The Mercure Swansea Hotel garners accolades for its convenient location and the warm hospitality provided by its staff, which many guests find enhances their visit. While the atmosphere combines modern touches with some outdated elements, the rooms are praised for their spaciousness and cleanliness, though opinions vary on their need for updates and air conditioning. Cleanliness is generally upheld, although occasional calls for fresh paint are noted. Amenities are well-received, yet some guests miss the presence of a swimming pool. Views on value for money are split, with the hotel's affordability contrasting with some criticisms of the food and room decor.

I have stayed in this hotel on a regular basis for a week at a time over the past 18 months with a large group from work. The hotel is conveniently located in the middle of a range of shops, all of which are located within walking distance, although transport will be required for Swansea City Centre.

There is a Lake behind the hotel which is a lovely walk on a nice day if you need to unwind.

The rooms are great; they are large, clean and have plenty of facilities. All rooms come with an iron and ironing board, a desk fan, individual heaters, a large desk, tea and coffee facilities and sockets or USB ports (dependant on room type) next to the bed which is rare to find! WIFI is free and unlimited, unlike some hotels which require payment after a period of time. This has been a massive bonus during my stay here.

Bathrooms are also great, decent size, clean, and with decent showers.

There is an on site bar and restaurant which serves food in the lounge area throughout the day and night and a decent meal in the restaurant in the evening. The lounge area is a great place to sit of an evening and large so there is always a comfy place to sit. The bar prices are a tad on the high side which can quickly add up if you aren’t careful though.

Food is excellent and there is a menu which changes daily as well as the fixed menu items so always plenty of variety.

Breakfast is good with plenty of choice and quality is again very good.

This brings me on to the Hotels jewel in its crown - The Staff. They are what makes this hotel. All the staff have been extremely friendly, extremely accommodating and nothing, and I mean nothing, is too much trouble. Even a large group like ours could be accommodated without stress, fuss or hassle. Housekeeping staff leave little name cards which add a personal touch to the rooms and are also extremely friendly, with a nice hello coming from their upstairs office every morning when you walk past. The staff in this hotel have been the best I’ve ever come across and are what makes the stay bearable when so far away from home for any period of time.

My opinion is that this is the best hotel in Swansea. I will be returning when coming back down in the summer with family as I don’t think any other hotel can offer what these guys offer.

It has been a couple of years since we last stayed here and it seems that there have been some improvements made in that time.
Big positive for the hotel is the large free car park, something that others could learn from.
Check-in was smooth and efficient. We were expected, and we booked breakfast for the next day.
The room had most things that you might expect. Only things missing were a safe and biscuits to go with the tea/coffee.
Large windows on the ground floor now have opening restrictors, so it would not be possible to climb into the room from outside.
Good soft bed giving comfortable nights sleep.
Generally clean room but some areas were dusty which was a little disappointing.
No smell of smoke in our room (other reviews mention this). The hotel is fully non-smoking.
Oddly, our room on this occasion was next to the one from our previous visit and was as far from reception and anything else that you could get. As a result we had a quiet and undisturbed night.
The room is heated by night storage heaters, and when then decide to bang out the heat, they really do. The room does get hot so it is best to keep the window open.
We visited the bar, and I have to say that the barman was a little brusque with his customers. Never rude, but lacking in bon amis. He was able to deliver good beer though.
Breakfast - not busy when we were there, and all the usual fayre was available. The quirkiness here though was the presence of fried bread, which I believe is popular in Wales, but the absence of hash browns and black pudding. The food was all good though and all hot which is increasingly hard to find these days.
Staff in the dining room were all cheerful enough and helpful. I did find it odd that the tables were sprayed and wiped with the table set and just wiped around.
The hotel itself is situated on an industrial estate and seems to be used mainly by working groups and coach parties.
We had a perfectly good stay here and would probably stay here again if the need arose. It seems a shame that the hotel is suffering from a lack of pride. Everyone does what they have to, but no more it would seem. Some areas are neglected and the outside of the building is dirty and clearly hasn't been wiped clean for months.
We did not use the gym nor pool.

