Great for walkers

Booked this for a special occasion. The receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is very security conscious and you need your key to access it . We received an upgrade and had a beatuful room overlooking one of the side streets as some rooms do look onto the royal mile. The hotel is in a great location , you can walk to anywhere from it, with the tourist buses stopping just outside. Few minutes away from the Castle and 5 mins to Princess Street. The hotel is very modern. Room is modern and clean. The hotel does seem quiet but due to current conditions , this might be why. Breakfast is a mixture of continental and cooked - full Scottish, vegetarian , eggs, omelettes, pancakes, rolls, fruit, cereals, yogurts and juices, all just what you need to set you up for the day. Cleaning of the rooms is still taking place each day as some are choosing not to do this during your stay, so this was also unexpected. Parking is at Raddison Blu further down the Mile and if you use sat nav, you’ll find it first and then walk up to hotel which is 5 mins away. Would recommend to stay here.

Visited the hotel recently. It was in a great location, all of the staff were very friendly. The Junior Suite was spacious and ideal for two adults and two children. It could have easily accommodated another child in there. So many lovely little touches, like fresh water bottles each day, lots of lovely toiletries in the bathroom. You could help yourself to coffee and tea in Reception area. Both the swimming pool and gym were spotless. The minuses were that the bar area was a bit dark and lacked atmosphere. Normal hotel prices for drinks. The hotel is cashless, which I don’t understand, because cash is still Legal tender. I prefer to use cash but there was no option to do so. Great stay in a great city.

Our stay at the Radisson Collection hotel on the Royal Mile,Edinburgh, was fabulous. Under the difficult restrictions during COVID-19, the hotel was immaculate and provided a freshly cooked breakfast, alongside various cold dishes, each individually wrapped to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness. The staff were helpful on arrival, finding a room that would accommodate my daughter, who had not been on the reservation. The rooms were stylish and comfortable. The hotel is perfectly placed for the Castle, the Grassmarket, Museum of Scotland and many other attractions. We were so impressed by the overall experience, we stayed an extra night. Exceptional!

Well for a 5star hotel I must admit we were a bit disappointed. On arrival at check in we were not given the normal information you would expect to get on check such as breakfast times and check out time. Our room was clean and a good size but no proper coffee only a coffee machine that took a wee while to start working as not filled with water or even switched on and after travelling through heavy traffic for 2 hours we were desperate for a coffee that we ended up going out for coffee. It is all well and good having a fancy coffee machine in the room but not everyone has one and knows how to work one so either have it ready to go or supply coffee sachets after all with the price of a room you expect to be able to just make a coffee. The breakfast was okay but even if you get a cooked breakfast there is not enough of it that you will need to go to the cold buffet table . You did have a lot of choice but I feel it was not worth the price that you pay. All the staff that we spoke with were friendly and polite but doubt I would stay here again as not worth the expense.

Dear AgnesM924, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you found the Nespresso machine difficult to use. There is a small tent card guide next to the machine explaining how to use it and the different capsule coffee of offer. It is actually very simple, you just turn it on, fill the water tank, insert the capsule and push the button either for espresso or lungo coffee. We do not fill the tank in advance for water hygiene reasons, the same as we would never leave a kettle filled or an iron. Speciality coffee is also available in our bar or via room service. We are currently undergoing a refurbishment in the restaurant and part of this is the installation of a hot buffet. This should be completed this week. This will mean that you can help yourself to hot items and can easily have more if you wish. With our current a la carte set up we can provide more items of request if you would prefer a larger portion. I will raise the point that you made about the lack of information at check in with our front of house team as you should be advised of breakfast opening times and check out time on arrival. Kind Regards, Melanie

