Clayton Hotel Belfast has received mixed reviews, with guests often praising its central location, making it an ideal spot for city exploration. The hotel's atmosphere is generally considered welcoming, with comfortable beds and a warm reception. However, some guests feel that the hotel does not provide good value, pointing to overpriced rooms and lackluster food quality.
While the staff garners compliments for their friendliness, inconsistencies in service have been called out. Cleanliness is satisfactory for many, but there are reports of housekeeping issues. Amenities receive mixed reactions, as the removal of the pool and room service problems have disappointed some visitors.

We recently held our first corporate event since Covid lock down in the Clayton. Courtney, Naomi, Gary and all of the events team and staff here were excellent. Courtney couldn't do enough prior to the event to ensure we had everything we needed. On the night even though the room was perfectly spaced out for social distancing the team still managed to make the room look great, all staff wore PPE and hand sanitiser was provided all around the hotel. The staff were excellent and made us feel safe and comfortable in event room. The food was delicious and everyone had a great time. Gary on the night, went out of his way to help us find another laptop to connect to the screens when our company laptops wouldn't connect to ensure we were able to stream our awards event. We are already looking at booking our next event here :)

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
When we got to the hotel the receptionist was acting weird. She said our 1 night stay was £128 when I got the deal on booking.com for £108 with breakfast included. So I don't know were she was getting the extra money from and when I said to her about it she was smiling creepy and saying to come back to her? We never did, she was creepy.
The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. They also completed my special request for a surprise balloon of the gender of our baby to see as he didn't know what gender the baby was until valentines day.
However the shower didn't work so I couldn't wash my hair.
The pool was lovely and warm although the lockers are abit of a nuisance to use but the staff who worked at the pool area were very friendly and a great help.
Me and my husband both had a peaceful sleep although my husband didn't think the bed was comfortable but I did. The black out curtains really helped me get to sleep and I couldn't hear much sound from the main road outside which was good.
The breakfast in the morning was moderate and not nice to me but my husband liked it.
Overall I don't think I would come back to stay here again as the receptionist tried to get more money out of us than what the stay was worth on booking.com and I had this pre booked for valentines day for us a month before the actual day.
The place is too pricey for what it's worth to stay there. £5 just to deliver food to your room and the food on the menu was too pricey just for normal things like pizza or sandwiches, we just ended up ordering a take away to the reception.

Dear Stephy_Auditore, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of Clayton Hotel Belfast. I'm delighted that so many aspects of your stay were so good, however I'm extremely disappointed by your feedback regarding our reception team. As you know you had requested a surprise balloon ordered to reveal the gender of your baby which you mentioned that we fulfilled perfectly. This was a special request added by you after you had made the initial reservation and you were advised that the charge would be added to your bill. This is why our receptionist advised you of the additional cost at check in, but not wanting to ruin the surprise, which you had requested, when you queried it asked you to come back later, as your partner was standing beside you! There is certainly nothing "creepy" or untoward about this, simply a member of my team trying to fulfill your request to the letter. To insinuate otherwise is simply wrong. My team are renowned for their friendliness and genuine willingness to go out of their way for their customers and I'm extremely disappointed that you failed to appreciate this and instead of thanking my team for fulfilling your instructions perfectly have chosen to attempt to castigate them online. I hope you will return to Clayton Belfast, if only to thank my team for their dedication to fulfilling guests requests, and perhaps you may consider removing this inaccurate, misleading and wrong review. Kind regards, Jonathan Topping

