My husband and I went to Edinburgh for a few days away. The staff on arrival were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast were of a high quality. I would highly recommend this hotel. Only thing I regret was I forgot my complimentary Apex duck to add to my collection 😊.

Spent 3 nights at the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel in Edinburgh as a special break for my wife's birthday. The hotel is well positioned, only two minutes walk from the main Waverley train station, and just a few hundred yards from the bottom of Princes Street. Everything of interest in Edinburgh itself is within walking distance. I booked directly with...

This is the third time I have stayed here and it never disappoints. Friendly staff, nice rooms and gorgeous breakfast. Would highly recommend. And if you have a treatment ask for Gemma - she is amazing!

We visited as a last-minute break away and found the perfect spot. The hotel is a stones throw away from the train station which is very convenient. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were sizeable, clean and have the biggest beds I have ever stayed in. The bathroom had a separate shower and bath which...

Decided to try a different Apex hotel and chose here instead of the other three in the city. Location is great. 3 minutes walking to train station if you are on Waterloo Place and thus Princes Street or from level 0 then it is literally one minute to there and a couple of minutes to the Omni Centre and Playhouse....

We stayed for 4 nights while in Edinburgh to get married, and have a lovely stay. Staff are very professional yet friendly, and the servers in the restaurant for breakfast are especially polished. Though the exterior of the property has a period appearance, inside everything is very modern and stylish. Our deluxe room was spacious for a city centre hotel,...

My daughter and I stayed for an overnight. We were upgraded to superior room which was lovely. The spa and pool tho small was adequate. We dined in restaurant Elliot's which was fab. Customer service overall was faultless. I would not hesitate in returning to this hotel, location was also excellent.

Stayed at this Apex for two nights. It has a great central location. Parking is available outside the hotel on a pay per hour meter or park down the hill a bit for free. Rooms are spacious and clean. They are very well maintained. Staff are delightful and warm. Nothing too much hassle for them. Will be back next year.

Convenient location - very close to the rail station, and the night life district. Great staff - very friendly (including the restaurant). Cool room - I stayed at the Deluxe Double: spacious, comfi, quite, good views, a great bathroom, a working coffee machine and complementary snacks. Fine restaurant - awesome food and service (the seats are not very comfi though)....

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