Dear Johnny-glen, Thanks for taking the time to post a review further to your recent stay with us.and it was good to read that you would stay with us again. I can assure you there is no lack of price within my team, but we do have to work to a tight budget, and if everyone did as you say 'Do what they had to but no more' we would be in very dire straights indeed, and I can assure you 100% that this is not the case. Stayed here with my husband as part of a larger group between 5/8 March 2020. Room was a decent size, hanging space for clothes was rather limited. Nice to see that a full size ironing board and iron were available as was a good hairdryer. Beds ok, decent pillows but poor quality bedding. Noisy floorboards. Room was cold on arrival, however the electric heater quickly warmed it up. That said, there was no real happy medium, it was either too warm or not warm enough. Bathroom was basic, although shower was decent enough. Not exactly spotless, but nothing that warranted a complaint or request for room change. Room was "serviced" each day, however we had to ask for towels on the second morning as none had been left. then on the following day just one bath towel was left, better than none I suppose.
Food was average, couldn't say it was totally inedible, though given a choice, I would not have chosen it. Breakfast was disappointing, not enough choice of cereals and cooked offerings were not appealing. Bread was poor quality thin sliced which was even less appealing once toasted. There was brown and white bread available until our last day when there was white only. Staff were pleasant enough but seemed on occasion to be a bit under pressure. In closing I would say that as always you have to judge for yourself and eveyone's experience is different, however unfortunately I would not personally choose to stay here again.

The good things:
The WhatsApp number provided works well and the queries are quickly attended ( used the service every day as there were issues every day)
It was also good to have an iron in the room.
The location is good, next to a lovely park and not very far from the city centre.

The negative things:
Rooms are not cleaned unless you ask for it ( by leaving the provided sign on the door). I could accept that if at least bins were emptied and a quick check was done to make sure there was still toilet paper or tea/ coffee. Towels are not changed unless again you message to get new towels and you need to keep the used ones until the end of your stay ( 5 days for us).
Breakfast... what can I say? Distasteful and it is shameful for a 4* hôtel to offer these bags they call breakfast. A bagged croissant and a muffin and Concentrated orange juice? How healthy!
I don’t think I have ever been to a 4* hotel ( and I have been to many all over the world including in many developing countries) where there was no mini bar nor a wardrobe.
I booked a privilege room and haven’t seen the benefit of paying £25/ a day extra a part from a robe and slippers. WiFi was very Very slow and had to use my data only and the room was identical to all the other ones on the ground floor.
Finally I forgot some ( new) shoes in a drawer and contacted ( emailed) the hotel asking them whether they could send them to me and that I was willing to pay for postage but they never got back to me, so I guess I will never see them again!
Mercure Swansea one, NEVER again! You’ve spoilt my break.

Dear Hind Hind, I have to say I find your comments to be extremely disappointing especially as at no point have you spoken to management here about these issues. Virtually all your points relate to the way we are having to operate during the pandemic, and these restrictions would have been made clear to you on both a pre stay e mail,. and your arrival letter. Firstly we are by default not sending staff into'stay over rooms to clean unless a guest specifically requests this. and as per the letter a simple hanger on your door saying 'Please ake up my room' would have ensured that your room was serviced every day. With regard to Breakfast we have over 200 sleepers a night in every night in August and under social distancing rules we could serve no more than 30 in our restaurant, and would not be able to operate any sort of buffet. For that reason we have moved to a continental bagged breakfast delivered to your room, which consist of individually wrapped items, so as to ensure there is less change of contamination. It is not something Egon Ronay would be particularly proud of, but guest safety is the priority here, and we providing what we can safely. With regard to mini bars,I would venture that the vast majority of 4 star hotel rooms donot have mini bars nowadays, I have worked for most brands, and virtually all have removed mini bars over the past 10 years. I can only apologise for someone not getting back to you with regard to your lost shoes, personally I would have tried again and taken a name, or indeed sent an e mail about them as it may be that someone simply wrote your telephone number down wrongly that meant you did not get a call back. I will personally investigate this matter now, and will get back to you ASAP regarding your lost property. I am sorry to have to give such s fulsome reply, but we are running a 100% full hotel under very difficult conditions during pandemic, and a number of your criticisms are directly related to how we have to operate to try to keep both you and our staff safe.

I stayed here for a night and was rather disappointed by the quality of the room. The rooms are cramped and dingy. Two of the spotlights in our room did not work at all, and another was constantly flickering. The bathroom was also pokey and, more concerningly, the tile grout was going mouldy. The ventilation fan was absolutely incapable of extracting the vapour, making the bathroom very damp.

The staff were friendly and did their best to work efficiently at front desk. I did inform them of the issues in the morning and they assured me that they would inform the housekeeping team.

