Not the first afternoon tea at The Howard but the first review. Up visiting a friend in Edinburgh and we went to The Howard for an afternoon tea on the Saturday. When you pass through the front door of the Howard you really step back in time and then experience a level of service associated with a different generation. Tranquility, relaxation, excellence, quality service are words that one would associate with this unique Georgian experience. The staff are amazing and the butler service very unique. Breakfast is exceptional and our room... More

Stayed one night at the Howard for a business dinner. The staff were each and everyone of them delightful; professional, helpful and caring. Well done and thank you. Comfortable room, clean good linen and excellent coffee served by the Night Porter before I headed off to the airport very early the next day . I will be back next time... More

We stayed for 5 nights in early October, 2016. Amazing, but no rain at all. Room was large, but lighting inadequate for reading. Outstanding staff attentiveness and very fine breakfasts. Visited another room (Superior Double??) on first floor while we were there ... just the ticket for our next visit.

Had a wonderful weekend at the Howard with my daughter. It's on a quiet residential street convenient to restaurants shopping and attractions. Georgian townhouses covered to a hotel with a lovely garden apartment suite. Modern bathrooms and wonderful restaurant Atholl. But by far the most wonderful aspect is Butler life. Roy and Silva took amazing care of us and brought... More

We traveled all over Scotland, and stayed in many hotels. This was our absolute favorite hotel and room. We stayed in the Cockburn room, which had plenty of room, a big closet, a big bathroom with a claw foot tub and two vanities, and featured a beautiful view over the the rooftops of Edinburgh. We only stayed for one night,... More

I stayed at The Howard at the beginning of my Scotland trip and returned there again at the end. My first room was a suite with a sitting room and separate bedroom. Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
