Stayed 2 nights. Room is a reasonable size, well equipped. A good selection for breakfast. Staff were all very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The ground floor is being refurbished, so is closed off. Reception is on level 1. It did not affect our stay. Would love to head back when they are finished to see it finished. Tour...

Dear Guest I am really pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and our refurbishment work did not affect you. The hotel should really benefit from all the work and, as you mentioned, hopefully you will be able to return soon and see the changes we have made. Thank you for taking the time to post a review and...

Now from the outside the hotel doesn't scream out at you for attention but don't be fooled as inside more than makes up for it. The hotel is undergoing some renovation at the moment meaning there are no restaurant or bar facilities - you can however use their sister hotel along the road or order from the room service menu...

Stayed here on the 14th January on business and were informed when booking that the bar was shut for refurbishment , ironically the ceiling in the bar area was leaking water !! We did receive a £10 per room for drinks which was much appreciated and we sat in an adjoining room with our beers Staff were the big bonus...

We stayed in Apex City Hotel a couple of days ago. We went to celebrate my birthday, so it was just a 3 night trip, enough for a good chillax. On our arrival we got a complimentary upgrade due to my birthday, and I found a personal hand written card on our table whising me a happy birthday. We got...

Arrived in Edinburgh by car from the north and found despite or because of a useless route map that getting to Grassmarket was not helped by the poor signage-we had the same problem on the way out towards Glasgow. The hotel has a very good position not far from the castle and the Royal Mile. For its position not a...

Dear Michael I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us last year but was sorry to hear that you found your room to be a little too hot. We are currently carrying out some refurbishment work at the hotel, including adding air-conditioning to our new City plus rooms. Should you return again to Edinburgh in the summer it might...

Stayed with the wife for three nights in late November mainly to visit the Christmas Markets. Apex City Hotel is located in the Grassmarket near the rear of Edinburgh Castle close to a number of restaurants and great pubs. We like walking but bear in mind Edinburgh has lots of hills and it is a good twenty minute walk to...

As others have said some refurbishment underway at the moment but Hotel worked hard to minimise. Dear Guest Thank you for your understanding while we improve the hotel's facilities. As you correctly mentioned we are running with a temporary bar for a short period of time, but also offer our guests the full facilities at our sister hotel next door which has a restaurant, bar and leisure facilities available. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