I've stayed in several other Mercure hotels and been satisfied with their quality and value for money, so this was a disappointing result.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the interior inside the hotel is stunning but the health club and changing rooms feel like they have been neglected.

1. The sauna is amazing!
2. The down side is the pool is small but as a positive the pool is so quiet and a nice warm temperature.
Also, around the pool was waterlogged. So, there was exercise machines and then pools of water on the floor. You had to walk through the water to go through the gym to go to the sauna.
3. You can't call the gym a gym... it is in a small room with 2 treadmills, 1 epilator, a bike, rowing machine(next to the side of the pool), chest press, incline bench, 2 dumbell bars (which you adjust yourself) and one mat. The cardio equipment was fantastic but the other equipment was worse for wear. The chain on the rowing machine is broken and when using the dumbell to bicep curl the weights began to cme away from the bar.

4. My biggest complaint though is the changing room. In the female changing rooms the only place you can get changed is in full view of the pool when the door is opened. The toilet door wouldn't lock. There is only one toilet in the changing room and one shower. The decor inside the changing room also needs updating, the wood was rotting along the door frames and there was mould along the sides of the shower tray. Also there was mats on the floor to prevent slipping on the wet floor but the floor was so wet the mats didn't help much. And there was no toilet roll and being in my bathers I couldn't walk through the hotel to reception.

Dear hannahhs225oW Thank you for your kind review. A few good point and a few negatives about my overnight stay at the Mercure.

The lady on reception was welcoming and friendly and check in was easy.

The room was clean but was so hot. The window you could only lock it in when closed and being on the ground floor I didn’t feel it was safe to to leave it open overnight as you couldn’t lock it to leave a gap for a bit of fresh air.

The fan provided was useless and it’s caps for its leg supports were missing so I was concerned the children may cut their feet on the metal ends so I had to put socks over the ends.

I didn’t get chance to to speak to staff as I had to leave earlier than planned but I wanted to let them know I think the fan is faulty as it kept cutting out while moving and didn’t not give any breeze. So please check the fan in room 125.

The continental breakfast in a bag was not good. Please put some butter and jam packs in with the croissant as it was so dry.

Would I return ?

Yes I would, if I get a fan that works and butter and jam for my croissant.

This is a truly wonderful hotel, the management and staff are so kind, professional, helpful and fun, the hotel is so clean, the rooms perfect and spotlessly clean, theres ample free parking, large garden and sitting area, a beautiful lake within a 2 minute walk, we had 3 meals and all were delicious, and at a reasonable price, the drinks are lovely, karen the assistant manager is always around for any questions and so nice and polite, the staff are all so friendly, Andrea, kelly, and everyone we met treated us with so much respect, nothing was to much for them, I was surprised to read that someone had their meal cold, as ours was hot and cooked to perfection each time, we would definitely recommend this hotel , also we had our dog and it's so well organised for this facility, obviously the dog wasnt allowed in any restaurant area and I wouldn't expect it to be, all in all we would highly recommend this hotel. Thanks to Ian ,Karen, (Managers), simon tom andrea and all the staff, plus a mention to tom and all the house keeping, see you again soon. Gary and Carol.

Booked for a couple for a one night weekend stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room as expected and facilities in line with similar. Had dinner in the restaurant, although I feel it was a little pricey the food was excellent!!

I can't belive people are bleating about parking. It's done for a reason so when you arrive it's not full of others who aren't staying there. There are pleanty of signs. If you can't see them, you shouldn't be driving there to start with.

We stayed for just 1 night for a concert at Swansea Stadium. The hotel is easy to find off the motorway & within walking distance of the stadium, reception staff were good, quick checking & they had printed off Google maps to the Stadium for the guests, which was very helpful. Room was fine, we asked for an extra chair for the room & within 10 minutes one arrived despite the hotel being full.
Breakfast the next morning was excellent, lots of variety & choices. The hotel was at maximum capacity & the restaurant team worked so hard to clear tables & seat everyone, even overflowing to the bar area. An excellent team of workers & even when items ran out on the servers, they were replenished very quickly. All this was done with smiling faces. Well done to you all, you are a credit to the company.

Yes. But I woudn't stay there. Every day my room key stopped working and I had to take it back to Reception to be re-programmed. The manager tried to blame me for having the key next to my phone, which wasn't the case and anyway there were 28 other people on my coach who had the same problem every day! Just one of the issues with this place .......
