Nestled in a prime location, the InterContinental Edinburgh the George is celebrated for its charming elegance and stylish comfort. While many guests find the rooms and public areas beautifully decorated, a few have noted noise disturbances. The hotel's staff are often lauded for their exceptional service, contributing to memorable stays, although occasional service mishaps are mentioned. Although the hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, concerns about room size and signs of wear are voiced. The value proposition, however, is questioned by several travelers who feel the cost outweighs the benefits offered.

Our flight from Boston got us to the hotel at 8AM and we knew we couldn't check in, but Antonio's (more about staff later, b warm welcome proved to be the first of one positive experience after another during our 3 nights and one more returning from Mull!) He arranged to store bags and call when the room was ready. Then looking for a place to sit down—the lobby is lovely and in the original Georgian part, but my husband wanted to close his eyes—Dora let us into the empty library. He dozed and I took a walk. The location was perfect and we enjoyed getting to know George Street and all the ones off it. Returning at 4, (though the call came much sooner) our room had mistakenly been booked as a handicapped one (note if you need this, they are large and well equipped). We were moved to another large one with a view of the Firth, seating area and the huge bathroom with tub and shower, two sinks was so gorgeous I wished I had space in my home to duplicate it. High quality bedding in comfy bed, and just the kind of room you want to come back to after a day of much walking, which we do. It and the entire hotel was spotless. The breakfast in what was some sort of banquet hall offered delicious fresh food in abundance. Besides the buffet, you could order an omelette of any kind, kinds of eggs benedicts, pancakes, porridge and more cooked immediately. There were too many names to note and I've sadly forgotten some, but Christine, Rebecca, Thomas, Gavin, Frank, Ahmed, are a few. It sounds trite, but we really did feel part of the George family as we were there for all those days! We went off the beaten track in the city-yes went to the Catle and Holyrood-but also visited the striking parliament building and stayed to listen to a fascinating session about a report on increasing elected gender and other diversity representation plus coping with social media toxicity and bullying. Oh would that happen in Congress. A pipe dream. So, we will definitely return to Edinburgh and the George. We hadn't been in the city for many many years. Many thanks to all!!

From start to finish we had a wonderful experience at InterContinental Edinburgh, The George. We had a rapturous welcome when we checked in late in the evening, I was welcomed as a IHG Spire Ambassador member and we were both given bottles of water and advised that we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite. A £15 voucher was given to us to redeem against food & beverage purchases and also purchases from the mini-bar.

The suite was spacious and had already been turned down by the time we arrived. The suite was nicely furnished with facilities expected in a hotel of its standing, being road side we expected a certain amount of noise but there wasn't much noise at all.

The bed was incredibly comfortable which was needed after a tiring day of travelling. The Nespresso machine and tuck box consisting of local treats were an added bonus. The bathroom was ideal with a roll top bath and a powerful shower and also a good selection of Agraria toiletries.

We enjoyed our short stay immensely mainly due to the efficiency and kindness of the staff members and also because of the high level of comfort we experienced during our stay.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for four nights so that we could tour Edinburgh and celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome from the taxi door being opened for us and the hotel door. Very attentive concierge staff helped us with our bags to check in. Check in was quick friendly and efficient and then we were shown to our room by Craig who politely explained all the facilities in our room. Our room was on the 4th floor, very quiet and well presented, lovely toiletries gowns and slippers. Also included was a tuck box. Fully stocked mini bar was extra. We had breakfast every day and were warmly greeted and showed to our table, service was friendly and efficient and the staff took time to speak with us and answer any questions. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of choice. Concierge and staff - well what can I say, these ladies and gents are something special, they could not do enough for us and were always anticipating our needs whether it be a taxi to be called, advice about places to go or see, even offering us an umbrella for our trip out into rainy day. We cannot praise them enough they were all amazing and a n absolute credit.
We had a minor issue with the room that couldnt be helped - they dealt with it very efficiently by upgrading our room with no fuss, and delivered a lovely bottle of wine and truffles to our room free of charge. The manager Thomas took the time to come to speak with us about it also and was very polite and helpful. Although there was this minor issue the way it was dealt with completely resolved it and therefore I can only praise them for dealing with it so well. Of course we will be back and hopefully not before too long.

Me and mum stayed in this hotel from Monday 30 December 2019 until Monday 6 January 2020. When we arrived at this hotel and after being taken to room 760, it was a big disappointment. The room and the bathroom were too small. Also there was a weird noise coming from the rooftop in the middle of the night every night and mum couldn’t put up with it. On Thursday, we were moved to room 554 which was a lot better. The room were bigger and it had a sofa which I like resting on. Room 760 didn’t have a sofa. On Tuesday morning, the cappuccino we were given wasn’t hot as it was just warm. The two poached eggs we were given was a bit disappointing. One was OK and the second was hard. When we were given toast, they didn’t give us any plates for us to spread butter on the bread. On Wednesday morning, the cappuccino we were given wasn’t hot either. In our bedroom, we rang for toilet rolls and towels to be sent to our room and we waited for a few hours and still nobody turned up. We had to ring again for them to turn up. On Thursday morning, after asking for poached eggs, they took a while to bring it. On Friday morning, we had breakfast sent to our room and after asking for bacon, sausage, potato scones, poached eggs and two rounds of toast, they forgot to bring bacon, potato scones and only gave us one round of toast instead of two, so we had to ring again. On Saturday afternoon, we rang for room service, but it took about an hour for someone to arrive. Anyone who reads this review should definitely avoid this hotel as I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody. The only thing that was good about it was that the staff were very friendly.

