Hotel location is perfect if you're heading for a show at the Playhouse. Our room was very nice - large and airy, comfy bed, complimentary mini-bar with soft drinks and Tunnocks Teacakes!, rainfall shower, lovely decor etc. Would stay here again, the only thing really that marked our score down a little was (as noticed in a previous review), there...

We had no hesitation in booking Indigo once again for our annual trip to the Christmas Market. Reception staff, welcoming as usual and the room well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast great served by charming, helpful staff. Only slight niggle, noisy fan of Air con unit outside room 204 meant a disturbed sleep but will still be back there next year.

I booked this for the wife and I to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We chose this based on location and good reviews. Generally the stay was good, however I can't help but feel disappointed by the cleanliness of the room. The rug was filthy and the the shower tray contained lots of mould. Its such a shame that these...

Handy for everything in Edinburgh (if you know where you're going). Very smart hotel, decent room (if a little on the small side) but can' fault the facilities, fabulous shower etc. Had no time to eat/drink in the hotel but the bar area looked very cosy

We have just returned from a two night stay having stayed in other Hotel Indigos in the UK and this one matched up to them. The hotel is clean and well decorated and our room (301) was quiet and comfortable. The staff are all very helpful and made it a good stay. It is also conveniently located for Edinburgh town...

Stayed here with my partner for a long weekend, hotel was in a fab location with a 5 minute walk to princes street and just around the corner from John Lewis. We booked a king room although the bed did seem to be a double but not a huge problem. We stayed in room 111 which was away from the...

The hotel is the last stop on the tram from the airport which is great as you step off the tram straight into the hotel. Reception staff were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely with the offer of a full Scottish which sets you up for the day. The rooms were fine we were on the ground floor and...

The hotel is convenient for the city centre but we had a few issues with the room design. The bed was very high, the chaise wasn't very comfortable and a total of 7 seven table and floor lamps seemed excessive in a smallish room. In the bathroom there was a good shower but who needs a square toilet. The hotel...

Dear tc1954, Thank you for your review of our hotel. I am pleased you liked our breakfast and regarded our location to be convenient. However, please accept my sincerest apology for any inconvenience the service of our restaurant staff may have caused and if you found the room and amenities, not to your liking. I came here for the 2015 Fringe festival, and had a great stay. Very convenient location; friendly service; quiet; and steps from the city tram. Room was a little small, but I did not spend much time there. Internet was a little wonky, but the staff was very helpful in sorting it out (the all day passes weren't all day....

This is a remarkably nice small hotel tucked into an unassuming building in Edinburgh. It is only a 15 minute walk to the Edinburgh Castle and vistas across the entire city. The rooms are nicely appointed with high quality fabric and furniture. Plumbing is up to date, clean and functional. The decor is sort of future-retro. I'm not sure how...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