I was unable to visit this hotel (due to a change of circumstances) and the front desk did their best to help to move the dates out. I was advised to message the manager and, to date, I’ve had zero response. I wanted to change my travel dates to my birthday weekend and the central team have been hard to deal with - one instance they called me while I was driving to work (I told them this through my car hands free) and they kept asking me to confirm my reservation number which I was as unable to do without killing myself on the motorway. They told me to call them back when I got home - by which point they were closed.
I’ve stayed here before and it’s honestly a lovely hotel in a great location however this score is purely based on my recent experience with the manager’s lack of response plus the effort required to deal with the central office.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights with friends. Checked in on Tuesday 10th March Check in process fine , but they did ask to take and extra £200 refundable in the case for meals drinks etc. After unpacking we went downstairs to ask where the bar was , as seen on other reviews about a fantastic quirky bar. Reception told us it was closed at the minute and had been moved upstairs for the time being. So off we went , to be confronted to what looked like a deserted empty restaurant ( which it is , breakfast is served here ) no couches, just tables set for breakfast ( very strange ) no ambience, we had 1 drink and left. So after 2 evenings of the hotel bar being closed I asked on the 3rd evening what was going on , and why were we not informed that basically your lounge area , the hub of a hotel is closed and I’m not quite sure you felt the need to take £200 (£400) off as a floating deposit of both rooms where we could not spend it. George the night manager was helpful as he could be and offered to take off the cost of 1 breakfast we had , and the mini bar could be ours for free , this was for both rooms. To be fair this was Thursday evening and I wasn’t about to start drinking the mini bar at 9pm , I was coming in from an evening out. I thanked him for his help. Roll on Friday , we arrived in from our evening out , to get a call from our friends to see if we had noticed the mini bar ( her husband wanted some pop ) Whilst we were out they had stripped the fridges contents and taken the sweets from a side table and a bottle of red wine from the glass display.. hey what’s going on. We telephoned reception , no one could give us a clear answer. On check out we spoke to Barbara on reception who told me she was the manager. When I spoke with my disappointment of our experience, no bar , no mention of no bar at check in or on booking .com and why the mini bar was emptied, She basically stone walled my questions. There was a bar upstairs she said ( well it’s not really is it ) The reason our fridge was emptied was that they were putting new fridges in the rooms and they needed to be cleared. Really , so why were the sweets and red wine taken Also seemed to be just our rooms , as in leaving I asked a couple was their mini bar stripped .. No! So they offered us one thing , and taken it away whilst we were out. Surely if fridges had to be taken out , and it’s contents the fridge itself would have gone they would have informed all guests The fridge was still powered up so no sign for it to be moved. Never again will I stay in a large chain hotel. Smaller hotels just have a better service and staff are not rude like Barbara! Radisson please note, paying guests are quite right to ask questions about a hotels amenities being closed and don’t always want to be fobbed off with lies

Dear nellybloggs, Thank you for your feedback. Our bar was closed for refurbishment work and in the meantime our newly refurbished restaurant space was open in the evening serving the full bar menu. Due to the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent Government advice on social distancing, these areas and temporarily closed until further notice with food and drinks outwith breakfast only being served via room service. The ÂŁ50 per room, per night deposit is detailed on all booking sites and in the booking terms and conditions. A pre authorisation is taken at check in and is released upon check out. This is standard practice in all of our hotels and indeed most hotel chains. With regards to the mini bars, this is indeed true, they are being outsourced to a third party and the fridges will be removed and replaced. This was the case for all rooms and not only yours. The reason that the wine and sweets were also removed is that although they are not in the fridge they are chargeable mini bars items. The company that are taking over this service in the hotel will provide their own stock items. I am very sorry that you were not satisfied with your stay. Barbara is a valued member of our team as a Duty Manager with many positive reviews so I am very shocked by your comments that she came across to you as rude and unhelpful. I assure you that this was not intentional and apologise on behalf of the hotel. Kind Regards, Melanie