We arrived checkout went smoothly because we checked in online ourselves prior to arrival. We came back to the room that evening at around 11pm to go to sleep because we had a busy day planned the next day, but we got very little sleep because the Room next door were playing music extremely loudly, banging on the walls and shouting and singing all night long, we made a complaint about the noise to reception but that done absolutly nothing, if anything things got worse and they banged on the wall more, we had a connecting room and we could hear absolutly everything, this noise continued until at least 6am.
On top of this the fire alarm went off at 3am, we got ready and left the room and the alarm was just turned off after about 3 or 4 minutes.
We went to reception and asked to be moved the next day but were told it was ok now the people had left and that there had been alot of complaints, but it was fine now and we didnt even receive and apology.
.
Ordered toilet roll and towel on the website as we were instructed to because the rooms are not cleaned during your stay, this is a new covid 19 rule the toilet roll never came and we had to reorder from reception.
The Breakfast was a shambles,
Cutlery was visibly dirty.
Tables were not wiped cleaned between customers, we sat down and our table still had a mark from where the milk had been,
Waited 5 minutes for milk to arrive for our tea,
When we asked the 2nd time for milk the waitress picked it from the table next to ours and gave it to ours, no sanitisation or cleaning at all,
While Sitting at breakfast the waitress stood basically touching my chair putting an order in on the system again no social distancing observed.

Dear 340adyc. Thank you for your feedback. Please accept my apologies for any disruption during your stay caused by other guests. Your feedback on breakfast in no way reflects the normal levels of service and attention to detail and fortunately is not the experience our guests enjoy. The safety and security of our guests and staff is paramount and we do not compromise on this. We have been audited by the world leaders in safety and compliance, Bureau Veritas and received our "We're Good to Go" certification from Tourism NI in conjunction with Visit Britain and I'm confident that this is one of, if not the, safest hotels to visit and stay in Belfast. However, we're human and our staff are human so therefore we sometimes make mistakes and for this we sincerely apologise - our team are working harder and longer than ever in an increasingly uncertain industry and instead of attempting to eviscerate our team with headlines like "not Covid 19 compliant" on a forum like Tripadvisor, we would appreciate if you would simply speak to us. If we've got something wrong, then we'll fix it. Critical and constructive feedback is important and I personally appreciate it, as it allows us to identify ways to improve - but please, give it to us in person. I have duty managers, departmental managers and guest relations managers who all want to make sure you have a great time with us when you're in the building - but there's nothing I or they can do for you if you don't tell us and wait to write anonymous reviews. I hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you and I can welcome you back to the safest hotel in Belfast. Jonathan Topping

When we arrived to check in, we were greeted by a very pleasant and friendly staff member. We were given a room on the fourth floor, when we went to it and had a look we found the room small, dark and very stuffy. It also had a door as it was an adjoining room. Also the window view was of a brick wall. Having had stayed here on five previous occasions we knew exactly what the other rooms were like.
We went back to reception where we were informed they were fully booked but he would see if he had another room. He had one available on 4th floor and swapped us to it.
When we got to the second room it was much better, exactly what we had previously stayed in - bright and airy. Unfortunately the bathroom door was cracked at the top and couldn’t be fully closed unless it was given a good shove. The wired hair dryer in the room was a hazard - when turned on it made the most dreadful noise and there was a blue spark like light inside it. Not sure if the hotel are aware as they had a plug in dryer in the other drawer but in my opinion the wired hairdryer should be removed completely as it is an electrical hazard and accident waiting to happen.
As previously mentioned we have stayed here five times before including during the pandemic and we had some negative observations on this visit. Firstly the price of the breakfast used to be £10 per person to add on in the morning. It had increased to £15 pp if booked in advance or £20 pp if booked on the morning. This is excessive price inflation for the quality of the food in my opinion. The second observation was the rooms seemed dated and not maintained. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom, missing grout, dirty marks on the room walls, stained carpet and the sound on the tv was broken and crackly. The rooms would certainly benefit from a refresh. The third negative was the pool area - the jacuzzi was removed, steam room door was broken and wouldn’t close properly, floors to the changing rooms were absolutely soaking to the point they were dangerous and the general area needed a clean.
We didn’t want our room cleaned while we were out so we left a do not disturb sign on it. When we came back we had a notice from housekeeping saying that if we wanted our room cleaned at 3pm to put the sign on the door. We were relaxing in the room at 2pm the door opened and we were asked if we wanted our room cleaned (we had not put a sign outside). On our check out day we had returned to our room after breakfast when without a knock our door opened by housekeeping followed by “sorry sorry” and closed again.
Being regular visitors to Belfast we would never consider another hotel as we loved the Clayton. Unfortunately after this occasion, we will be looking into alternative accommodation for our next trip to Belfast.

