we did notice the outside traffic noise (not surprising considering the location) but the rooms we well insulated against it so we had a full and great nights sleep. Whoever the head office may be, you need to congratulate the staff of this hotel as deserve great praise.

I was traveling with my daughter and on a visit to my sisters we discovered we needed to borrow my Brother-in-law's car to bring additional items to my daughters car. We brought both cars over then had breakfast on arriving at 8:40 AM both vehicles leaving at 9:51 AM after checking out and breakfast. 7 days later my brother in law was sent a bill by a company called Private Eye for 60 UK pounds I will certainly not recommend this location to my friends and family ever again. I want to warn everyone to warn others of this disgraceful practice. There were no signs in the parking lot or Lobby warning that multiple vehicles were not allowed per booking.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your review. It is disappointing that you have scored us 2 out of 5 for your stay due to the parking. Our car park is managed by parking eye and there is a sign displayed on every lamp post asking for the car to be registered in reception if using our facilities to avoid receiving a fine. This needs to be done for all cars brought into the car park and multiple cars per room is allowed. If you are yet to contact the hotel directly please do so and we can assist in appealing this fine. Many thanks Philippa Hotel Operations Manager

I booked for a one night stay with nine family members the night before a funeral. All our rooms were lovely, ( my cousins room smelled of smoke but they changed her room quickly , quite late in the evening too, so no complaints there ) . My Aunt needed a wheelchair accessible room and again no problems. My room was a large double with a sofa, it would have slept four but I had it to myself, it cost the same as a single so why not have extra space. It had great air con, a good quality tv, tea and coffee making facilities, a lovely shower room ( clever design ) , a hair drier, everything you’d need and expect for a reasonably priced chain hotel. Free parking and plenty of it ( do not forget to put your reg into the iPad at reception ) . The free breakfast was great, buffet style with bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, croissants, cereal, yogurt and fruit. The only downside was it’s out of the town the only place in walking distance is the pub next door, however the pub next door is fantastic, with beautiful food which I thought was very reasonable considering the excellent quality. The hotel also serves food and has a bar. To summarise it’s a great hotel, with great facilities, I paid £99 through bookings.com , others in our party paid less and some more, between £97 a room to £125 , but we all got value for money.

On our visit to the hotel on the 27th of July it was our son's first birthday we checked in. The staff were good and fast. On the 28th we met Keith Davies on the front desk. He remembered us from 10 days before our trip. He was extremely helpful with us and he wished our boy a happy birthday, when ever he seen our son he would always acknowledge him and make him smile. If anything was needed in our room Keith was always happy to help with any assistance in what we needed. Keith Davies you really made our trip a memorable one thank you so much. We will be back very soon. Many thank Sara Kerry and Harry.

To be fair, the Hotel was very good. Perfectly clean, very polite staff and comfortable stay. But, the menu choice was very poor. We had three people with dietary issues yet none could easily be accommodated. The evening bar menu (8.30pm) was particularly poor. Two of the party could not eat gluten, yet the only thing the Hotel had was nachos and finding out about ingredients was difficult as the staff adopted the typical ‘we have nothing’ approach – generally (we find) due to an extremely risk adverse approach taken to protect themselves rather than trying to work with clients to find a solution. What a poor show. Most of the evening menu required practically no preparation so was it that hard to keep a couple of pizzas in the freezer? In this day and age? It was poor and would certainly influence our likely hood to stay again. But as said at the start of this review, the Hotel itself was perfect fine and very good in all other aspects.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay; I am disappointed to read that you was unable to dine with us when you stayed. I have checked our menus and all of our curry's and soups are gluten free providing we do not add the chapattis and rolls to the dish. I will pass your feedback onto the team and advise them on how we can check our dinner ingredients for gluten to be able to let our guests know. Our pizza's that we stock would not be suitable as they aren't gluten free. Once again thank you for your feedback and I look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in the future. Kind regards Philippa Deputy General Manager
