Stayed overnight at Mercure and had a fabulous time. We were in a superior room which had a balcony and the view was fantastic. The room and bathroom were spectacular , really clean. Staff all very pleasant. The lounge could do with a bit of an uplift . Will definitely return. Thank you

We had a one night stay here and we're delighted with the friendliness and helpful attitude of the staff. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast The central location makes the hotel and ideal base for touring the town. (we parked at Hermiston and came in on the bus, right to the door!) Our only complaint was that the bathroom door...

I recently stayed at the Mercure (Princes Street) whilst on work business in the capital, the hotel's location is really central directly opposite the Scott Monument/Princes Street Gardens and 5 minutes walk from Waverley Station. I had a double room booked which sadly didn't have view onto Princes Street, the room was fairly compact with the double bed and a...

The hotel is centrally located right on Princes Street, within walking distance from the train station. The staff were friendly welcoming. I arrived before check in time and they allowed me to store my luggage and complete the check in process so that it was quicker after the check in time. The breakfast was extensive and very good. The only...

This hotel is in a good central location above street level with front facing rooms having a view overlooking the castle and princes street gardens. The hotel itself is dated and could do with renovation. The staff were friendly and helpful.

I travel a great deal for business, both locally in the U.K. and internationally, and have stayed in Edinburgh before but never at this hotel. And I never will again. It is the worst Edinburgh hotel I've ever encountered and amongst the worst I've ever stayed in. The hotel is desperately in need of refurbishment. On checking in I had...

We recently stayed at the Mercure for one night as a short getaway weekend in Edinburgh. We were delighted with the view from our room but the room itself, especially the bathroom, was a bit dated. Although everything was clean being so outdated made the room appear a little musty. The breakfast the next morning was nice but we were...

During all of these years the ladies toilets have never been refurbished or upgraded. On Saturday last...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