We stayed for two nights and booked a room with a Forth view with a specific request for a stand alone shower.

Our room was excellent and pretty much everything we wanted. Breakfast is in the adjoining Printing Press restaurant and it was very nice. We also ate in the Printing Press one night, the meal and service was nice although the menu choice was not all to our taste (we are fussy eaters).

All through our stay the staff always hand a pleasant greeting when passing especially the reception staff.

On check out we were charged for someone else's drinks, the reception staff corrected this immediately, no questions asked.

The location of the hotel is excellent, close to many places of interest although there is no convenient parking if you are travelling with car.

Well worth a visit.

We loved this hotel. It was a very positive experience from start to finish. We were warmly greeted outside in the street and our luggage taken in and quickly delivered to our room. We were a family of 3 plus a dog. From previous hotel visits the dog has been treated as a bit of an inconvenience- not here- he was treated like a VIP! Check in was fast and efficient. Thank you to Thomas who was super nice. We loved our upgrade to a junior suite. They even have a mini sanitiser at reception to provide you with a sanitised key card. Our bedroom was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for our short stay, including a little treat box. We were at the front of the hotel on the first floor and had no disturbance from the street despite it being a busy Friday night in Edinburgh. The bed was so comfortable. And the power shower and roll top bath were both well used.
We had to queue for a few minutes to be seated for breakfast but otherwise breakfast was great with a wide range of options. Staff were all friendly and efficient.
This hotel is in a perfect location to explore Edinburgh and you can conveniently park outside on the street.
Perfect for an overnight stay- sorry not to be staying longer. We will be back.

I stayed at this hotel on an IHG special offer deal, and hence the value was reasonable, I very much enjoyed my stay. My room on the 4th floor gave good views of Edinburgh, and everything that one could need was provided. The room (405) was spacious and well equipped. There was no hotel information in the room, such as informing me about the restaurant etc, and so the hotel may well have lost custom, and there was no price list for the mini bar. The en-suite bathroom was rather too small. The buffet breakfast is plenteous and of a good quality, but overpriced at £21.95.

Tried to leave feedback on intercontinental system, they refused to accept because I mentioned the room was approx £200 a night???

Facts
The room with breakfast was £207
The room was cold during night-no extra bedding.
The tunnocks teacakes in the room cost £1 each!!!
The breakfast was lovely.

I felt for £207, teacakes should be free!!!

The location in new town opposite the Hard Rock Cafe is handy for the high street and designer shops. If you are spending more time in the old town it is still walkable if you don’t mind the trek up hill.
The hotel is lovely. I had a junior suite and was a little disappointed on the size of the bathroom for this. It had everything you would need but I do like a bath in a luxury hotel. I would have been happy to forgo the sitting room for this. Perhaps the junior suites don’t have baths in any room.
There were nice touches with snacks in the room and complementary mini bar.
We got half price parking using the recommended car park. Was handy enough but maybe 10 min walk depending how much luggage you have could be more of a struggle.
Not the fault of the hotel at all but we couldn’t have a hot meal at dinner time via room service or a hot breakfast as there had been a potential Covid issue in the kitchen and all kitchen staff sent home. Breakfast was included in room rate and continental breakfast was offered to be served. We didn’t opt to take it. Not sure the time frame of events but we weren’t told about this on check in after 3 but when we tried to book dinner about 6ish or so we were told this had arisen and it was followed up with a note through the door. We were assured it didn’t impact the rest of the hotel thankfully for safety. The hotel did offer to make arrangements or reservations if required. These are the times we have to work with.

We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary during mid October. The location of the hotel is excellent on George St, literally opposite The Dome and also many others bars and restaurants. We were allocated a King executive room on floor 5 (room 554 to be exact). The Room itself was ok, plenty of room, pleasing view, however the bathroom was pretty cramped and if paying over £250+ for a room I expect a nice large bathroom. The water pressure of the shower was also very hit and miss and again if paying a large amount for a room I expect good water pressure. The worst thing about the hotel was the WIFI, it was truly awful and I phoned reception on several occasions telling them that we were not receiving a signal (My husband had a few very important calls to make / receive). Our room was also not turned down on a night while we were out, we returned after being out for a meal and a few drinks and had to ring down to reception for clean towels and for the bed to be re made, Again, if staying in so called 4 or 5 star hotel this should be something that they do automatically (We are spire elite members with IHG aswell), very disappointing. The breakfast at the hotel was very nice and had plenty of variety for people to chose from, they also offer a la carte menu which you can order omlettes, egg benedicts etc from. Would I stay again?? mmmmm location is excellent but I think next time we will look elsewhere due to the poor bathroom, wifi etc.

Dear holidayfuntimes80, Thank you for your review. Following your feedback at the time we have discovered an issue with the WIFI in that part of the building that we are resolving at the moment. Disappointed that the bathroom experience was not as you expected. My sincere apologies for both of this issues. Turndown is currently a practice that is only on request due to the majority of guests wishing to minimise colleague contact within the bedroom. Very pleased however that you enjoyed the view & space in the Club InterContinental room you were allocated and that breakfast you found to have plenty of choice. We'd be delighted to host you again allocating a room with a larger bathroom, please do connect with us directly and I'm certain we can align your preferences to ensure you have a great stay with us. Warm Wishes Kieran and Team
