When I read about Bell's Brae, I knew we had to stay there on our trip. It sounded so romantic and charming. And it was! As we walked down the cobblestone road to get there, we felt like we had gone back in time. Stephanie immediately greeted us and showed us to our lovely room. She and Stewart are wonderful...

First and foremost this is not your typical B&B. It is more like being a guest in a friends home. There is only one comfortable room with a babbling brook just outside your small balcony. You are made to feel at home the minute you are met at the door by Stuart and Stephanie. At the same time you are...

I located Bell's Brae House on the internet in Australia when planning a Family History tour for April and May of 2015 and was looking for accommodation specifically in Dean Village. The booking and follow-up were easy and without problems. My stay was relaxing and the atmosphere friendly and personal. It was home away from home.

While planning our anniversary trip to Scotland, Bell's Brae was a priority since it was booked up on our last trip to Edinburgh. We enjoy staying in quaint historic places with beautiful scenery. Never could have imagined such a peaceful and relaxing place. Hear the birds sing and the water from the creek upon awakening from a great night's sleep...

We love historical special places to stay and Bell's Brae is amazing. IT is a 16th century mill house- just one gorgeous room with a view of the Leith waters..... up a winding stone staircase. The bed was extremely comfortable with great sheets! Fresh shortbread cookies home made by Stephanie who is delightful awaited us along with hot coffee, teas,...

Just lovely... this is an oasis of tranquility, so near the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh and yet so peaceful that you wake up in the morning and can hear the birds singing and the sound of the Water of Leith. The bedroom, which has a beautiful balcony overlooking the Water of Leith, is very cosy and warm, and it...

How lucky we were to find this oasis in Edinburgh. Its location in the west end is easy to access from the airport and town - but the last steps drop you into the very old, very beautiful, very natural setting of Deans Village and onto the doorstep of this most wonderful guest house. Listen to the birds out your...

We spend our last night stay of our trip at the Bell's Brae House. The room was comfortable, clean and elegant. The house was very close (walking distance) to places of interest for us. The host was very kind and helpful. The morning breakfast was superb. Definitely, I will book it again on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
