Nestled within university grounds, Courtyard Edinburgh West offers a tranquil retreat favored by many for its proximity to the airport, although some guests may find it a tad tricky to pinpoint. The hotel's value receives mixed reviews, with discrepancies noted in the rewards program and customer service. However, its service shines, with friendly staff and smooth check-in processes frequently lauded. Guests are charmed by the spacious, modern rooms and commend the overall cleanliness, despite occasional lapses in consumable restocking. While some find the amenities unremarkable, the hotel's clean and stylish atmosphere is consistently praised.

Stayed here for a weekend away treat with my other half and was not disappointed with our visit.

Firstly I was slightly worried about the distance from the hotel to the main city centre but I needn't have been, if you have use of a car you can be into the centre within 20-25 minutes with multiple places to park, a taxi will take you from door to door, similar journey time for an approximate cost of £20 each way or you could make use of the bus facilities right outside the hotel with a day ticket costing £4.50 per adult with unlimited usage throughout the day!

The hotel has ample car parking for your stay with no need to fight over spaces which is always great to have in a hotel facility.

Whilst we didn't eat properly at the hotel we did have snacks and drinks, reasonably priced and the snacks were very tasty and the cocktails even more so!

Room was impecibly clean and to a very high standard, walk in shower in the bathroom, extra large bed and smart TV with the ability to cast your device to the TV should your device have the capability to do so.

Overall a very good trip, I'll be sure to check this out next time we're in Edinburgh as I'd saved over £100 for the 2 night stay just by coming out of the city by circa 7 miles!

Thank you C_Stephens5 for this great review! It is great to read that you were enjoyed our accessibility into the city centre. Even though we are not in the centre I think the peace and quiet out here makes up for the journey..... I may be bias! I hope you will be able to visit us again soon. Many thanks, Will

We booked this hotel, on the site of Heriot Watt university, through an Itison offer and found it to be very comfortable and excellent value for money. The breakfast was very tasty, the bedroom spacious with a huge bed and smart bathroom with a great shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Granted it is a little way out of the centre of Edinburgh, around 30 minutes on the bus, but there is a bus stop two minute’s walk from the hotel which takes you into the heart of the city. We would definitely book here again, especially if travelling from Edinburgh airport as it is very close. To be recommended 😊

The room was excellent and got it at a good price. Big TV, walk-in shower, air-con and very quiet. The bed was massive compared to other hotels we have stayed at and extremely comfortable.
Staff were very friendly and professional and hotel was clean throughout. The food we had in the evening was good but slightly overpriced but again the person serving was really friendly.
Didn't find many facilities nearby so would advise people to take milk, snacks etc to the hotel.

Hotel room was lovely, air conditioning and a mini fridge which is handy when not many hotels offer this. The only negative I can think of with the room is the bathroom door is basically see through as the door has a gap down the side of it. Awkward. There is plenty of parking which is also handy.

Breakfast was rubbish. The standard mushy scrambled eggs, beans, hash browns, mushrooms, sausages and something weird looking meat (also pastries, cereals etc. Which was better handy since the rest wasn’t great). The toaster was apparently broken so you had to ask staff for toast which took forever. What I would say is the meat should be kept away from the vegetarian foods as these were stored in the same trays and the spoons etc were sat together which was quite off putting especially since I don’t eat that sort of meat.

Cleaners were very friendly whereas staff working downstairs didn’t seem like they wanted to say hello most the time.

Great place if you’re not spending much time there.

Dear ss92x Many thanks for posting a review. Thank you for the positive comments relating to the bedroom. With regard to your feedback about breakfast we will take these comments and review some of our procedures and also the presentation of the buffet to ensure that there is no risk of meat contamination with vegetarian products. used our groupon afternoon tea for 4 on Sunday 1st February the hotel is built on the herriott watt university complex, from the moment we arrived i can say the service was 1st class.
our afternoon tea was fantastic we had let them know in advance 2 of our party were vegetarian they were eager to provide the correct sandwiches
we were given 2 full cake stands on the table they t were very quircky which we loved.
each had 3 tiers sanwiches on the bottom ,then 2nd tier had lovely homemade fruit scones, jams and fresh strawberries plus clotted creams, the top tier has little mini victoria cakes cream and jams, fruit cakes
tea was in individual glass tea pots and also any type of cofee you liked, along with glasses of prosseco ,fruit juice or lemonde, the hot drinks were replemished as many times you wanted
the food was stunning and the freshest bread used i highly recomend you give this a try the staff are a credit to Marriott hotels all very welcoming and happy to serve you

