The Travelodge Edinburgh Central Hotel boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, often described as homely by guests who appreciate the comfortable rooms. While the staff's friendliness and helpfulness receive commendations, some guests have noted service inconsistencies. Despite the central location being a hit for its convenience to attractions, noise levels can be bothersome for some visitors. Room cleanliness generally earns high marks, though opinions on value and amenities vary, with criticisms directed at additional charges and basic offerings.

The hotel is situated at one end of the Royal Mile and about 10 minutes walk from the Market Street entrance of Waverley rail station.
The rooms are standard Travelodge, but very clean, with decent bedding and towels. I was on the ground floor and overlooked the car park and a church. For somewhere located so centrally, I must say there was absolutely no noise from inside or outside the hotel.
Room cleaning is only provided on request - you just pop on a sign on the door before 11 and they will clean. make beds, change towels. They have coffee, etc at reception if you need top ups. The shower room was fine with hot water and decent pressure.
The TV was a decent size with plenty of channels and a heater was provided in the bedroom (not the bathroom).
The bar/dining area is lovely with books provided. The buffet breakfast was well laid out and covered most of what you would need. The staff kept on eye on the display and topped it up regularly. I did not have dinner, but there seemed to be a good choice of bar meals at a reasonable price (around the ÂŁ12-15 mark).
You can walk to pretty much all the main tourist attractions within about 30 minutes max. There are trains, trams and buses nearby if you want to venture further afield. I was on my own and felt perfectly safe walking around at night. There are bars next door and a 24 hour mini mart across the road should you need any provisions.
All in all a good choice and (for Edinburgh standards) a reasonable price

I stayed at Travelodge Central for 3 nights, got an amazing deal for a family room. I stayed in a box room in Grassmarket for just 1 night in September at a privately run hotel which was actually only ÂŁ27 less! To get 3 nights for just an extra ÂŁ27 was incredible. The whole place is being redecorated in corridors, new mattresses, etc. Cannot fault it. Spotless room and everywhere clean esp, restaurant and food area. The light ÂŁ7.50 breakfast I had was amazing. I did so enjoy it. Food was kept in covered hygenic conditions, and no mess, staff frequently refilled and cleaned area. Nothing was too much for them they even warm up your croissants or pancakes for you! Reception staff were a lovely friendly group.
The Travelodge Central is right in the middle of everything The Castle, The incredible Museum of Scotland, St Giles Cathedral, Princess St, and Waverley station. Children and dogs are made very welcome. I believe children's meals are free with an adult.
It is much more than a budget hotel. It had everything I expect... was spotless all over, food hygiene was 5 stars + room was massive and everything in it brand new, carpet looked new too, lovely bathroom with loads of fluffy white towels, bed was huge and lovely crisp white sheets.
If you want to stay in Edinburgh with everything on your doorstep this is the hotel to go to. Can't recommend it enough, and I do see faults in places, but none here. Especially the food prep which was excellent. Perhaps other smaller hotel establishments who charge much more in Edinburgh for shoddy rooms and poor service should go on a Travelodge course on how to provide excellent customer satisfaction without ripping them off. Well done Travelodge, you have a returning customer in me. See you in June. X

We decided to stay in the hotel one night while we were going to climb Arthur seat. The location for that one the kings gallery is perfect as it's only a shortish walk down the royal mile. When arrived at hotel we were met by the lovely hotel manager who checked us in very good and quickly. We paid the ÂŁ15 for early check in which is worth it as you then have full day ahead of your plans. We had a beautiful modern decorated room and nothing was out of place or filthy. They even had the heating on for us coming in which is nice. Usual tea and coffee facilities and if you run out there is more on reception to help yourself to.. great wardrobe space with hangers and a bag with two extra pillows. Bed super clean and comfortable and a good size. Two chairs to sit on and your standard TV. The bedside has a usb b and a usb c charger point which I think is a nice touch including all other charging points in the room. Nice size dressing table and mirror for business needs or getting ready and a mirror on the back door. Fresh clean towels left on your bed for you and shower and bathroom was spotless. Probably one of the nicest Travelodge rooms we've stayed in and when coming back we want the same room!

The hotel itself is a standard Travelodge in a fairly central location just off the Royal Mile, more towards the Holyrood end.
We booked the new superior room type and found ourselves on the 3rd floor. The room had a coffee machine, 2 instant hot chocolate sachets (we were a party of 3) and 3 mini kitkats. Iron and ironing board and a nice enough chair. Bathroom had a bath which was strangely shallow in depth, so not suitable for a good soak.
The room and hotel are clean and nice enough for the standard Travelodge experience.
The real negative of this hotel is the lack of luggage storage upon arrival, which to be fair is a big thumbs down and will influence our decision to stay again.
Edinburgh is a tourist destination and the majority of people checking into a hotel there are going to have luggage. This hotel has a new policy whereby guests checking in can no longer leave luggage before 3pm at official checking in time. Last year they allowed luggage storage - apparently too much luggage before check in impacts on reception staffs welfare (or so said the hotel manager). So you can either wait til 12pm and pay ÂŁ15 extra to check in early or be directed across the road to a local shop who will charge you an amount per bag to store your bag until you can traipse back to the hotel to check in.
This policy is not a blanket policy for all Travelodge hotels (so some of their staff’s welfare is more important than others? London hotels tend to offer the service, at least the Waterloo one does.
Anyway, bad show Travelodge Edinburgh. Very unsympathetic to your paying customers and a turn for the worse in terms of policy. You certainly excelled in NOT putting your customers at the heart of your business.
If you have luggage and arrive before official check in time. think twice before booking this hotel.

