This was our second visit to this hotel and we spent 2 nights. Room was spotless, all staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. Had lovely cocktails in the bar. Didn't use leisure facilities but maybe next time because we will definitely return.

OK. Juhst OK. Soulless.. But that's expected for a chain in big cities. My room was very noisy with squalls of weather whistling round, sudden bursts, didn't notice until bedtime. Breakfast so-so. Staff in restaurant friendly.

This is what we in Lancashire call a "posh" hotel. It is modern on the interior with high quality fixtures and fittings. Very comfortable room and one of the most comfortable beds Mrs T and I can recall. Most unusually for a hotel - everything worked. Very clean, well lit and equipped room on the 10th floor and very quiet...

We had booked a superior room but were shown to a very small room on arrival. After I complained, we were reallocated to a corner room but this was not great either but I couldn't be bothered complaining again. We had stayed previously in the hotel in a double room which was much nicer and bigger so we had expected...

We travelled to Edinburgh to celebrate our friends birthday and to go to the Wales v Scotland six nations match at Murrayfield. The hotel very kindly allowed us to leave our bags as we arrived really early and when we came back from the rugby our rooms were all ready - in fact our friends rooms was decorated with banners...

I only stayed one night at the Apex on a business trip so didn't have the opportunity to try out all facilities. Location was great for me as I arrived by train and the hotel is literally 5 minutes from Edinburgh Waverley Station. It is also conveniently located for the theatre and local bars. I was greeted by very friendly...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
