We really had a great time at the G&V. The location is unbeatable, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! The decor was a lot of fun too! Loads of colors and textures! Our rooms were average size, but with great amenities like an espresso machine and heated bathroom floors. The soaps and shampoos were...

We booked this hotel believing it to be a 5 star establishment but it is hard to see why. The ground floor is taken up by a small reception area and much larger, noisy cocktail bar that gives the impression you are walking into a pub rather than a hotel when you first arrive. The staff were all friendly and...

Dear Colin H, I am so sorry that your stay did not live up to your expectations and that you left the hotel feeling disappointed. We certainly are not in the business of letting our guests down but unfortunately, on this occasion, we have not got it right, for which I offer my profuse apologies. The very least I can...

Arrival: Welcome greet by the gentlemen in kilt and kindly lead us to the reception desk. Good ! Check-in: The receptionist (Lucia) was very helpful and attentive. Cheerful smile and great patience with all my questions about my stay such as breakfast time, wifi, loyalty programmes and of course the complimentary water and coffee facilities. Room: Impressed by the Nespresso...

The best you can say is that they try very hard. One is left with the impression that the staff themselves have never visited a real 5-star hotel. The carpets in the hallways are very scruffy and all times of the day are there roomservice leftovers to found in the corridors. If you need to be in that vicinity fine,...

Very unique. A co worker described it as the Austin Powers hotel. Definitely accurate. Shahgodelic! Staff was friendly and very accommodating. The location is perfect for strolling to see the sites. Room was nice, pillows a bit flat for my taste. Definitely will stay again the next time I'm in town.

Dear Scott H, Thank you for your review. I have never heard of the hotel being likened to Austin Powers but really like the analogy; bold, bright, friendly and luxurious works for us! However I am slightly confused as to why you have only awarded us 3 stars for your stay, from reading your 100% positive comments I would have...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
