We stayed 2 nights and were very pleased with our large open room and bathroom. Hotel is in a great location (5 mins walk from castle etc) and has a lovely bar area, although late night service was very slow one night. Slight issue with lighting in our room (its ambient - I call it dark!) but staff very helpful...

I have to agree with the review posted by S R Weston (17 April) regarding the Henley Vineyard room. My wife and I stayed at Hotel du Vin Edinburgh as part of a week's holiday to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary. The superior room depicted on the Hotel's website shows a light, airy room, whereas our room was dark and...

Nice hotel. Well appointed. Very nice bathrooms. Probably not 5 star but close, they're charging 5 star prices! Speed of service in the restaurant at breakfast incredibly slow. I mean slower than a snail (feedback given directly to the hotel.) But all in all a nice hotel!

We went one Monday using our Itison voucher. What a find. The waiter was very welcoming, attentive and provided us with interesting information about the origins of the hotel. Encouraging us to take a look around after we'd eaten. The menu was neither extensive or the portions particularly generous but we did have was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. We'll...

We had one night here on our way up to the Highlands, the welcome was very warm and friendly and the staff very obliging. We had a standard room and were allocated 'Willi Optiz' which has a wonderful view down to the Royal Mile and was very comfortable. There was not too much time for exploring Edinburgh during our short...

wonderful 4/5 star service: all the staff are eastern european so I didnt get any local scottish hospitality: but the staff did try so hard! especially the receptionist Lucas at the front: he really did try and enthuse about Edinburgh and suggested places to visit and also which bus to catch where which was very useful! the hotel was not...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a long weekend and we can't rave about it enough. The room had a chic boutique feel, with a very comfortable bed and luxurious Ren toiletries. Breakfast was also great. The hotel itself was in the perfect location in the Old Town, just around the corner from Edinburgh Castle – we managed to...

My Partner and I stayed at the Hotel Du Vin Edinburgh for Easter Weekend for three nights in a superior room. All in all, the hotel is nice, clean and in a superb location for exploring the city! Walking distance to all the great sights like the castle, museums etc. However, I felt this hotel lacked the service to match...

I had an overnight stay here with my mum for her birthday and it was absolutely wonderful. The staff were the real highlight as they could not have done more to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We had a drink in the gorgeous bar, and a chat with the charming bar manager, then an excellent meal in the restaurant....

Me and my wife have been traveling for 10 days in Scotland during Easter. Our first stop was Edinburgh. To arrive at Hotel du Vin & Bistro was a pleasure at once we came in the door. We got an excellent room at the top floor called Mouton-Rothschild, with everything you could possibly was of luxury. I really recommend that...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
