Staff were very friendly and helpful and polite to the guests. Breakfast was nice and staff were happy to cater to the individuals needs, always checking people had enough to eat, plus that there was enough drinks for everyone. The views from the front rooms are the best and hence why the rooms are slightly more expensive. watching the sunset...

Called in here for a meal on a Saturday night. Hotel is in a lovely spot and the sunset was amazing. We loved exploring the beach across the road and climbing on the rocks. We were a family with another family and I was impressed we didn't have to wait too long for food. There was a good choice on...

Stayed for one night here during the week. The service was excellent, very friendly and helpful. I had dinner here and didn't have to wait long for my starter or main course. The quality of food was great and you have the option of eating in the bar or restaurant. The room I stayed in was beautifully furnished and had...

Expected more. Strongly don't recommend it. Waited 45 mins for a starter of soup. Then another 50 for the main to come. Food was poor. Terrible. Waste of time. Poor quality food. Never going back again. EVER.

Living in the area we like to eat out quite regularly and We had been once before with previous owners we were not really impressed, so didn't return, having found it was under new ownership we decided to give it another go. Knowing that they haven't been in long I think you need to give them a chance to find...

This is a good looking hotel with great views. The room was nice enough although the heating was not working due to a boiler problem. The staff were trying hard following a change of ownership but were not that professional. Nobody quite seemed to know what to do and the service was all a bit apologetic. The one dinner we...

What appeared to be a lovely hotel in a stunning location ... Made me cringe. Both starters, very average. Steak pie was edible but Cajun salmon was so disgusting and dry that I had to send it back. No atmosphere in the dining room and a general unease at the amount of time customers were kept waiting for food to...

Lovely room, beautiful view especially when the sun set. Meal was nice, early breakfast request was not a problem. Downside was Wifi was not working and had to have a cold shower in the morning. When I mentioned this the next day, the reason I got was that it is a log burner used to heat the water and you...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Putechan Hotel is a former Duke of Argyll’s hunting lodge dating from 1872. It lies on the western edge of Kintyre facing the dramatic Atlantic Ocean with stunning views of the Isles of Islay, Jura and Gigha, together with incredible sunsets. It is surrounded by rugged grounds with an amazing pebble beach, strewn with giant rocks for our customers to enjoy. Take a walk along the beach or perhaps a BBQ while looking out for the dolphins and minke whales. The hotel, now under new ownership, has been extensively refurbished and extended, and can now offer a variety of bedrooms to suit different tastes and pockets; from the bridal suite with roll-top window bath looking out to Jura and Islay and balcony facing the ocean, our 1st floor premier rooms with balconies, ground floor doubles with sea views and a linked disabled room. We can also offer more budget accommodation in our rear facing rooms and ‘bunk rooms’. We also have a fully refurbished and extended Venue catering for a variety of events from weddings (up to 120 seated). Attached to the south wing is the sensational ‘Rock Room’ with one whole wall formed by a massive rock with French doors to the rear and front with stunning views over the ocean. The room seats around twenty and could be used for meetings, smaller intimate weddings, yoga/fitness work-outs, business meetings, or an exhibition hall for local artists. Tell us what event you want to run and we will make sure it is one to remember. The south-facing courtyard is a natural sun-trap and looks over onto the private beach. With practically no light pollution, and clever outdoor lighting systems the Putechan enjoys fantastic stargazing on a cloudless night. ... more   less
