I booked this hotel for a two night weekend break as a Christmas present for my husband. We arrived late afternoon and on arrival as the room wasn't ready, we were offered a complimentary drink in the bar. We parked the car in the hotel car park and unloaded our luggage. Once the room was ready, we went up. We...

Dear Pip Christmas in Edinburgh is always a nice time of year and I am glad we did our bit to make it a special stay for you. I'm sorry we could not stretch to snow but at least the weather was not too bad! I am really pleased you had a good time and hope you will return again...

I recently had a two night stay at this hotel. The room was tidy and comfortable with a great castle view. The bars and restraints were less than 2 minutes walk from the hotel which was practical. The only downside to the hotel us the parking costs which are £12 per night. I feel this should be free in the...

Dear Kelly I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us and found the hotel convenient for the many restaurants and bars Edinburgh has to offer. We try to keep our car park charge to a reasonable price as we know that parking in Edinburgh is very expensive. We do not include the cost in our room charge so as...

Stayed in this hotel for a two night break with my partner. Couldn't have asked for more. It is in a quiet location yet still only five minutes from the royal Mile and about 15 from princess street. The reception staff are very helpful and friendly and the room are spacious and clean. Ours ever had a view of Edinburgh...

Booked for Hogmanay and wife's 50th birthday celebrations. When I booked this I let the hotel know it was for my wife's 50th, and asked if it was possible for a castle view room. Arrived 2 hours early and was given complimentary drinks in the bar until room was ready. Champagne was on ice in the room with chocolates and...

The location was very convenient for accessing all the city centre attractions, walking distance to the Castle ( although up substantial steps ) which we could see from our room and the grassmarket area had the feeling of a continental plaza. Apex city hotel is a small, modern and clean hotel. Rooms are fairly simple but done to a high standard. Breakfast is a little on the expensive end in my opinion, however, staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was very reasonably priced considering how central the location is. Overall a great stay and I hope to be back.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
