This is truly a unique experience as, when you enter, you are in a typical Scottish pub. They check you in at the bar. The location couldn't be better and, even though you are in a busy and "noisy" area of Edinburgh, the rooms are completely quiet allowing for a great sleep. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and, due to no lifts (warning to those with mobility issues, this may not be a good choice for you) happily carried our luggage up to our room. The room itself, while not over-large, had all the amenities plus some you wouldn't expect (like an iced wine holder). The bed is extremely comfortable, large shower with all the bath amenities including heated towel rack. We ended up using the convenient pub downstairs (part of the hotel) for breakfast, a lunch or two, and even dinner. Easy walking distance to every major attraction in the city. Highly recommend this little gem.

Worth the splurge. After more than a week of traveling the UK, our final stop on our trip was Edinburgh. We needed to make the most of our time in the City, and the Inn is in the thick of it all. Centrally located, under a five minute walk from the train station, very walkable to the museums, Castle, or the Palace at either end of the Royal Mile. Lots of pubs and shops all around. A bagpiper spent the afternoon playing outside our window - can't get any more of a Scottish experience than that!

Accommodations are very comfortable! From soft bedding, to a full standalone bath tub and rainfall shower in our double room. They provided a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, and there was a mini bar that included Scottish Whisky. The view from the room's many windows (nearly floor to ceiling) had great sights of the Royal Mile. While it was a lively area, we had no problem with street noise or the restaurant below.

The pub on the ground floor of the Inn is a nice vibe as well, with live music every night, good service and variety of food/drinks. A nice spot for a nightcap while staying on site.

This site was on the pricier end of accommodations available, far from unreasonable for any city, but it was worth it with the location and amenities, allowing us to see all the prime sites of the old city in an efficient way to make the most of our visit.

Hi ASlats23, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review of our inn. We are thrilled to hear that you found our accommodations to be comfortable and that you enjoyed all the amenities we have to offer. It's fantastic to know that our central location made it convenient for you to explore the city. We are glad that you were able to make the most of your time in Edinburgh and visit the various attractions, museums, and the Royal Mile. And how incredible that you had a bagpiper playing outside your window! That truly is a Scottish experience to remember. We're glad you appreciated the little touches we provide, such as the complimentary bottle of Prosecco and the mini bar with Scottish Whisky. It's great to hear that your room had stunning views of the Royal Mile and that you didn't experience any issues with noise from the street or our restaurant. We're also delighted that you enjoyed the atmosphere of our pub, with its live music, good service, and variety of food and drinks. great location right in the heart of all tourist sites, restaurants, cafes
the room was ultra modern with nice touch to have a hair straightener as well as hair dryer. the bar fridge was well stocked, snacks were tasty and the mugs and plates provided were stylish. the tea kettle as well as coffee pod machine was great to have. The terry robes provided were nice but could have been softer if fluffed in a dryer.Since we went in winter month, it was nice to have a Dyson room heater provided.
Overall - worth going back again!

We booked a room here for a special 40th birthday getaway based on the website, which promised luxury "boutique style rooms". The room we were given was not properly cleaned - bath had hair in it, room was dusty amd generally felt unkempt. Initial complaint to duty manager resulted in a promise that she would sort it while we were out for dinner, but there was not a noticeable improvement when we returned. I discovered when going to bed that there was make up and hair on the bedding...really didn't want to get into the bed but was exhausted and had no choice at that time of night. I wish I had thought to take photos.

We had prebooked breakfast when booking our room, booked directly on the hotel website. It promised both cooked and continental breakfast and was £15 each. We were presented with the standard pub breakfast menu instead, with most items being £4-£8. We both had the Full Scottish Breakfast at £14 to get our money's worth, but would have preferred the continental breakfast that was advertised. Thankfully we were only staying one night. We discovered later in the day that we had been charged a second time for breakfast.

Upon arriving home, I emailed management about our stay and politely asked that they refund the second breakfast charge and partially refund our room charge due to the poor state of the room. They apologised for the lack of cleanliness and offered us a free night's stay rather than a partial refund, which was unsatisfactory as we live in Northern Ireland and it would have to fly over again (not to mention get our 4 children minded) to avail of it. They also denied we had prepaid for breakfast, despite us attaching a copy of our booking confirmation. Upon sending a screen shot of this for a second time, they conceded we had paid twice and refunded the second breakfast charge. They didn't explain however why they took bookings for a continental breakfast that they clearly didn't provide.

To be fair to the Inn on the Mile, the location is excellent, their prices are reasonable and the food we had was very good! But the state of the room and not-as-advertised breakfast spoiled what was a rare getaway for us as parents of young kids, and the special occasion of my husband's 40th Birthday.

I can't say I would recommend booking here and was disappointed with their refusal to partially refund our payment, since the room was clearly not as advertised and not even properly cleaned. I wish we had booked somewhere else for our trip instead.

This is a nice bar on the Royal Mile, very central and busy location, and easy to walk to from the railway station. The bar is nicely decorated inside and there is a little outdoor seating area at the front. The staff I met were very friendly student staff who were warm and chatty.

My room was very nice and well-appointed, albeit in an old building with the usual maintenance issues to be expected in a property of that age.

