Just back home after a fantastic 2 night stay at the Waldorf. I stayed there with my sister and a friend who was celebrating her birthday . The hotel was spotless and tastefully decorated for Christmas. I cannot speak highly enough about the hotel and without exception, every single member of staff we came across exhibited the rare combination of... More

We stayed one night whilst passing through Edinburgh and I must admit it was disappointing. The room was nothing special with a view over the car park. The tap dripped all night, there were stains on the towel and bed sheets and we were woken up by the maid trying to get into our room at 8! Would not recommend... More

The hotel is situated at the castle end of Prince's street so was easy access to the shops, Xmas market and Castle. The spa was small however it wasn't busy so we had sole use of it on both night of our stay.

Coming from our place in Italy, as expats it was wonderful to be back in the world of the English language! The Caledonian was lovely with very friendly staff and wonderful views of the castle. We enjoyed the restaurants as well. For a birthday weekend, it was a lovely time, even though it was very cold! Great location too. Only... More

Just checked out of the Waldorf. Me and my boyfriend decided instead of buying xmas pressies this year we would go to Edinburgh to see the christmas market and stay in a dearer hotel than we would normally stay. Paid £150 for one night which we were happy with as looks like a lovely hotel. We were greeted by a... More

Once again this hotel does not disappoint, staff attention excellent, chef accommodated gluten free request without any fuss, bed linen crisp white and feather duvets, sleeping at the back quieter not the view but it's a room to sleep in. Great restaurant and bar, lovely food and great staff

Our stay was fantastic and we loved the location for our honeymoon!! The staff was great and service was wonderful! The room was very clean but the bed was VERY uncomfortable and the sheets were horrible.

Great hotel, great staff. Always made welcome when we stay, the entire hotel team from arriving to leaving couldn't be more helpful. Even took time to have a play in that spa pool with my son, he loved the child friendly area off to one side - Top job, great hotel for a relaxing fuss free break!

Had a wonderful stay at this very centrally located hotel. Arrived 3hrs prior to check in and our room was ready, valet parking real handy too. Only disappointment for us was the famous caley bar was closed and unfortunately we hadn't been informed. One member of staff said it was being refurbished whilst another told us that periodically the decision... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
