Travellers' Choice

The Mansfield House Hotel has now been awarded 4 stars from the Scottish Tourist Board.

The Mansfield House Hotel is situated in approximately 10 acres of established grounds on the outskirts of Hawick, the largest of the Border towns famous for the Common Riding, rugby and knitwear. The house was originally the private home of the Oliver family built in 1870. These entrepreneurs of the new industrial age tastefully influenced the many distinctive architectural features, from the thistle and rose ceilings in the lounge and reception areas, to the Russian pine shutters, skirting and doors throughout the main house. The hotel is family run by Lynn Evans and Stephen Murray who also have the sister hotel elm house hotel in Hawick. We are dog friendly we have wood land walks around hotel were you can watch roe deer some times badgers and foxes .we cater for large bus party for meal or stop over for the night with good rates. we also cater for weddings and functions up too 200 .

We had a lovely visit here, for one night. The staff are very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. The hotel itself is full of character, with a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, and spectacular views from its elevated location. We stayed in a double room which was very comfortable. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both of which were of high quality—delicious cuisine (with a wide range of dishes to choose from) and faultless service.

We arrived at 12.30 in the afternoon and as we had been told in advance the hotel was not open. The lights were on and there were cars parked in the car park but we could not get anyone to answer the door to allow us to use a toilet. We came back at 4.00pm and checked in and were given a key for a side door for future use, although this was an experience in itself. The key goes into a lock on a right hand door and once turned releases the left hand door! It was a bit Kripton factor but after a few tries we eventually worked it out. The reception person was friendly and helpful (as we later found out so too were all the other staff), the room was airy and bright and very well presented. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice of main dishes and cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc all set out. We paid £120 for B&B and we would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I booked into the Mansfield following a recommendation from a lovely local lady a couple of weeks ago. We were cycling the Great North Trail and as we were bike-packing and the weather had been awful, decided to have a break from camping! What a treat it was. Even though we didn’t get there until 7p.m., Lynne and her team could not do enough for us, securely storing our bikes, and giving us a beautiful, clean room, even though we were looking rather disheveled. The food was excellent - the best steaks we have had in a long time and cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and keen to please. A lovely, not stuffy, place to stay with fantastic staff and food. Great value too. Thank you for an enjoyable one night’s stay. I would definitely recommend and love to stay there again.

Had a 2 night stay. Booked through Booking.com app as was £20 cheaper than booking directly. We paid £220 for 2 nights. Both myself and my partner were told seperately on the telephone that they only had a superior room left and that this is what we were booked into. We were quite happy to push the boat out a little as it was a birthday treat. When I informed them we would have a small dog with us, we were told this was not a problem, as it's a dog friendly hotel as advertised. Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and couldn't be faulted. When we were lead through a maze of corridors however my suspicions as to where we were heading were that we were not going to a superior room. The room was very small with oversized furniture and barely enough room to place our dogs bed on the floor. We kept tripping or banging into things. The view from the window was of a ? garage roof. The window had to be wedged open with one of our shoes. I can only assume we were placed in this room because we had a dog. We unfortunately didn't complain or question this at the time as were just to tired and we due to go out for dinner and also didn't want to create a bad atmosphere. The staff were very helpful allowing us to have the dog in a seperate area at breakfast time. I did question the fact that we were meant to be in a superior room when we checked-out. I was told no, I had paid the rate of a standard room. I then informed them that 2 seperate telephone calls had happened where we were told we were in a superior room. I was made to feel I was at fault and they denied their mistake. No apology or recompense was attempted and we left feeling very disappointed. The actual room looked nothing like the photos avoid room number 8 if booking. The photo is where our room looked out onto.
