Oban wasn't on our original Scotland itinerary but I'm so happy we changed and included it! The very best reason was staying at The Manor House! We were in Scotland for a month and my husband and I both agree that this was our favorite hotel of the entire trip! To begin with, we were welcomed by the fabulous David, who couldn't do enough for us. Our room was just lovely as was the entire house! The location was just superb for exploring Oban with an easy walk into town. Our dinner here on the first night was delicious. One of the nicest things that happened was meeting and getting to know some of the other guests. After our dinner we went to the lovely drawing room and enjoyed the rest of the evening with two interesting couples sitting around the fireplace. If we are lucky enough to return to Oban we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!…
We loved this house! We had a beautiful room with an ocean view that was just steps from the private beach. The house featured a great breakfast and even had a library for guests to read in and sip their whisky.
We stayed for four nights and loved this hotel. There was a very warm welcome, good food (generous breakfast) and a great whisky selection. The hotel has a lovely drawing room with an open fire in it to enjoy an end of evening indulgence in a dram or two (definitely ask for recommendations). The hotel itself is quiet but its location is perfect for all that the area has to offer and it is an easy, short walk into town for the ferry terminal, the Oban distillery and other restaurants etc. Thank you to Daniel, Beatrice, David and all the staff for a lovely and relaxing stay.
We were staying in a beautiful nearby B&B (Dungallan House) and were recommended coming here for dinner. There are some great restaurants in Oban, but this was exceptional. The dining room was beautiful - the food and service was outstanding.
The Manor House was a perfect gem of a hotel. It was small, in a very nice way, but absolute top quality. For example, the furniture in our room was some of the finest wood I’ve ever seen. The food was excellent. We spent about two weeks in Scotland and we all agreed that their food was the best. The staff could not have been more friendly. Special praise to Charles for his outgoing personality and Scotch recommendations. If we’re back in Oban we will most definitely stay at The Manor House.
From the moment we arrived in the Manor House, to be greeted by David, to the moment we checked out, we could not have been made any more welcome, or have felt any more at home. Every member of staff we met was friendly and efficient, and couldn't do enough for us. The owners are very hands-on, and keen to provide a great service. Every meal we had was delicious, with lovely food prepared by a very talented chef. The location of the hotel is excellent, being slightly out of town, but within easy walking distance, and the views over the bay are fabulous. There's always something happening in Oban Bay, with ferries, yachts, a lifeboat, and workboats, so we didn't weary for a moment. The town has a good selection of shops and coffee places, so wandering the town is enjoyable too. Our only regret is that we didn't discover The Manor House sooner. We'll be back.…
The practical aspects are easy to list - lovely old manor house, elegant and generously sized public spaces, particularly the long dining room with windows at both ends, easy walking distance to ferry terminal and town centre, amazing sea views from bedrooms, lovely gardens and terrace overlooking the sea. What may be harder to convey is the atmosphere at the Manor House, which I imagine (from my reading!) was like staying in the superbly maintained and excellently run country house of good friends. The team - Daniel, Beatrice, David, Lorna, Gloria, Claudia, Katja (not forgetting the gardener, a credit to the establishment) - were superbly helpful in anticipating needs, and meeting them, always in an inobtrusive manner - nice things just seemed to happen! I could go on.... As our stay was at the end of October, we particularly valued tea in the afternoons in the drawing room, warmed by the log fire, and the breakfasts were stupendous. Flexibility seemed a keynote at the Manor House, ensuring that everyone was well looked after, and their individual tastes remembered and respected. We went to Oban for the scenery, the boat trips and the West Highland Line train journey; we will return as soon as we can, just to have the privilege of staying at the Manor House. Yes, it was our first break after Covid and other challenges, but in the past we have stayed in many different hotels in all parts of these islands, in France, in Italy, in Spain, in Greece in Israel, in India - Manor House beats them all.…
We were lucky enough to be invited to a family big birthday celebration meal at The Manor House ,the meal was exceptional ,very very tasty ,staff were very friendly and efficient, wouldn’t hesitate to return!
Either first or second on our long list of favorite accommodations in Scotland. Attentive friendly knowledgeable hosts who can’t do enough for you. Fireplace burning wood in the lounge. A very Scottish and well stocked bar. Comfortable rooms with great views of the bay. Easy to get inexpensive taxis to town which is very close, but road did not seem very pedestrian friendly.
The staff does a really good job, the place is full of character and comfortable, however beds are small but probably to keep warm in the winter :-) The bar is inviting with a good selection of spirits and insightful advices from the bartender. Excellent location : bay view and at walking distance from the haven where things happen (restaurants, bars, shops..)
