For those of us who can remember a 'real' hotel before everything was standardised and characterless, here's a real find. Everything was clean, tidy and of quality with rooms maintained daily to a great standard with fresh towels etc. Close walking distance to a variety of eateries if you want to venture out including vegan and speciality restaurants and an...

Stayed last weekend of October and had a wonderful time. Although it was a family stay, we were four adults. My eldest and I were delighted to have a tour of the club and hotel with a lovely club member, being a history teacher my daughter was fascinated with the background of both. If you like a modern, business faceless...

A most pleasant stay in a unique environment. Excellent and welcoming staff, an excellent choice at the bar, and some of the best breakfasts around. The location is very central, but sufficiently far from the hustle, with a wide choice of restaurants nearby.

Like staying in an old world gentleman's club for the very good reason that that's what it is. A refreshingly original experience. The Common rooms are especially inviting. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Thick layer of dust/dirt on electrical sockets. Mugs and spoons not washed since previous client. Couldn't connect to wi fi despite room upstairs. Receptionist took phone call during checkout so barely acknowledged me. Would have been polite to put caller on hold and deal with checkout. I could then have given feedback but no opportunity given

Excellent quality rooms and a great night's sleep. Ideally located and easy evening parking. This lovely old traditional building lends itself to informal yet high standard accommodation. Will definitely be looking at stating here when next in Edinburgh.

We had our wedding reception at the Royal Scots Club and it was amazing! The venue managed to be both impressive and incredibly welcoming to all our guests. One of the highlights is definitely having the use of Queen Street Gardens for photographs. It’s just wonderful to have wooded outdoor wedding photos despite literally being in the centre of Edinburgh....

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
