We spent 2 nights at the hotel and although quite expensive it was actually very nice. The rooms were comfy and staff very nice and helpful we even got a free drink from the bar due to having to wait for a table at breakfast, the wait was less than 3 minutes but cheers for the beer!! Breakfast was excellent... More

Spent three nights in this hotel. The hotel overall is very modern and tastefully decorated. The facilities are up to date, rooms and bathrooms very cosy and well equipped with wide screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities also wi fi included. The food was delicious and portion sizes quite generous. The staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and efficient.... More

Dear Guest I am really pleased you enjoyed your recent stay with us and appreciate you taking the time to post a review. Your room tip is good advice as it really helps us to know in advance if our guests would prefer a room with a view or a quieter room to the rear of the building. Thank you... More

We stayed here for a long weekend in March, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Location: To start with, the hotel is in a great location. It's about ten minutes walk to the Royal Mile and the Castle (although there's quite a hill to climb), and right in the middle of Grassmarket, with many pubs and restaurants. The street outside can get... More

We stayed here for two nights whilst on my stag do. There were ten of us and they were very accommodating (admittedly our age range was 35 - 60 so not too much trouble). The building is very nice and modern. It is in a great spot with close views of the castle from the front. It is a short... More

This is a great hotel in a perfect location. Less than 10 minutes from The Royal Mile, within walking distance from Princes Street and surrounded by bars and good restaurants. This does mean it can get a bit noisy at night but as long as you realise that when you book then you accept that. The view of the castle... More

Dear Anne Thank you for your review. I am glad you liked your room and enjoyed the view of the Castle. This is a hotel that I have used several times and that, in itself, says a lot about this Apex hotel. I find the hotel comfortable with top quality beds and bedding. A well presented hotel with excellent facilities in a great location. The hotel is situated in the Grassmarket (plenty of pubs) and is only 10 minutes walk from most major attractions. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
