I'm sad to write this review as this has been a family favourite in the past. The bar and reception rooms are beautiful however the restaurant food was poor pub food at restaurant prices. Large family meal with many courses ordered only 2 were happy with their meals. We didn't want to complain as this would have tarnished the celebration.... More

A very imposing looking castle nestled away along a quiet street. Staff greeted us in a cheery manner and this service continued throughout the evening whilst serving us. The evening menu gave plenty of choice however this did not detract from the quality which we found to be very good with excellent prices. The decor may be a bit dated... More

Food was very good, room, room was beautiful with an amazing view across the Tweed towards Abbotsford. Few public areas could do with a refresh but the service, setting and food make up for it, would definitely stay again

I have just returned from my third stay in this beautiful country hotel. the location was magnificent and the ambiance inside the hotel is totally in keeping with this former country home. I love the decorations and furnishings many of which are original features -not faded grandeur -the real thing. The staff, many who have been there for over 20years,... More

We stayed in this hotel for a wedding. The room we had was exceptionally small and definitely not worth £110 per night. The room was very dated and needed to be updated. The same could be said for the whole hotel. The owners are definitely missing a trick here as this hotel has real potential as the grounds are lovely... More

We stayed for a one night break whilst visiting family in the area. The hotel is a grand and impressive building. Inside, as many other reviewers have commented, the decor is tired and seriously in need of a lick of paint. Our room (23) was very spacious and perfectly comfortable. We ate in the bar during the evening and the... More

I stayed in room 22 (£79 for B & B) for a business trip in Galashiels and arrived to a warm welcome at reception. However I was advised that WiFi wasn't available in my room as it was "too high up" - not ideal! The exterior and the main entrance area of the hotel are impressive architecturally but go beyond... This is the second time recently we have had a bar meal in this hotel. I do not know what on earth is going on but waited an hour to be served one starter,as they had forgotten about us. We then went on to wait a considerable length of time for our main course. When I complained the waitress said... More

10 of us stayed here in October. The hotel is a grand building with bags of character. The grounds are very well kept with lots of parking. Our room looked over the rear of the hotel and was large with a very comfy bed. The only 1 negative thing I'd say is the young barmaid on the night was a... More

This former home of a textile baron is constructed in the Scottish Baronial style popularised by Sir Walter Scott and, in fact, sits just across the river from Scott’s home at Abbotsford. The building is impressive, inside and out, and one can only wonder at the cost of construction, especially if converted into today's prices: astronomical, certainly! Once, this lovely,... More