This hotel is very well placed within walking distance of the city centre and yet in a quiet location. Our rooms were spotless and very comfortable. The hotel staff had many measures in place to keep all guests safe from Covid, I even saw a staff member disinfecting hand rails outside the hotel at 9 in the evening! The pool is small but perfect for a leisurely dip (you need to prebook). We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel (we chose to go to Wetherspoons across the road) but had lunch, it was tasty and good value. We could only order alcoholic drinks to bring to our room or if there was a seat available on the small terrace outside the hotel we could get served there. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. We parked in nearby multi-storey carpark at a reduced rate, this was less than a 3 minute walk from the hotel and cost £21 for 48 hours. I will certainly return to this hotel.

This is a very tired hotel. The room was big but completely inadequate with only one miserly plug socket located on the far side of the room from the bed. You could not use a mirror to dry your hair or charge a phone anywhere in vicinity of the bed. Housekeeping was poor with fresh towels just dumped on top of the toilet. Breakfast was overwhelmed with crowds of people and the (friendly) staff could not keep up with demand. The swimming pool is pleasant but the changing rooms are really showing their age. I was charged £4.50 for a cup of tea - extortionate as the staff member charging me acknowledged. All in all really not worth the money though it testifies to what they can get away with charging now Belfast is so popular.

This is going to be a mix review, to start the day we checked in and and we're advised of all the covid restrictions and advised of all the hotel had to offer. The service and greeting was really good. We went to our room and at first glance it was really good and had we got settled. When then went down for our dinner and that when the wee small things started to wrong. We sat down to our meal I had the tomato and lentil soup my wife had the same. The soup was unreal and very tasty but as my wife was eating her soup she found a shard of metal in her soup from a metal pot scrubber. We did advise the manager and he compt our drinks. This could ja e been a lot more dangerous if she hadn't of spotted it. I then had the ribeye steak M/R and the taste of the steak was unreal. The plate was loaded with needles grilled tomatoes and juice ran all o er the plate. But steak was beautifully made. We then orders dessert and my wife got hers choc fondont and I ordered the cheesecake, my wife had finished hers and I only got mine as I had to ask for it. Again the waiter couldn't apologise enough for mistake. We headed back to the room to get settled for the night and I decided to ha e shower I wasn't really looking around earlier but the mess In the bathroom wasn't great. The mirror had tooth paste splats on it and the shower curtain was very badly stained with damp and had gone yellow. I found myself not really wanting to use the shower in room and started to use the pool showers instead . The first night the room Was so hot and we couldn't use the control panel as it was busted then it stopped and the room was freezing we had to call the reception and again fair play to them the came to the room with a blow heater to help use out. The breakfast the hotel offer was so good cereal and full cooked breakfast not to be faulted and staff again were great. I don't want to really ramble on about how dirty the was but even the mattresses we filty, they had big black marks on them and looked maybe like damp could be because the the heating not really working.
The hotel it's self i can see has good standards which I can from the staff it just the cleaning of rooms was bad and wasn't really happy with it. Can't say enough about the staff because they really did try to help in every way possible

Really nice and comfortable. We stayed on a Sunday night b&b for less than €100. With a swimming pool, in the centre of the city 👍 pay parking is behind the hotel with discount for guests. The bed, pillows and duvet were very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and new.

A choir in excess of 45 people need rooms for a long weekend in Belfast and The Clayton Hotel came up trumps! Clean, tidy, well laid out, excellently situated, I could find no fault at all. We were booked B&B and the breakfast didn’t disappoint anyone in our party that I was aware of. An excellent selection of almost everything anyone could want.
There’s a pool, sauna, fitness gym as well as a pretty good bar/coffee shop all clean and efficiently run.
The rooms are spacious, clean and tidy with just one small criticism from this reviewer...... I suffer from sleep apnoea and need to use a sleep machine, so a plug socket nearer the bed would have helped but even this did not spoil my enjoyment of this lovely hotel. Room 529 as an example.
