This hotel is in a great location, about a ten minute walk from Waverley Station with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. You actually go downstairs from the main reception to bedrooms and they are quite dark due to the high buildings behind the hotel. Room was comfortable with a lovely shower room. It has a small safe and a fridge. Sadly the fridge wasn't cold and didn't have a control to turn it up!
On the second night I had a terrible sleep due to a flashing light in the corridor. I hope this is soon fixed!
Staff were lovely on reception. My booking request on the website for a feather free room due to an allergy hadn't been acknowledged and phoning the hotel prior to arrival gained no response! Magolie brought me foam pillows as soon as I raised it.
Rooms are not being cleaned during stays so you have to request anything you need.
Breakfast was ok but at £10 per person, you'd probably get more choice at a local cafe. Again, great staff. Everything is in plastic bags - not great for the environment but due to Covid restrictions, food can't be left out. A lovely waiter whose badge we couldn't read ( French and really friendly and helpful) sorted us out with breakfast on day two when we were late. Breakfast finishes at 9am which seems early for a hotel in a tourist city.

We arrived at the Courtyard on the 11th of September for a 3-night stay. Checkin was quick and efficient with the young lady who checked us in being very pleasant & polite (Be aware that even though we had paid in advance a £30 per night charge is made to your credit or debit card)

Our room was situated at the rear of the hotel and only had a view of an old house and a new office block situated behind the hotel, however, it was a decent size room and was spotlessly clean with robes, slippers and safe all included.

Because I had booked the room as an anniversary trip away and had asked the hotel to provide a bottle of white wine it was really nice to find not only the chilled bottle of wine in the room but also a card wishing us a happy anniversary and a complimentary box of Edinburgh rock.

Breakfast is taken downstairs and given the current Covid 19 restrictions everything was o.k the hot breakfast is ordered and served to your table with bread and pastries individually wrapped.

The hotel is well placed for sightseeing and the staff do everything they can to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We would have no hesitation in staying here again.

As a Marriott Gold Elite member we have stayed in our fair share of Marriotts and I have never seen such an abysmal breakfast situation. Covid has undoubtedly given hotels a headache restaurant wise, but blimey this was badly organised and under staffed!

After the initial 25 minute (non socially distanced) queue to actually get into breakfast, it was pot luck whether you were seated at an appropriately distanced table (couples at tables 1 & 2 were seated less than 1m & directly facing each other as this is breakfast bar style seating) - personally we declined this and waited longer for a proper table which were appropriately distanced.

For some reason the additional side room which would have reduced queues and enable better distancing was closed for a few days. It was good to see self-serve foods individually wrapped. Cooked breakfast is done to order, on one morning this came fairly quickly but the other mornings we waited a good half an hour and the scrabbled eggs certainly weren’t edible. Overall, unless you have at least an hour for poor-very average breakfast I would recommend going out.

Breakfast aside, The Marriott Courtyard, is in a great location for exploring the city and was a great price for our 4 night stay. The room, bathroom etc were clean and comfortable. The room was also very quiet at night. Reception staff were friendly. Rooms are not being serviced at the current time which was fine with us and fresh towels were brought immediately when requested.

Parking is in the Omni Qparks a few minutes walk away and costs £10 per night when stamped at the hotel.

I am a fan of Courtyard Marriotts and have stayed at many. This one was the most disappointing. The staff appear to think this is a budget hotel and run it accordingly. Dirty towels, stained bedsheet, the mini fridge was not working, the TV stopped working after a day etc. The small touches were missing too with no bathroom slippers, no work table and chair, paper thin walls, and so on. Housekeeping was restricted to service every 3 days which I can live with but then they only provided supplies for a day, which was quite inconvenient.

The property appears to have furloughed or laid off most of their staff and now can't seem to cope with the reopening. When I needed toilet paper I was asked to go down and collect it from the front desk, leading to the incongruous sight of me walking down the hotel corridors with a toilet roll in each hand. After this happened a couple of times, I stopped asking for supplies and went off to Boots to pick some up.

Frankly the only positive aspect (and it is a big plus point) is the location, which really is incredibly ideal whether you want to spend time in Old Town, New Town, Grassmarket, or George Street. The hotel is also within walking distance of bus pick up points for a number of day tours. And best of all, the tram to the airport stops very close to the hotel. If you need supplies, there is a Tesco that stays open late across the road. There are also a couple of breakfast / brunch cafes right outside the hotel which means getting breakfast at the hotel is not necessary.

We stayed here for two nights in a standard double. The room was large, light and fresh with tea, coffee and toiletries available in the room along with a hairdryer, iron and ironing board which was handy. The bed was large and very comfortable. The bathroom had a large walk in shower and was modern. The hotel is located a short distance from the royal mile so a good location for exploring the main tourist sites of Edinburgh. We arrived early and the hotel happily stored our bags for us. We ate dinner in the hotel on the first night and the food was very nice. The only problem with this hotel is there is no parking and it is very difficult to stop outside the hotel to unload luggage. There is a small loading bay out the front of the hotel but this seemed to have cars parked in all the time we were there. Guests must use the multi-storey car park just up the road from the hotel which is too far if you have suit cases. Also guests are supposed to get a discounted parking rate of £10 a day. You have to get your ticket validated at the hotel reception but be warned as we were still charged full price at the car park and the hotel were disinterested in sorting this problem and told us to call the parking company.

Dear UkDev, thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience. We are pleased to see overall you did enjoy your stay and our city centre location. It is disappointing to read the parking arrangements were not what you expected. We are very lucky to have the option of offering discount at the Q Park to our guests otherwise the parking is very limited in our neighbourhood. Once we apply discount to the parking ticket at reception it is out of our hands and we need to direct the guests to the parking attendants who can reduce the price manually on the spot. I am sorry this was not the case here. Once again, we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We also recognize these are unusual times and we thank you for choosing to stay with us. Kind Regards Gosia

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in August. When we arrived, the check in was smooth. We arrived in our room to a very strong smell of disinfectant which we thought was a good sign as obviously been cleaned.

