Cosy hotel in the center of Oban. The room was clean and well heated, which was well appreciated in winter. Breakfast was tasty with a few choices of pastries and cooked food. I recommend it for anyone looking for a nice room for a good price. Staff was nice and friendly.
Excellent hotel, centrally located in Oban close to the railway station and ferry terminal. Very clean and modern. Staff were helpful throughout. Room was spacious including a well fitted bathroom and good quality fittings. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits; a large flat screen smart TV and easy to connect WiFi. Breakfast was very good with a good selection of high quality produce.
Fantastic place to stay, we booked via ITISON for one night only. Friendly reception staff, quick check in, clean and modern rooms, would definitely return to stay there again and would recommend to everyone! We really enjoyed our stay!
A late booking via Expedia and wasn’t that familiar with area. On arriving check in was quick, painless and young girl on reception was really pleasant. Facilities are good and room was spotless clean, bed was super comfortable, nice sized TV, good Wi-Fi and absolutely outstanding shower. For my purposes all boxes ticked for a very pleasant overnight stay whilst away from the family on a business trip. Will definitely return and recommend to my friends….not too many though as want to get booked in next time also. Only complaint was arriving after dark so had to get the tripod out for the camera.
Room was up 3 flights of stairs. Window did not close properly and as result street noise kept me awake the whole night. Bathroom operated with sensors and lights would go out when showering (no windows in bathroom). The overall experience was very bad
We stayed for 2 nights with friends. Hotel was lovely, clean, well situated for Oban centre. Staff were friendly, helpful and always cheery. Rooms were clean and a good size. Hotel is over 3 floors with no lift, so if you cannot manage stairs this is not the Hotel for you. Breakfast was basic and not really to our liking. We parked in Tesco carpark overnight which was a 2 minute walk to the hotel. If returning to Oban I would not hesitate to return to the Ranald Hotel but miss out the breakfast. All in all we enjoyed our stay.
Visited in August 2021 and again in early 2022. The room was nice but the heating system needs to be looked at. In August 2021 I asked a staff member at reception why the room temperature monitor wasn't working according to the instructions for customers on a notice above the monitor. The male night receptionist insisted he show me how it works. I could read the sign clearly, this was not the problem. He was unable to resolve it and also looked at the radiator itself (which the notice says customers are not to tamper with.) They assured me they would have the heating system in the room looked into. By chance I had the same room at my next stay earlier in 2022 and was hugely disappointed to find the heating had not been fixed and I could not turn the heating down at all. Unfortunately this ruined both experiences at the hotel.…
We stayed here one night as a family, which includes two young kids. The room was made up perfectly with the couch already pulled out and made up. The hotel is tucked into a semi quiet street and was perfect for getting a good night's sleep. The beds were super comfortable. You do need to park on the street, which can be an issue if you don't find a good spot. You also do need to be aware of the time to pay for parking, as they do start marking cars right at the start of the morning. I believe it is 8:30. Everyone was already up for breakfast, which was delicious, so it wasn't a big deal at all for our family. We also found a spot right in front of the hotel. There is no lift, like others mentioned. But again, this wasn't an issue for us as we have no physical issues. The hotel is located in a perfect location for walking around the town. So, once we found a spot in front, we had no issue just leaving our car and walking around. Overall, the minor inconveniences were just that for us; minor. While, it might be more of an issue for others, it wasn't for us. It was a perfect night's stay for us and if we found ourselves in Oban again, we would definitely stay here.…
The hotel is nearby the pier and city centre. It is a small hotel, but the staff was very friendly and the room (family room) spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was limited, but possible to order a la carte. We loved the small artistic paintings on the walls in the hotel and in the room. The view was not so nice (we looked into a mountain wall), but we stayed for only 1 night and paid no attention to the view. My daughter also loved the candies in the reception. :) The only downside was that there was no elevator and no one to help with the luggage, so we had to carry everything up the stairs. Also, we had to pay for parking on the street 200 metres away from the hotel, but it was not very expensive. Value for money all in all.
Stayed here for 2 nights before and after our ferry to the Islands. Very handy for the port and train station, and all amenities (restaurants etc) right on the doorstep. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very clean, shower pressure excellent, good WiFi, lovely breakfast - would recommend the pancakes. One down side was the lack of a lift, not an issue for us, but you could request a ground floor room
