This has to have been the best hotel experience I've had in the uk. We were actually in the basement, with windows to the back and front. It was extremely quiet, a palatial and superbly comfortable bed, and heating that went off when told to! Breakfast was excellent - my requested peppermint tea arrived in a giant pot with 2... More

We stayed here for a few days and found the staff to be very helpful and the room and food good. We would return again. The receptionist went out of their way to arrange taxis and made us feel very welcome

My husband I have stayed at the Channings Hotel three times. Our first experience back in 2006 was excellent; our second stay in 2012 would be downgraded from excellent to good. However our third experience with Channings Hotel this December 2013 was so horrible that we will never stay there again. We had booked a five night stay at Channings... More

Stayed here for couple of nights after being recommended by friends. Bit out of city centre if you dont like walking but the bus stop is nearby Hotel is a more traditional which suits with its age. Comfortable rooms and although we were in the second floor there is a small lift which helps with luggage. Only had breakfast in... More

Stuck in Edinburgh for an extra night when plane was cancelled, tried Channings and got a great price for a last minute booking. Chairs at reception, warm and friendly, lovely atmosphere. Room was good size, bathroom with separate bath and shower (and a chair) ditto. Good breakfast. Stylish, comfortable and relaxing. I like the location, too, but if you need... More

Three of us went in 2011. Two of us returned in June. We liked the service and personal. Scott is wonderful and remembered us. He even asked about the third person' The tea was just what I expected from an excellent place. I am from Texas and could not believe the delicious nachos.

Great location, only a short walk from town. Hotel is traditional in decor spread over five houses, this leads to a slight mish mash of rooms for example we had to walk via another floor to gain access to our room when the adjoining dinning area was being used. Internally the decor is good although our room was especially dark.... More

The rooms totally blew us away with the attention to details, massive bath tub and a huge four poster bed. The hotel is actually 5 Edwardian town houses knocked together. The staff could not have been friendlier. Only downsides: the breakfast was a bit lack luster (standard anemic B&B fare) and the reception desk did not answer their phone 24... More

Great bedroom, enormous comfortable bed, lovely furnishings. Reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. The bathroom in our room was tired, cracked sink, loose fittings and the shower took an age to warm up (what a waste of water)! Breakfast was disappointing ,cooked breakfast clearly zapped in a microwave, hard poached eggs and bacon welded together! Not the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia reflecting the history of previous tenant Sir Ernest Shackleton. ... more   less
