The Manor House, a superb Georgian House built in 1780 by the 5th Duke of Argyll, offers spectacular views over Oban Bay and the Isles of Kerrera, Lismore and Mull. Our owner run hotel with restaurant combines the manor’s understated but elegant appearance, the traditional values of Scottish hospitality and a highly personalised service. We are here to make your stay a most pleasant and memorable one! Our guesthouse combines excellent and friendly service with the charm of a listed building rich in heritage and character. The Manor House is particularly known for its beautifully restored dining room, which is open to guests every evening. Afternoons can be enjoyed on the terrace with majestic views of Oban Bay and beyond. Alternatively, you can take a stroll through the garden with its Georgian-inspired layout, keeping the spirit of a naturalistic park and pleasure ground alive. In front of the building you can find our private waterfront access and discover the old oyster bed. The open fire in the drawing room invites you to indulge in the opulence of the early years of the house whilst drinking afternoon tea accompanied by small delights. Find us in the adjoining bar, the perfect place for a wee dram to round off an unforgettable day. All our common areas face the garden and offer stunning views over Oban Bay, the adjacent islands, the mountains of Morvern and the Isle of Mull. Our period-style bedrooms are tastefully decorated, and all have ensuite facilities. Oban is easily accessible by many modes of transport. The Manor House is located on the south shore of Oban Bay in an enviable position with gardens accessing the sea and only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre, the ferry, bus and rail terminals. Despite its small size, Oban is the largest town in Argyll and The Isles and is known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ and the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland'. The most outstanding feature of Oban is McCaig’s Tower, the Colosseum-lookalike, which stands above the town overlooking the bustling fishing port. Testament to its Gaelic heritage, Oban is considered the home of the Royal National Mod, first held here in 1892, a festival of Scottish Gaelic literature, song, art and culture. Annual Highland Games, the Argyllshire Gathering, are also held in the town. The Manor House is an owner run hotel supported by a dedicated team with strong values. We are proud to be a part of its tremendous heritage and understand the importance of preserving the taste and style of this elegant Georgian house as an integral element of the experience offered. At the same time, we are committed to protecting and preserving our environment. Bowing to heritage and nature, we let this tastefully maintained and radiant manor take centre stage and aim to make it a comfort zone that fits with our commitment to sustainability, sourcing regional products and social integration in Oban, Argyll and Bute and the Western Islands. We are here for you. This is our mission. It drives us every day and is where we take our motivation from. We, the owners, have spent two and a half decades travelling and living around the globe before settling in Scotland, which we found to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Scotland's breath-taking landscapes, rich culture and heritage has worked its charm on us and will hopefully do the same to you, our guests! You are invited to contact us prior to, during and after your trip – we are only too happy to assist, and can do so in English, French or German. We value the benefits of being a local business. We aim to promote and support products and services from local sources within and beyond our business. By doing so, we work in close and trusted partnership with the finest local producers and suppliers, emphasising fairness and sustainability. Excellent quality, freshness of local produce and integrity of the source are a fundamental part of the dining experience we create. Many of our producers steeped in local tradition can be visited while you explore the area, offering rich insights into the customs of the region and bringing you to some of the most amazing places in Scotland.

Oban wasn't on our original Scotland itinerary but I'm so happy we changed and included it! The very best reason was staying at The Manor House! We were in Scotland for a month and my husband and I both agree that this was our favorite hotel of the entire trip! To begin with, we were welcomed by the fabulous David, who couldn't do enough for us. Our room was just lovely as was the entire house! The location was just superb for exploring Oban with an easy walk into town. Our dinner here on the first night was delicious. One of the nicest things that happened was meeting and getting to know some of the other guests. After our dinner we went to the lovely drawing room and enjoyed the rest of the evening with two interesting couples sitting around the fireplace. If we are lucky enough to return to Oban we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

We loved this house! We had a beautiful room with an ocean view that was just steps from the private beach. The house featured a great breakfast and even had a library for guests to read in and sip their whisky.

We stayed for four nights and loved this hotel. There was a very warm welcome, good food (generous breakfast) and a great whisky selection. The hotel has a lovely drawing room with an open fire in it to enjoy an end of evening indulgence in a dram or two (definitely ask for recommendations). The hotel itself is quiet but its location is perfect for all that the area has to offer and it is an easy, short walk into town for the ferry terminal, the Oban distillery and other restaurants etc. Thank you to Daniel, Beatrice, David and all the staff for a lovely and relaxing stay.

We were staying in a beautiful nearby B&B (Dungallan House) and were recommended coming here for dinner. There are some great restaurants in Oban, but this was exceptional. The dining room was beautiful - the food and service was outstanding.

The Manor House was a perfect gem of a hotel. It was small, in a very nice way, but absolute top quality. For example, the furniture in our room was some of the finest wood I’ve ever seen. The food was excellent. We spent about two weeks in Scotland and we all agreed that their food was the best. The staff could not have been more friendly. Special praise to Charles for his outgoing personality and Scotch recommendations. If we’re back in Oban we will most definitely stay at The Manor House.

From the moment we arrived in the Manor House, to be greeted by David, to the moment we checked out, we could not have been made any more welcome, or have felt any more at home. Every member of staff we met was friendly and efficient, and couldn't do enough for us. The owners are very hands-on, and keen to provide a great service. Every meal we had was delicious, with lovely food prepared by a very talented chef. The location of the hotel is excellent, being slightly out of town, but within easy walking distance, and the views over the bay are fabulous. There's always something happening in Oban Bay, with ferries, yachts, a lifeboat, and workboats, so we didn't weary for a moment. The town has a good selection of shops and coffee places, so wandering the town is enjoyable too. Our only regret is that we didn't discover The Manor House sooner. We'll be back.

The practical aspects are easy to list - lovely old manor house, elegant and generously sized public spaces, particularly the long dining room with windows at both ends, easy walking distance to ferry terminal and town centre, amazing sea views from bedrooms, lovely gardens and terrace overlooking the sea. What may be harder to convey is the atmosphere at the Manor House, which I imagine (from my reading!) was like staying in the superbly maintained and excellently run country house of good friends. The team - Daniel, Beatrice, David, Lorna, Gloria, Claudia, Katja (not forgetting the gardener, a credit to the establishment) - were superbly helpful in anticipating needs, and meeting them, always in an inobtrusive manner - nice things just seemed to happen! I could go on.... As our stay was at the end of October, we particularly valued tea in the afternoons in the drawing room, warmed by the log fire, and the breakfasts were stupendous. Flexibility seemed a keynote at the Manor House, ensuring that everyone was well looked after, and their individual tastes remembered and respected. We went to Oban for the scenery, the boat trips and the West Highland Line train journey; we will return as soon as we can, just to have the privilege of staying at the Manor House. Yes, it was our first break after Covid and other challenges, but in the past we have stayed in many different hotels in all parts of these islands, in France, in Italy, in Spain, in Greece in Israel, in India - Manor House beats them all.

Either first or second on our long list of favorite accommodations in Scotland. Attentive friendly knowledgeable hosts who can’t do enough for you. Fireplace burning wood in the lounge. A very Scottish and well stocked bar. Comfortable rooms with great views of the bay. Easy to get inexpensive taxis to town which is very close, but road did not seem very pedestrian friendly.

The staff does a really good job, the place is full of character and comfortable, however beds are small but probably to keep warm in the winter :-) The bar is inviting with a good selection of spirits and insightful advices from the bartender. Excellent location : bay view and at walking distance from the haven where things happen (restaurants, bars, shops..)
