We stayed here as it was easy walking distance from Waverley train station. Very difficult entrance to negotiate, but one of the guys from reception came down to carry our bags up the last part of the stairs. Lovely spacious rooms, lovely breakfast, not impressed with the afternoon tea!. Handy for the sightseeing bus tours as they start just across...

Our table was set up in the breakfast dining area where we were placed amongst a private party for a 80 year old gentle man. We were shown to our table in the middle of the sons speech which was embarrassing. Don't expect to get a selection of sandwiches, you'll get one choice of sandwich , bog standard tea and...

Beware the lobby of this hotel is up a set of about 15 steps with no lift. This was an issue as all of us have back and knee issues. Their is a bell call button for luggage on the wall but we didnot see it. Also had an issue getting the front desk to print out a copy of...

Me and my partner visited this hotel in January on a very last minute trip. The location of this hotel is the fantastic! You can see the castle from the hotel, catch the hop on hop off bus opposite the hotel, your right in the heart of the city! The hotel is comfortable and clean. It is quite dated decor...

This hotel has problems. Location is great, it is across from the Waverly Train Staion. That is very convenient. But this hotel has issues. 1st: lots of steps (with heavy luggage) just to get to the lobby. 2nd: they use regular keys for the room. That can be a security issue. 3rd: We were on the 6th floor, the top...

The views are great! The rooms however, are very small and cramped. As well, in order to enter the lobby, there is a tall flight of stairs, which, if you have suitcases, can be difficult to manage! Overall, I would stay here again. The location was very convenient.

The hotel is in a great location in Princess street , across the road from Waverley train station & Waverley Bridge. It is only a few minutes walk to Rose Street where there are many bars & restaurants & a 10 minute walk to the Royal Mile . The hotel is old & a bit dated but staff were very...

Love this place. The Old Waverly in on Princes Street and the tram from the airport stops just around the corner. Over the small bridge is the Waverly Train station and a bit further on and you are in Old Edinburgh.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
