Travelodge Edinburgh Central Waterloo Place garners praise for its prime location, making it a convenient base for exploring nearby attractions, with numerous guests commending the hotel's cleanliness, especially in the refurbished rooms. However, opinions on the rooms are mixed, with some visitors appreciating the basics, while others point out limitations in space and maintenance. The staff's friendliness stands out, though experiences with housekeeping vary. Despite some reports of noise disturbances, the double-glazing is often appreciated for keeping rooms peaceful. The value proposition is debated, as some consider it pricey given the room amenities and services offered.

The location is great, easy to get to from St. Andrew Square (about 5 minutes on foot). All the sights are within walking distance, which is a great plus point.
All the staff were friendly (except for Carol, who always seemed like she was being disturbed). We stored our luggage at reception, the early check-in was pointless because the previous guests hadn't checked out by 12pm and the room hadn't been cleaned yet. The room itself was on the 2nd floor on the corner with a view of Princess Street all the way to Scotts Monument. The view would have been even more fantastic if someone had cleaned the windows. Street noise was clearly audible, but that didn't bother us. The room was clean, the bathroom was fine except for the missing toilet brush, which you weren't allowed to have in the bathroom for "hygienic reasons"... We were always supposed to call if we needed cleaning. After the first time, a brush was left in the room. That was a bit strange.
When booking breakfast, it was not clear to us that there was no breakfast room. Instead, you get a breakfast to go in a cardboard box, consisting of cereal, milk, apple juice, a small cereal bar and a chocolate bun (see photo). The price-performance ratio was not right here, so we cancelled breakfast for the following day.

Well, the Edinburgh Festival was in full swing, so hotel prices are over-inflated and hard to come by but TRAVELODGE had vacancies and not so expensive compared to most others. Waterloo Place is so well placed for Waverley Station (5 minute walk) and a plethora of bus routes available in nearby Leith Street. St James shopping centre is also just round the corner, which includes several eating outlets. The hotel room was fairly basic but very clean. Storage space for clothes is very limited and unlike Premier Inn, there is no hairdryer in rooms (you have to ask at reception). As instructed, we left our notice on the outer door handle to have our towels changed, tea/coffee making supplies replenished and bins emptied. However, on returning later in the day, only new towels had been provided but the used towels had not been removed, no supplies replenished and no bins emptied. Staff at reception are amazing. So friendly and informative. All-in-all, the hotel was adequate but nowhere near the standard of Premier Inn.

Stayed overnight as going to show at the King's which is not too far away. We had the accessible twin room which was very clean. Beds were comfortable and short was very accessible with a sturdy shower seat. We had breakfast box which included cartons of milk and apple juice. Cornflakes in a tub, oatty bar and choc au pain bread. It was very filling. We went along I shops before checking out at 12

Checked in and were not given any information regarding the door being locked at 10pm, we only found this out as we overheard other guests being told when they were checking in. Very shabby and tired looking room, very warm and definitely needed a fan. Had to ask for a fan that actually worked just so we could be comfortable in the room. The carpet was marked, the back of the door and graffiti on it which had been cleaned off, but you could still clearly see it. Bathroom was not in an acceptable condition, and we didn’t want to even have a shower. The bed linen and towels were not to a standard we would expect when paying £220 per night! We were notified of the noise, but due to the temperature in the room the windows had to be left open and we had about 3 hours sleep!
Vending machine in lobby wasn’t working so nowhere to get a bottle of water, there were people asleep in the lobby in the morning which didn’t look good at all.
As we were so disappointed that we checked out after 1 night and when doing so the Receptionist did nothing to try and appease us.

I stayed here for one night when meeting up with friends. Looking at a variety of hotels, this one came out as the cheapest with a central location.

Booking was very simple on the website. Check in was very quick. Staff were really polite, friendly and welcoming. My room was in the basement, Lower ground 3. Room was clean, a nice size with plenty of towels. Shower worked well and the bed was comfortable.

Slight negatives - the room was very warm. The windows were open but the heating was on very high. I had to turn the radiator off but even then it was very warm and made sleeping uncomfortable. The other point is the room and hallway outside were a little bit tired. Clean but tired and could do with a little spruce up.

Not a great experience here. Bucket and towel in window was required to collect rainwater coming through window. A most uncomfortable mattress meant I got little sleep during my stay. Tiny electric heater struggled to warm room. Much room for improvement.

We stayed from 14th - 17th Feb and would 100% come back here again. The staff were all lovely and friendly, particularly the gentleman on the desk this afternoon (17th) who looked after our bags for us. Everyone was helpful and approachable, including the cleaners we encountered through the corridors. While our room was quite warm when we went in, we turned the radiator off and it soon cooled down to a kinder temperature for us. The light behind our bed randomly stopped working for a short period of time but came back on. Bed lovely and comfy.

All in all a lovely stay!! Thanks to all staff.

Airline Bus from Edinburgh airport every 30 mins, £8 anytime return, stops just near Waverley station and only about 250m from the hotel. My first room was on a level reached by 30 stairs (not good for a 78 year old) but the hotel was full so Mr T on reception changed it to a much better one the next day and carried my bag there for me. Squeaky clean and a very comfortable bed. Very helpful and friendly. He even fixed a problem with my phone connection to the internet!
Shops and restaurants close by and walking distance to all the sights.
I would highly recommend this Travelodge and give a big thank you to Mr T and the other staff who made me so welcome.

Excellent location
Rooms are basic. They really beed more storage space and plug sockets.
Lights are a bit dim.
Bathroom small but usable.
Fluffy towels.
Extra pillows.

However, the floorboards are very creaky.i feel sorry for whoever was under us.

Room wasn't cleaned well, I had to ask for the floor to be hoovered again (which I'm not convinced it was done).

If you want clean towels or rubbish changing you are asked to leave them outside the room before 11am.

Did this but towels where not replaced and rubbish not taken.

One night a rancid drain smell came from the bathroom. After running all the taps for a while it dispersed slightly but not completely.

For a city centre it's first value but it is basic.

This Travelodge is in a perfect location being close to the station and easy stroll to both old and new towns. However, this is the only upside.

Nobody at reception on check in - just a placard giving a phone number to contact somebody to check us in

No luggage storage - the only solution was to pay £10 for early check in. This was after paying £149.99 a night for a mediocre room (booked to attend Tattoo which was cancelled in 2020 then again in 2021. We could only transfer the booking once so had no choice )

Tiny room with small window letting in very little daylight. The supplied lighting was appalling with 2 dim ceiling lights and 2 tiny bedside lights.

Despite paying for 3 adults the second bed was a very firm, narrow roll away, full length but only only about 2'6" wide. It was placed under the wardrobe rendering it unusable (as is usual in Travelodge, it's only a shelf with hangers dangling below)

We didn't bother with the breakfast box, preferring to eat at one of the many local restaurants......We ate at the Booking Office and The Standing Order)

Clean bathroom with powerful, hot shower. Curtain sticks to body though.

We wouldn't recommend this hotel with so many cheap and better alternatives in the area
