The Bonham Hotel garners accolades for its elegant amenities, including cozy beds and a variety of dining options, nestled in a prime location that appeals to both leisure and business travelers. While guests laud the charming and clean rooms, some caution about the thin walls and absence of air conditioning. The hotel's service is generally celebrated for its warmth and professionalism, though it's not without occasional lapses.
Opinions on value are split, with some finding the pricing reasonable and others pointing out extra costs. The overall atmosphere of the hotel, with its luxurious touches, receives consistent praise.

My husband and I came here on honeymoon and we had an absolutely wonderful time!
All of the staff were friendly and helpful from those at the front desk to the cleaners who kindly let us back int he room when we had both forgotten our key card. One of the staff at the front desk was particularly knowledgeable about the hotel's history, which helped to bring the experience to life.
We booked so that we had breakfast included and both enjoyed the wide selection with cooked breakfasts (the Full Scottish and eggs benedict were both particularly delicious) and continental options.
The room itself was beautiful and well equipped with coffee machine, teas, and snack selection all included. The bed was comfortable and it was always nice to come back in every day after breakfast to the room freshened and clean with new towels.
Overall, we were both very pleased with the service and amenities provided. The hotel itself is only a short walk from Prince's Street with bus stops even closer. A beautiful boutique hotel!

I really liked this hotel, I can't remember a better hotel experience. The staff were amazing, so helpful, friendly. I wish I knew all their names, but Lucas stood out as a model for all hotel staff. The location is quiet and about a 10 min walk from some great restaurants, and about 20 from the old town. This place has an old world feel, which I love. Oak paneling and beautifully decorated areas to relax and have a drink. The room was great, plenty of hot water, and though it's old, everything worked perfectly. My room key card was only required for entry to the room, not for the elevator, not to keep the room lights on, I liked that. If there is anything that could be improved, I'd say the food. It's not that it was bad, just felt it lacked the oomph that the rest of the experience had. But that wasn't an issue because Edinburgh has a great selection of places to eat. Price wise, it was very reasonable, I've paid more for much much less.

The Bonham has such beautiful traditional decor and design you feel as though you’ve gone back in time to live like a royal Scot. Its location is just minutes from important historical attractions within one of the upscale residential neighborhoods that was quiet and attractive. Reception could get us Taxis under 10 mins & most destinations were within a 15 min Taxi ride or a pretty walk. Eco-friendly practices for the rooms which are also comfortable, clean & beautifully decorated. Amenities included welll- stocked Nespresso, tea & shortbread & milk & filtered Cold water. Bathrobes, lovely toiletries & bathtub. The No. 35 restaurant’s Snoozy Boozy lunch exceeded our expectations on both service & food quality / presentation and also a good value! Staff was pleasant, helpful and seemed to take pride in their positions. I recommend this hotel 100% to others & hope to return myself. The Bonham enhanced my visit to Scotland full fold.

We stayed at The Bonham Hotel for 4 nights during the Fringe Festival. It was our first time at this hotel & we absolutely loved it. We chose it as a) not only did it look like a very stylish and comfortable hotel but b) it was located in a quiet area of Edinburgh, in the West End. The hotel is in a residential and leafy area of Edinburgh and it was usually a 20-30 min walk to most of the Fringe venues, most of which are located south of Princes Street. Usually we go for a deluxe or superior room, but as the prices are higher than usual during The Fringe, we opted for the standard "townhouse double" and whilst it wasn't a massive room, it was perfectly OK for a 4 night stay & didn't feel squashed at all. The layout was good & well designed & and the bathroom was a good size too and also included a bath without compromising on space. The staff were also great, the rooms were sooo comfortable with high quality bed linen (an essential for a good nights sleep), lovely toiletries and the obligatory Scottish shortbread on your pillow! Breakfast was also very good and well priced. We ate breakfast out a couple of mornings & found it ended up being the same price as the hotel breakfast (which is £26 per person for full or £20 per person for continental). We cannot wait to return - thank you!

Hotel is a breath of fresh air in this modern plastic world of 5 star hotels .this is a classic Old world style hotel of a past era ,staff all trained to high standard of customer service/profile ,bedrooms mixture of modern needs but the old facade of the building still there which adds to the character and style ,the whole hotel is decorated in old antiques and pictures which again adds to the embiance and experience. Strongly suggest booking breakfast ,the room is absolutely beautifully decorated and the breakfast is good old fashioned service style ,part buffet and the main served to you ,emphasis on excellent quality rather than mass food quantity . Final account ,if you want modern 5 star style hotels don't come here ,but if appreciate old style class ,service ,quiet and peaceful eating and drinking areas in classic surroundings with polite and friendly staff ,you will know by this that this hotel is for you .

A recent revision of social etiquette and habits reports that the aristocracy or so called upper echelons of society no longer stay in hotels, unless someone else is paying for them to do so. They stay in friends grand town and country homes on a quid pro quo basis as they traverse the country, no money changing hands. The guide also states that fluffy white bath linen is a must.
The Bonham Hotel not only has white fluffy towels but has revived the grandeur of the three fine Edinburgh New Town homes which it now occupies. The houses were built around 1870 for wealthy citizens bravely spreading out from the security of the Castle, hence the area being named ‘New Town’ as against the Old Town. The owner of The Bonham has sympathetically restored the properties to create a boutique hotel without losing the charm of the original, fine oak staircases, panels and window frames, sumptuous curtains, elegant decor and a wonderful collection of art on all floors.
Early in the 20th century the properties were occupied as a Maternity Clinic. What better place for us to stay and mark my wife’s birthday, for she is known as a ‘Bonham Babe’ one who was born there. The staff could not have been more welcoming and made her stay very memorable.
Highly recommended.

