stayed with my wife for 4 nights in March, you get what you pay for, a basic but clean and tidy hotel, accessible for trips into town on the local bus ( Edinburgh ) both the old town and the new, costs £1.50 for each trip , better to buy a day pass for the whole day , can be... More

Very good staff. Friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is in an old hospital and is in a great location. Just about all the interesting restaurants are within a short walk. The bathroom was nicely renovated and the room itself had so many electrical outlets - clearly, they were thinking about modern guests. The only reason they get a 4... More

My fiancé booked me a trip to Edinburgh for my birthday, we booked this hotel not knowing much about Edinburgh, We decided to walk from the station to the hotel (bad idea) eventually after getting lost and tired of hills and stairs we got a taxi (best option!) We arrived at the hotel, staff were very helpful. They had a... More

Stayed for one night , although not as central as I had hoped, the room if a little small for the price was clean and the bed bed very comfortable. The manager should be very proud of his /her staff because could not fault any one of them, from check in to check out they could not do enough to... More

I took a trip here at the start of February with my girlfriend for my birthday, a weekend break in Edinburgh. The hotel was lovely from the outside very aged but also looking modern at the same time, an interesting twist. We were greeted as soon as we got into the hotel by the reception who checked us in straight... More

We were in Edinburgh to attend a concert and booked a hotel which gave easy access both to the venue and the city centre. We knew we would arrive hours before check in time, however on arrival the receptionist made enquiries to see if there was a room available for us. Unfortunately there wasnt but it was nice that she... More

We stayed in a family room with our 2 young children, the room was really spacious, clean and comfortable. We booked in B&B and the breakfast was lovely with great choice including full... More

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The location is fantastic; about 10 minutes walk from Princes Street, very near to the university and within walking distance of lots of lovely cafés and bars. We were able to leave our luggage in the cloakroom before check in and for hours after check out. The rooms were clean and modern, with... More

Most of the staff (especially the general manager- David [?]) was incredibly kind and helpful. It was definitely nice that we could get breakfast delivered to our room for those mornings that we had early tours planned. The location was ok, it was fairly close to the city centre sights. Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
