We stayed at the Marriott Swansea this week with a One Traveller tour group of 30 people. The rooms are not up to 4 star standard. The hotel is tired and in need of complete renovation. The aircon did not work properly, the bath plug did not fit, the rooms were gloomy and not to 4* standard. Worst of all was the food which was bland at best and not worth the price either. Scrambled egg was watery and reconstituted from powder.., Totally impersonal atmosphere and only one loft to take guests up across rooms on four floors. Don’t stay there if you can avoid it. We were surprised and disappointed that a travel company such as One Traveller would select such a venue as the final hotel of our trip. Stay at Morgan’s or The Grand if you get the chance.
Room side view to sea and car park Room spacious and very clean.Comfy large bed and excellent TV..Near Marina which was lovely to walk around in the evening, stopping off for a drink and snack.Nice ride to the Mumbles and Gower.Only down side to room window would not open. But air conditioning came directly from outside of each room. But noisy for sleeping.Otherwise good.
We booked a 2 night stay in a harbour view room with air conditioning, the room was very tired and needed a complete refresh, the bathroom panels on the bath were falling off and everywhere just seemed really worn. The view to the harbour was completely obscured by the blown double glazing which was now full of condensation, the air conditioning did the job but it is the noisiest air con we have ever heard, it was like a train coming through the room. The beds are large but not that comfy. On the plus side the location is ok for Swansea, the area has a number of good drinking and eating places. The breakfast was good and no complaints there.
Good points: clean, really comfortable bed, lovely views, excellent staff, luxury complimentary toiletries, huge TV with many channels, late check-out time, free parking. Bad points: no air conditioning, no bathroom fan, a hairdryer with such little power it look an hour to dry my hair, not enough tea/coffee/milk to last our one-night stay, some cosmetic imperfections with the decor that needed repair (some wallpaper ripped etc.). Overall, I was on the fence between three and four stars but the staff were excellent so I settled on four. We stayed in room 229 and it was really warm. The hotel should consider investing in air conditioning at some point in the future.
Our mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia over 2 years ago and as a family we all try to keep things as normal as possible, our mum has always loved our girly nights and mini breaks and this was no exception, with our happy smiley face masks (which mum loves wearing) we arrived at this wonderful hotel, we had joining twin rooms, which were so comfortable, roomy and spotless, reception was a friendly check in and check out, COVID procedures spot on and service was great, we had a couple of special requests with housekeeping and they were very helpful, the restaurant staff were fantastic, my mum was treated like one of us and very respectfully , our meals were lovely, I had fish and chips one night that definitely out did my fish and chips at Rick Steins. Breakfast was plentiful and very nice, again breakfast staff wonderful, I cannot praise this hotel enough, my sisters and mum visited last year and said they had exactly the same first class treatment then too, my mum was relaxed throughout the stay and hardly stopped smiling and laughing, because of keeping things familiar we ate both breakfast and dinner at the hotel for both nights and mornings. We didn’t use a wheelchair inside the hotel (which we could have) however we did use it from the car park through to and along the beach path and walked several miles as it was such a beautiful day. Would highly recommend, thanks to the Marriott Swansea and your lovely staff…