Luxury hotel with very elegant interior. Room cosy and with nice extra touches. Very comfy bed and choice of pillows on request. Lovely bathroom with good choice of excellent toiletries supplied. Also fridge with fresh milk, plus tea and coffee making facilities.
Close to Princes Street (but away from the bustle). Our room was at the front of the hotel, overlooking the small park. Very quiet so you can expect a good night's sleep. Pretty much everything is walkable (depending on your fitness levels of course!) but the bus/tram services are superb in this lovely city.
Overall we found customer service in Edinburgh just top notch, with everyone so friendly and helpful. The staff at the hotel are no exception to the rule.
Negatives? Well, this is a very expensive hotel in an expensive city, so be financially prepared! There are obviously cheaper 'chain' hotels but these probably won't compare in most respects. However...we were somewhat disappointed that our room cost (£300+ per night) did not include breakfast (our fault for not checking the booking properly). We could have had breakfast there, of course, but for another £40+ per day (even if you only want a fairly small meal) this was pushing the envelope somewhat! Personally, I think that that room price should include a breakast.
Unfortunately the hotel plumbing decided to throw a wobbly from our first night (of four). A period of clanking, banging and whistling during the late evening was followed by a different (but equally intrusive) set of noises in the early hours. Not s good start after a tiring day of travelling! We reported this to reception the next morning. It happened again in the early hours the second night so we called the 24hr reception who responded quickly to try and fix the problem. We had no further problems after that but obviously having two badly disturbed nights wasn't the best experience. It would have been a nice gesture on the part of the hotel to offer us some sort of compensation for the disturbance (maybe a complimentary breakfast or a bottle of wine or similar?). Perhaps they could take a look st how Premier Inns deal with their guests under such circumstances? Just a thought! Anyway, overall a lovely hotel and close to, but not quite, 5/5.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this feedback. We're sorry to hear that you did not fully enjoy your stay with us. Our maintenance team tried their best to fix the unexpected plumbing issue after the first night and we were really disappointed to hear it repeat the next evening. Besides offering a add on breakfast we also offer individually priced dishes and we are sorry that you did not had opportunity to check them and that our team did not mention it. That’s right. Our room was in the hotel basement. Subterranean. Classified as a Garden View Superior King, we were astonished if not stupefied to discover that our room was below street level — allowing us to see pedestrians’ legs close up.
What’s more, the bathroom would only accommodate one adult at a time — and the closet space was so minuscule that we couldn’t unpack. The room safe was inconveniently located on a high shelf in the closet, which we couldn’t reach without a chair.
We paid approximately USD 500 for the room, fortunately for one night only. The room bore absolutely no resemblance to the garden view rooms showcased on their website. We felt utterly deceived.
As far as we could assess, there is no garden, and hence no garden view. There was even a maintenance guy literally working right outside our window while we were getting dressed.
My Japanese wife made the reservation in her name and I can only deduce that the hotel, as they allocated the superior kings from best to worst, gave us the basement — after all, “she’ll not complain”……but she did. To no avail.
The front desk staff were at best ambivalent, at worst condescending. We never heard from the manager and there was no effort to recover. Nothing.
We checked out first thing in the morning. For future unsuspecting fellow travelers contemplating The Bonham — the title of this piece says it all.

Thank you for your review, I'm sorry to read you did not like the location of your room. In common with all hotels we have rooms with a wide range of locations within the building. 2 of our 49 rooms have this location and as your photo nicely shows, these rooms are very bright and certainly do not feel "basement". I'm afraid we were fully booked on the room type reserved on the night of your stay and my understanding is that the upgrade option offered was declined by yourself. The ethnicity of our guests, rightly so, has no influence on room allocation - indeed we are a multicultural hotel with over 10 different nationalities within our team. It's unfortunate that you would have this opinion, I'm sorry we were not able to give you a more enjoyable stay with us, Regards Douglas Campbell General Manager

We stayed at The Bonham Hotel this past August into early September. Lovely hotel! One of the best we've ever stayed at. Attentive, friendly staff, nice, quiet, elegant bar/restaurant, and we especially liked the quiet, pretty, and still convenient off-the-beaten-path location. When we saw some of other other hotels located right in the heart of the busiest streets, we were so happy that we had chosen to stay at The Bonham. It's a small touch, but I thought it was nice that the housekeepers left the radio on playing soft classical music every time they freshened the room. I'd like to stress that we really appreciated the helpfulness of the staff, which was outstanding.

The Bonham Hotel is an oasis of understated elegance in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. While enjoying a wonderful long weekend in the city, we were always able to come back to The Bonham for great drinks in the beautifully appointed bar where there was comfort, fun, and a fantastic selection of premium beverages. Breakfast can either be from a buffet or ordered a la carte, and we were never disappointed. We opted to eat in at the restaurant one evening and had a fine experience. The heirloom tomato salad was exquisite and while all of the meats were good, the sauces were the stars of the show.
The rooms were lovely and comfortable, with many amenities. My husband and I splurged and had Suite 104. If you want extra space and a view of the gardens, this is a fabulous two room suite. Our friend opted for city views and room 310 provided remarkable views. Service was exceptional.
