A surprise overnight stay at the Grand Hotel by the boyfriend, before we moved on further West.. Room very comfortable and 30’s decor was a nice touch!! We ate at the bar, Barman Matt, was very diligent on bar, we asked him a few questions about the area, very informative! I Slept through the night, bed comfy and even though, weather was hot, didn’t interrupt our stay! Breakfast, enjoyable and departure was no problems!, since train station, was a stone’s throw away! Would stay again!
We booked this hotel in late 2019 (when travel was unrestricted). The hotel was forced to close due to restrictions put in place by the government and yet they refused to refund us, moved our booking multiple times (even though we couldn't make the times) and then ignored us. They have just taken our money with nothing in return. I wouldn't recommend travelling here ever.
We stayed here nearly 2 weeks ago. We had two rooms as we were away with family. We couldn’t fault our rooms. They were spacious, clean and very modern. We stayed 3 nights. We couldn’t fault this hotel. We ate there every night. Food was delicious. Bar staff were extremely friendly. Breakfast was great. They fulfilled all the requests my husband and mother in law asked for. The woman at breakfast was great. I cannot find fault with this hotel and my mother in law said it’s one of the best she’s stayed in. Highly recommend.
Excellent location, less than 20 yes from the train station. Staff very friendly and rooms clean an comfortable. If staying more than 1 night, rooms are not cleaned during your stay ( though towels are available). Breakfast was very tasty. However, it was let down by the fact that of the 5 breakfast plates served during our stay, no order was 100% correct. Some had extra items and some items missing. While overall this did not detract from the breakfast, it indicated a lack of attention to detail. That said, great hotel and would gladly use again.
The Grand is in a great location for travelling by rail as it's next door to the station. It's also a 10 min walk from the city centre. Reception was very attractive and all the staff we met were lovely and helpful. Breakfast was good and piping hot. The room was a standard double, we couldn't book anything above standard. The room was clean but it was extremely small, more suited to a single traveller. There was only one bedside cabinet, my husband had to use the windowsill to put his clock, book and medication on! The gap between the bed and wall on that side was narrow! Every time you got out of bed it was like opening night in a theatre, ie the curtains opened :)) The wardrobe had two hangers and no shelves. There was one small draw below the small desk/dressing table. The shower was extremely slow draining and again had a a small metal basket on the wall for toiletries. The room was hot and the fan supplied didn't do much to cool it down. Had we been in town longer than two days we'd have checked out and gone elsewhwhere. A great shame but it has put me off staying there again. The Grand is a three star but Premier Inn has much bigger rooms.…
