The Sheraton is reputedly one of Edinburgh's premier hotels, and from the outside and the onset it looks like and acts like it. However the sometimes pretentious attitude of its staff on evenings like I had let it down. The food also on such occasions wasn't up to the standard I expected let alone hoped for. Will I stay there... More

Don't be put off by the drab exterior, this place is smart. Feels like a proper world class hotel. Staff were excellent, the room was smart and cosy with a comfy bed and view of the castle and usher hall. The bar has an upscale feel to it,great cocktails and pre show vibe. Just a 2second stroll away from the... More

Large rooms, recently refurbished, high speed free wi-fi, friendly and efficient staff. It's all pretty good really. Two stand out things: great bed. Large firm and comfy. Second, the complicated lighting system in the room. A straightforward light switch would obviously be too passé so the Sheraton has normal lighting and two "relaxing" settings plus the ability to vary the... More

Very nice hotel in good location. All sightseeing-attractions like Edinburgh Castle, Royal Street, Pricess Street and George Street in 10 minutes walking distance. Very nice wellness area with outdoor pool overlooking the medival town and castle. Rooms were a bit to dark.

This was my 2nd visit in just a few months and irritatingly the same problem occurred on arrival around 7.00pm - the allocated room had not been cleaned and serviced. The hotel reacted well by finding another SPG Club Room immediately, the Duty Manager penned a letter of apology which was delivered to my (new) room inside 30 minutes and... More

This fabulous hotel is in a marvellous setting looking up the hill towards the castle and is beautifully appointed. The capacious room I stayed in has a superb ensuite facility with mood lighting, large separate shower and bath. The bed was huge and the room was pristine. Nice touches like a drawer with proper cutlery and glasses for mini bar... More

We stayed at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa on Aug 15-16 in Edinburgh. To give you an indication of the service, we arrived with our roller bags, quite capable to roll our bags to our room, but an assistant from the front desk insisted on escorting us to our very lovely room and showing us around. I have never... More

Stayed here for three nights at the end of November with my partner. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the staff can't do enough to help you! Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