We had a lovely 2 night stay at this hotel.
Staff are friendly, we had a twin room with air con, which we needed as it was warm. Nice shower, mini fridge, and safe. The only things I can comment on is the room only had one chair, which was odd cause they have lovely big window, with a small table, and the dressing table never had a mirror, so had to stand to do my hair and make up at the full length mirror. There is a bus stop not far from hotel, so we got the no.25 into the city for a day rider fair of £4.50. Also the menu has no prices

Stayed here 30th Dec to 2nd Jan 2020. Comfy bed , clean room, free parking, easy check in , good housekeeping service . No for the downside - breakfast is very overpriced at 15.95 per person . We declined it and I’m glad as the tiny breakfast area would suggest the choice is very limited and the cost is double what other large chain hotels are asking . Not much around by way of shops or amenities without driving - although it was a straightforward drive into the city centre and there are frequent buses running past the hotel. All in all I think good value for this time of year and I would recommend as a good base for exploring Edinburgh and surrounding areas

For the price you can't knock this hotel - £85 for hotel, parking and breakfast for 2. Don't go expecting robes and slippers, it's basic but clean, well maintained and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was £8 each which included cooked breakfast, pastries, cereal, fruit, etc and tea/coffee/juice. My only gripe is that I called down to reception and no-one answered but it was no big deal. It's located on the outskirts of Edinburgh so not within walking distance of Old/New Town but perfect for a travel stop over.

We were in Edinburgh for a function on Sunday June 6 but the service at breakfast totally destroyed our visit. It was chaotic. Not enough staff and tables not cleared around us. We were served juice and coffee and ordered poached eggs and scrambled eggs. We were totally ignored thereafter for 35 minutes. I spoke to the restaurant manager who assured me he would chase it up. After another 10 minutes I advised him we were done and we checked out.

We were advised there would be no charge for breakfast as if that made up for attending our function with no breakfast. Clearly the desk manager had no authority to try to make it right however we will do our talking with our feet and will not be visiting any of this group’s hotels anytime soon.

Dear Matilda I'm disappointed to hear that your experience at breakfast was not to the required standard. I certainly hope you were able to take advantage of the continental elements of the buffet that are readily available in single serve portions to ensure Covid-compliance. Unfortunately at the moment our hot buffet is not available in it's normal format, again due to Covid-compliance and whilst we plan meticulously to ensure we maintain our high service standards at all times we clearly struggled to meet these on the Sunday morning you were here. We continuously review feedback as a team and we will continue to evolve our breakfast service in the coming days and months. Kind regards Stephen Williams General Manager

We were visiting family in Edinburgh close to the hotel so its location was ideal for us. Good sized room and ensuite bathroom; also a small fridge, safe and ironing board were an added reason to book.
We noticed that the 25 bus runs into the Heriot-Watt site so if you did not have your own transport, this would be a major plus. Plenty parking for your car but taking it into the city is not a good idea as Edinburgh appears to actively discriminate against 4 wheels. Strangely, there was no transport info or anything about local amenities on the TV room guide so a request notice at reception or in the room would have been more friendly for visitors to the city.
Due to pandemic, the room was not serviced, or towels replaced but reception did tell us that we could request it before day 3 of our stay. Room very clean so not an issue for us.
Only issue was lack of places to hang towels in bathroom - not enough for two people and no place to dry them.
We didn't take breakfast or eat there so can't comment on these.
Check-in and out very quick but hotel quiet when we stayed.
Would stay again.

Dear scottbird9 Many thanks for taking the time to review your visit to the hotel. As you've mentioned, we have a great location to provide easy access into the city centre via various bus routes and it certainly avoids some of the challenges of moving around Edinburgh by car. Thanks for your additional comments about the displaying of information and bedroom facilities, we will look at both and how we provide better solutions. We hope to welcome you back to the hotel for another stay soon. Kind regards Stephen General Manager

How do you get from Edinburgh airport to the hotel? Thanks in advance.
Answer from EAPearce
Rainhill, United Kingdom7 contributions
I would guess that a taxi from the airport is your best option. The tram to the nearest station would still require a taxi link. However, I'm not a local so not best placed to offer advice. Perhaps an enquiry to hotel reception could give you an estimate of likely cost.