The floor to the right side of the bed was wet with the smell of disinfectant. The cleaner then entered our room - obviously to check on the room. On our second evening at the hotel, the smell of disinfectant turned to the strong smell of sick where the disinfectant was!

We got ready to go out and went to reception to let them know about the smell and he advised that we can’t upgrade you as there’s no rooms available, We didn’t want an upgrade, we wanted rid of the smell so we asked for air freshener and he said housekeeping had left for the day. We again asked for air freshener and he advised he couldn’t supply this to us.

We went out for the evening with no resolution. We returned to an even stronger smell of sick so we used deodorant to try to mask the smell and had to sleep with the window open all night.

In the current climate and pandemic, this room should not have been occupied by anyone!

The breakfast was not worth the extra, they got the order wrong in the first morning and was not of good quality. The second morning we didn’t bother.

Not an overall good experience at the Marriott.

Having stayed here last December and been very impressed with the location, staff and room cleanliness, we didn't even shop around this time around. The hotel was reasonably priced and offers £10 parking for 24 hours which was great due to current issues with train services. The check in staff were lovely and room very clean. Even received a little birthday card and chocolate bar for my birthday.
The organisation of breakfast let the hotel down this time around. We turned up at 9.30 (an hour before breakfast ends) and had to queue for around 15-20 mins for a table. The table given was right next to the large queue and felt small and cramped. We were most surprised that a buffet style was on offer, which meant people moving around the restaurant and touching surfaces such as the coffee machines. Although there was a sign asking guests to wipe down after use, this wasn't at all practical since there were no trays and our hands were already full trying to balance everything with a queue behind us. Tea and coffee could really be served to the table. The cooked breakfast arrived with the incorrect items 3 times before it was correct (server very polite and apologetic) but we were in the middle of our cereal at this point and the table was so small we had to simply abandon the cereal to make room for the cooked breakfast plates. We felt a booking slot for breakfast would have been more appropriate and definitely table service, not a buffet with multi-touch points.
All in all I would stay again and recommend this as a great base, but give breakfast a miss and go find somewhere in the city.

Typical Marriott standard with great facilities, clean modern rooms, and friendly staff. The bedroom was a little smaller than expected, and the area for working on a laptop was prohibitively small, but overall the room was modern and clean. The bathroom was immaculate although I should have checked my booking more carefully as there was no bath! The view from the window wasn't great as it overlooked other rooms in the opposite block.
The breakfast was well cooked and tasty. The hotel does not have it's own car park but a worthwhile discount is offered if parking in the Omni Car park just a five minute walk away.
I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

after having booked a last minute standard king room, as a Marriott gold member, I asked for a room upgrade at check if any available and was told one was available but was told would be 10 minutes or so to get ready. I waited those 10 minutes and was provided the key on arrival at the room I was a little bit disappointed to note that the room itself was not much of an upgrade and actually seamed liked a standard king room with a horrible view of a bunch of trees on a hill, parked cars, a house and some scaffolding. I called to clarify this so called upgrade and was told that the room was actually an upgrade as it had upgraded enhanced  bathroom amenities and also  a dressing gown! I am a bit taken aback by this, what I would expect to be standard amenities in Marriott’s across the world your hotel considers an upgrade! I have had the luck of staying in a number of Marriott and Hilton’s across the world and It’s the first time a hotel has told me that a dressing gown and a bathroom amenities was what they considered an upgrade. These amenities are what I would consider as standard in most category 5 Marriot’s.

In the future maybe staff checking people in need to be clear about what upgrades if any they have and what those may entail , had I known this upgrade was merely a dressing gown and a bunch of soap then I would not waited 10 minutes for the room and would have just accepted a standard room after all I am actually in a standard room the only difference is extra soap and a gown. I am also of the opinion that your hotel may need to stop selling the idea that a dressing gown and a bunch soap actually constitute an enhancement. I have been in a few of Marriott’s Moxy Airport hotels which are a much lower category hotel that the Courtyard Edinburgh yet these hotels have never sold me the idea that soap or dressing gown was an enhancement as such, I am not sure why this hotel would think this flys especially when it’s a category 5 hotel. If it was a much lower category hotel then I might at a push understand. Sad to say in the future, I will not be back, initially I was torn between this Marriott and the ‘Edinburgh Marriott’ outside the city, next time will be staying at the Marriott outside the city centre.

This hotel is fine. Wouldn’t particularly recommend or say there is anything special about it other than location. The location is good as is the handy parking close by. The staff were also helpful and the room was ok (felt clean but some stains on the carpet as mentioned by other reviews).

A few points to be aware of - the hotel is basic e.g. don’t expect bottled water / biscuits in the room just standard tea and coffee sachets. We were informed this is because they sell them in the ‘market place’ in reception.

The breakfast was shocking and we spoke to the hotel directly. If you are concerned about COVID I would recommend avoiding. This is because there was a large queue which is to be expected for a weekend but it was not socially distanced / managed and most of the queue were not wearing masks. The hot food was table service (mine was forgotten so we were there for over an hour), cold pastries were bagged but the coffee machine / drinks were still help yourself and so people were just wondering round touching everything. We could see the staff were really trying to clean the tables / get people seated but management definitely needs to have a think about how to deal with the breakfast rush (bookings etc). Even though we paid for breakfast for two days we skipped the stress on the second day and bought food from the Tesco across the road!

The hotel did give us a free drinks voucher to use to apologise but we didn’t use it. The staff were all helpful so hopefully just a management/ organisation issue which could address the points above.