I wouldn't describe this as a hotel - there is no hotel reception and it is simply rooms over the bar. I was very surprised and disappointed to find that the property is not staffed overnight. I did not feel at all comfortable with this as a solo traveller, and if I had been aware of it I would not have booked this room. When I have stayed in similar properties in the past, there have been clear information in the room and by exit doors with contact details and procedures for emergencies, the times staff would be there etc. I found no such information here, so had there been a fire alarm or other need to contact staff, I had no way of doing so. I found this very poor practice and unsafe.

There is a separate entrance at the rear of the property to access rooms when the bar is closed. Rooms are upstairs via a wide open staircase with large landings, but it is then necessary to go through an additional door into a small hall from which all rooms on that floor are accessed. I didn't find this a safe way of getting to a room alone late at night.

I didn't stay for breakfast as there was some confusion over whether it was offered, but there are plenty of places nearby.

A sizeable luxurious room in a really good location of Edinburgh. The building itself is really nice, and the bar downstairs is good for a tipple.
As it was my 30th birthday they offered me and my partner a drink on entry which was a nice touch.
The facilities in the room we stayed in was really good, such as the free standing bath, drench shower and Bluetooth speaker system.
Minor downside was the noise out on the streets going into the early hours, but I suppose you should just expect this given it’s popular location!
Breakfast was in with the price, it was ok and had a fair amount of options to choose from. Overall A really good stay. Thanks

This hotel is brilliant! It’s in a bustling location, right on the Royal Mile. The check-in was easy. I arrived a couple hours before check-in and the reception held my luggage til I could access my room. The rooms are accessed via stairs and need key to gain entry to the rooms. My room overlooked The Royal Mile and was really comfortable. Many amenties were offered; mini fridge, hair dryer, flat iron, water kettle, tea and coffee, and little brownies. The bed was big and comfy. The bathroom was especially modern, a big tub, walk-in shower with nice pressure and a big sink. All the windows were able to open, I love getting fresh air. The lights on the hotel were in front of my room but there were covers that blocked the light. Another reviewer mentioned pigeons and yes the pigeons did perch in front of the room however the view outweighed the visible poop. Hotel was in between holyrod and the castle with many restaurant and shopping options within steps of the hotel. There was one night that a gang of men were shouting at each other but I often pack ear plugs and they were not outside my room for too long. The inn on the mile was a great hotel and would recommend to anyone.

My mother and father in law stayed at the Inn on the mile recently for two nights and were massively underwhelmed with the ‘boutique hotel’ experience they were promised. They were greeted by a lovely and attentive member of staff who showed them to their room. Upon entry they notice what my MIL could only describe to appear as a blood/brown stain on the wood floor. They brought this to the attention of staff who said it wasn’t blood but coffee and spot mopped over the stain. It was clear the floor had not been properly cleaned between guests. It was later noticed that the toilet bowl also had clearly not been cleaned as it was black round the inner rim and base of the bowl. The toilet seat was broken and staff assure them this would be rectified asap- it was not.
The following morning they headed down for breakfast ( which they paid extra to have ) and were met with undercooked sausages and cold breakfast, when the staff member asked if everything was okay this was brought to their attention and sadly this was dismissed. My MIL ordered an orange juice as they had ran out at the buffet and was left waiting for 20 minutes for it to arrive. The girl who served them was lovely and very attentive although she seemed under pressure and could have been doing with more help. Overall breakfast wasn’t great as people could be seen walking in off the street meaning residents who had paid for breakfast with their stay were not always getting the service they expect. The only exit/entrance to the rooms appeared to be via a door to a staircase leading from the restaurant/bar area with no real fire exit separately from the rooms. It’s sad as they paid £400+ for two nights in this hotel and we’re left less than impressed, advertised as a boutique hotel but overall unorganised and not the cleanest. Unfortunately they wont be visiting again.

We stayed here 10th December for 1 night. After leaving our bags we headed into the city for food and a few drinks and came back around 6pm to get ready for the evening. We were told that we had been given a lovely room with a large freestanding bath and rainfall shower....but that the hot water was currently not working but we would be informed when it was back on. We went to the room and waited. We called down numerous times and were told that they had engineers coming from Glasgow!! In the end, we waited in all night and missed our evening. To make matters even worse, the boiler must have been next to our room and we had loud banging of pipes etc until 11:30pm. When we discussed our disappointment with the lady at reception she gave me an email for Garry Watson and apologised for the inconvenience and said to email him. I have done this twice and waited but had no reply. I called the telephone number and was told that the person on the call was working from home and could not assist.
This is shocking customer service and I am very disappointed. What a waste of a trip to Edinburgh.

We booked a table for a evening meal on the actual date of our Wedding Anniversary, 23 rd of July for 6.30, the previous day on a whim, whilst we were exploring the Royal Mile area. They do not have Wheelchair access toilets, as the toilets are down stairs in the basement, and that was pointed out when we made our booking, as my wife is a Wheelchair user.
So what would it be like, firstly we arrived early, 3/4 of an hour early, after a spending some time killing time in the general we went in to see if we could be served earlier than booked, and it was a yes. A little bit of table shuffling soon had us seated. So as to the meal, we both had a roast, few drinks and my wife had a desert, everything was spot on, staff, service, etc., they could have asked us to come back at our booked time, but they didn't.
You get the general background noises you get in a pup that also serves meals, but it's not that intrusive, they also do live music, but we were too early for that, and even more given the location, you don't hear much of the goings on outside.
The acid test is would we go back, well having been given the phone number at the time we made the booking, just in case we had to cancel. It is saved in my phone for the next time we are in Edinburgh. So the answer is yes.