I am writing after being totally disappointed with my stay here at Radisson Collection.
Let me first start with my reservation which I made on their website as a member, which included breakfast as I had specifically chosen this option when I made the booking. At the time of check in the receptionist could not see that the room was with breakfast but told me she would check this up and clear it with the management. Late last night I once again logged in to my account on your website to re-check the above and could clearly see that with the rate that I will be paying breakfast is included. This morning when we arrived for breakfast the situation was same as the staff on duty could not see our room with breakfast.
The second and to me a far more concerning matter is that I feel that I have been, like others are undoubtedly also bring deliberately mislead by Radisson Blu. While booking your hotel the usual and common covid notice to be found everywhere did appear informing potential customers about service disruptions which are understandable under the present and ongoing situation. However what I found here after arriving was shocking to say the least.
There was no information on how to approach the hotel and I ended up having to drive around two times before being forced to make an illegal stop so that I could make a call to the hotel for instructions.
Lack of parking space was nowhere to be seen and no prior notice of this was sent. One is expected to stop and drop off luggage in front of the hotel first before going to park the car. With the changes to the roads in front of the property and around, this becomes a challenge to say the least and stopping anywhere is not allowed. No provision is being provided by the property and no information is being given out to the customers.
Only upon inquiring do they inform customers where to park the car, which is at another Radisson and expects them to walk with luggage back to the hotel. While the distance is not much however walking against the slope is not exactly a pleasant experience. I despair to think about old people and people with disabilities making this journey.
Lastly the final shock is to find that this hotel is virtually totally shut with only rooms being provided. Restaurants are shut, all service areas are closed and even the bar is shut, at no point do they take any steps to inform about this to the customers or make a note about this closure on your websites. Leaving ambiguous message in a deliberate attempt to entrap potential customers. Coming from a major company this is shameful and unethical. I take strong exception to this. To top it all with a virtually empty hotel they assigned me a room looking out on to a construction site.
All the above has forced me to rethink whether in future I would continue to support this company whose marketing policies are based upon deception tactics. My written complaint while still in the hotel was ignored.

We do apologise to see you have left unsatisfied; you have also sent us a survey with the same content and I have just replied directly to you. We do hope to reopen our bar and restaurant soon and with regards of the restriction on the surrounding street, Edinburgh Council has recently pedestrianised Victoria Street and closed off our loading bay as part of a project for a greener city. We are in contact with them in order to offer a solution for our guests. Best Regards, Fabio A.

We visited Edinburgh for the weekend, as a group of friends. We had been walking all day and decided we would like a drink before dinner . We stopped at the Radisson. It as very busy and the bar was understaffed. We found seats and went to the bar. The bar staff were wonderful , even though really busy made us feel like we were their only guests. I must give a special mention to Julia . She made me what I can only describe as the best caramel iced coffee I have ever or likely to ever tasted in my life. Her espresso Martini was like a piece of art and tasted divine . Julia was so lovely efficient and I feel she deserved her own review. I will come back to Edinburgh just to see Julia and enjoy the best iced coffee ever.

Booked a junior suite as wanted a dining table to eat takeaways in due to Covid 19 situation. On arrival greeted warmly and complementary upgrade to the paradise suite. Wow this was fantastic with superb view of Arthur’s seat and the stunning old town. Everywhere was spotless and we felt very safe, disposable cups, glasses, etc. Room serviced on request due to Covid. Staff wearing visors/masks and screens at reception desk. One way system and clear signage informing of the guidelines. Didn’t have breakfast and restaurant and bar closed but was aware of this when booking. Will definitely stay here again when next coming to Edinburgh.

We were so thrilled with our stay at the Radisson Collection! The location and service were superb! Before arriving, I had some questions/concerns that were promptly answered by Melanie ( the general manager). At check in Thomas (guest services) made sure we were happy and offered terrific local restaurant suggestions. So grateful! The photos show views from a junior suite. We stayed in one and I asked to look at others for the purpose of this review (all were equally good) and from the gorgeous larger suite I also “toured” (Wow!) The junior suite offered a super comfy bed and nice-sized attached bathroom in one room and had a second room with one very large comfy chair (perfect to curl up and read in), a long table, second television and plenty of closet space. Plus, those views!! Even though it was a busy time for the hotel (we were there as part of a large meeting) breakfast service was excellent and housekeeping requests (extra towels etc) were promptly met. Also, it’s hard to imagine a better location. The hotel is close to key sights, museums, shops, and restaurants. We would happily stay here again!
