Had a great stay for 3 nights. Great location, great everything. The hotel was clean, WiFi good, USB sockets useful and a decent TV. If only the food was a bit better, but in particular the sausages! Would pay for more breakfast just to get better quality food.

It was a comfort stay and the places of interest was accessible from here. The things that surprised us was that the attendance at the info desk did not much on the cost of parking per half an hour and the estimated rate for taxi shuttle to Waverly station, we have to go ask around. Anyway it was a good...

Very clean, comfortable beds, friendly staff and an excellent breakfast. Love that you can choose the softness of your pillow and they provide you with any toiletries you may have forgotten. Would definitely recommend to all my friends.

I booked this hotel sometime ago, due to there being a few of us, it came up at the cheapest for the weekend. On arrival, I was offered my bill, £335 more than I booked it for, so obviously I questioned it. I had booked for 5 adults in 2 rooms, they had my booking as 4 adults and 2...

The staff were excellent on our arrival, we were early but were able to check into our rooms before the allotted time. Rooms were spacious and clean and very comfortable beds. Air con was a bit noisy but nothing to worry about as it worked well. The only downside was a very limited breakfast choice on the hot food, only...

Hotel was ok and very clean. The staff at the reception were very helpful when I realised I had left my toothbrush at home. The cooked breakfast was average at best. If you like rubbery scrambled eggs and sausages which could turn the most carnivorous of us vegetarian then this is the place for you. However in saying this I...

Dear Drew R, Thank you for staying with us and giving your feedback. Sorry to hear you found the eggs rubbery as the team make them fresh every morning with real eggs, milk and butter. The breakfast is free and included for all guests if they choose to have, we are following Holiday express standards but they are testing new...

Booked a double room with sofa. Walked into a twin room. Receptionist blamed booking dot com and gave us a double. Still no sofa. Room was comfortable enough but woefully small. Breakfast however... That is another story... the tiny room cannot cope with the crowds for sure. Lengthy holdups while people prepared their own toast and generally dithered around in...

Hotel was fine, clean and the service was good. Breakfast was limited and so was the space where the buffet was located. However in saying this I would still return but probably would book breakfast. Location was good, short uphill walk to the castle!

The hotel was certainly well located for our long weekend in Edinburgh. The royal mile is directly up a case (alley) from the hotel. Breakfast wasn't particularly good. The a/c unit in our room was particularly noisy.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
