Charming hotel in a quiet neighborhood. We had a very nice room altho it was in the downstairs with hardly a view. It was a very nice 2 room suite with nice furnishings. The bed was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep both nights we were there. Staff was friendly altho one front desk lady was a bit...

Ideally located for us within 15 minutes walk from city centre and in a quiet area. The hotel suited our short stay perfectly. The room was spacious and clean with all the facilities you would need. The staff were friendly and helpful and gave us good advice about local amenities. Perfect for couples.

Booked a few days whilst attending conference at EICC. Good location if, like me, you like a 20min walk to a venue in the morning. Very good staff and homely lobby area. Not the place for you if you prefer light, airy rooms. Dark wood and patterned wallpaper. Breakfast in conservatory also quite dark as a basement extension. Handy location,...

On arrival the front of the hotel was very attractive, the reception area attractive, but immediately apparent that the hotel was in need of some tlc due to the main staircase carpet looking very worn. All staff were helpful and friendly during our 3 night stay. Our room was bright with a beautiful big bay window on the second floor...

Four nights there recently. Head for Edinburgh twice yearly, and can write a book about satisfactory (not many) and dreary places. Channings was very different. A sort of romantic charm which is typical of the placid area (not stylish Stockbridge but Comely Bank of Georgian architecture). The hotel has many art-nouveau features, indeed every room on the ground floor or...

I wish I had taken more notice of the negative reviews of this hotel; they are much more accurate. I find it fascinating that any positive review of this hotel is acknowledged by the manager whilst negative reviews are ignored. The people who run this hotel are arrogant and do nothing to solve problems which in my experience include; •...

Channings is an attractive city hotel with character and the service was good. Breakfast was done well and the price we paid for a double room was extremely fair. In fact we were upgraded to a junior suite with out asking. When we needed to spend an extra night we were accommodated at the same rate. It is situated on...

I stayed here on a business trip and it's in a great location and is handy for getting around the city. It's quite a quiet area so not too much noise. The rooms are a very good size and have everything you need for a leisure or business stay. I would say that the rooms could definitely do with a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia reflecting the history of previous tenant Sir Ernest Shackleton. ... more   less
