We spent the weekend at Ramsay's when attending a gig at Murryafield and were delighted with our choice! It's located in a great part of the city, with trendy bars and restaurants very close by and is only 10 mins walk to Princes Street. The B&B itself is modern 'Boutique' style with very nice rooms and bathrooms. A great breakfast...

Just had one night at Ramsay's 25 East London St. & two nights in their Royal Mile apartment. Welcome was fantastic, room excellent. Royal Mile appartment has amazing location, its on first floor windows looks out onto Royal Mile, so you get all the atmosphere and private birds eye view. Two fringe stages in view so you can watch continuously...

Superb in every way--attractive, clean, comfortable, wonderful breakfasts with lots of variety possible, the most delightful and helpful hosts one could ask for, generous variety of things for tea, coffee, and cocoa making in the room (along with delicious Walker's biscuits),a terrific location near the center of town but not quite in it (about 5-10 minutes walk at most) and...

Our two nights with the Ramsay's were terrific, and it was a great way to start our exploration of Scotland. Of all the guest houses we frequented on our ten-day trip, this was probably our favorite. The B&B is well situated near attractions and good restaurants, but tucked onto a quiet street in New Town. Our hosts Sharon and Norrie...

The only words to say about Ramsey's are positive ones. We were made so welcome from the minute we arrived until we left two nights later, which went far too quickly! Sharon and Norrie are great and go out of their way to help you make the most of the gorgeous city they are lucky to call home. The breakfasts...

Spectacular hosts - so welcoming and helpful. Sharon and Norrie are Edinburgh born and bred and eager to make sure you get the most out of your stay. The rooms are very classy, very good value for money with all the necessary conveniences. I would happily have paid £140 for our £100 room. The location is perfect. Ramsay's is surrounded...

We stayed at ramsay B&B at Edinburgh Scotland. The rates were a tad on the higher side (160 pounds for three), and the room was located in the basement, the rooms were extremely well maintained, well furnished and the break fast was teuly outstanding much better than what you find in starred hotel. The owners were quite friendly and the...

This B & B is located in Edinburgh New Town, a section of the city that dates from the late 1700s but is new compared with Edinburgh Old Town. About a 10 minute walk from the rail station, Ramsay’s is situated on quiet East London Street just around the corner from Broughton Street and a fine selection of restaurants. We...

I stayed at Ramsay's with my family, while visiting Edinburgh on a short trip. Overall, this is a first-class B&B that provides excellent hospitality in a convenient location. Ramsay's is very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean (I don't recall a cleaner B&B that I have visited thus far). We stayed at the triple room, which was spacious and fully equipped...

Our stay at Ramsay's was wonderful. The property has clearly been sensitively restored to a high standard and could'nt be faulted. I'm in the building trade so I'd know. Sharon and Norrie are great hosts, who made us feel instantly at home. We were able to park 100m away for free over the weekend. The location is ideal, close to...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