This Travelodge is excellent value for money and is ideally situated just off the Royal Mile, midway between the Castle and Holyrood Palace. Luggage can be left before accessing the room and also after checking out. The reception and bar staff were welcoming and pleasant and my room was comfortable and warm. Fresh supplies of milk, tea and coffee were available at the reception desk, including de-caff coffee which isn't always available. I'll certainly stay again.

First of all, I'd like to point out that the staff we spoke to were all very friendly and helpful, however, on arrival we were told that there had been pullout beds put into our room even though I had called a week previous to request a travel cot as we were travelling with a one year old and had no need for the pullout beds.
The location of the hotel is excellent in relation to city centre attractions, however due to the minimal parking available, we did not feel confident that we could leave the car park and be guaranteed a space on return so this limited us to public transport during our stay, which obviously came at an additional cost when we had already paid ÂŁ51 to park at the hotel.
We have stayed in other travelodge hotels with super rooms and the one we were given did not seem to meet our expectations of other travelodge hotels we have stayed in. The carpets were visibly dirty with muck under the beds, and the top shelf on the cabinet had not been cleaned, anything we put on there came down full of dust, so it appeared to have not been cleaned for a long period.
The bath in the room we stayed in, also had visible marks which we assume are cigarette burns from a previous stay, but the bottom of the bath also had an inbuilt bath mat type of area which did not look completely clean, so we opted to not bath our child while we were there as we were not convinced that the bath was 100% clean for a one year old baby standard.
I would recommend the hotel to others travelling as adults only, who may be visiting the city for nightlife etc. due to the central location and friendliness of the staff, however I would not recommend this hotel to families travelling with young children due to the parking situation and the issues I had with cleanliness

I just stayed for one night on a business trip as this was the most affordable option in an expensive city.

The positives: excellent location, extremely close to Waverley station and a short walk to the Scottish Parliament. The bed was very comfortable and although my room was at the front of the hotel there was no street noise at all on a Wednesday night in peak Christmas party season. Breakfast was hot and of decent quality.

The negatives: even for a Travelodge, this is basic. No hairdryer in room, no toiletries or glasses/tumblers, poor WiFi connection that isn't even free. The biggest shock was for a city centre hotel to have no facility for storing luggage - I was directed to a convenience store across the road where my bag was stored at a cost of ÂŁ4! When I've paid ÂŁ105 for a night in a hotel, that really is taking the proverbial and would put me off returning.

We recently stayed here whilst on a short family break in Edinburgh and it was a great experience with good location and welcoming staff. The reception staff were very helping in checking in as well as always on hand to help with any room issues. The breakfast was the highlight as the space in the bar area could become challenging with so many guests but the breakfast team were excellent always finding ways to accommodate us as well as other guests, the service went above and beyond with fresh warm options to cater all. Luigi was the star who together with his breakfast team made the difference in a wonderful stay. The only thing I would suggest is their cleaning team needs to focus a little more on hoovering the rooms as they were not same standards as other budget hotels.

We booked a SuperRoom on the 3rd floor which promised quieter rooms; however, we could still hear all the sirens, drunk people, horns, early in the morning.. I can't fault the hotel though as it is during the Fringe Festival. It was really hot so we slept with the windows open (this hotel does not have temperature control, although they do provide an electric fan which was quite noisy, so it was a struggle to fall asleep). The management of housekeeping should take a closer look into cleaning, i.e. the bathrooms since the end of the shower curtain was already turning brown from the soap residue and dirt and there were pink mildew developing in several corners in the bathroom which could potentially be a health hazard for guests. Positives include the coffee/tea provided in the room which was especially delightful in the mornings and the reception staff was friendly and accommodating. I just hope the management imposes stricter measures when it comes to cleanliness.

My family and I stayed in this hotel as a base for the fringe. When we checked in the receptionist told us that the rooms aren’t cleaned, the bedding isn’t changed and you’ll only receive fresh towels if you request them. This seemed unusual for a hotel but it was worse than expected. When they say the rooms aren’t cleaned, we stayed for 4 nights and our bins weren’t emptied. We were travelling with 2 small kids so the small room got dirty fast & it wasn’t cleaned, even freshened up, once over those 4 nights. There was no soap in the hand soap dispenser in the bathroom. The curtains were hanging off the pole they were hung from. There is no fridge in the room. There is no free wifi, you have to purchase wifi and even then, it’s spotty at best. We didn’t eat in the hotel so I can’t comment on the food but having to ask for fresh toilet paper at reception after a long day of touring the city, with 2 small kids, is outrageous. And for this crappy stay, we paid over £900. I know prices are raised because of the fringe and I get that when you’re staying somewhere nice. This is a glorified hostel. The only positives are the location, just off the royal mile, and the shower pressure. Save your money and go elsewhere!
