Stayed at the Indigo for a wedding in Edinburgh. I must admit that getting to the hotel (using Satnav) wasn't too straightforward and parking (which I had not anticipated) was an issue. However, once we got ourselves organised and arrived at the hotel, things changed. A great welcome from Victoria (I am sure this is the right name), smooth, friendly...

My husband & I were down to see a show at the Playhouse so decided on this hotel as it was near. I didnt realise just how near it was, it's probably only a minutes walk away. The hotel itself is lovely, we had room 002 (which is downstairs, below pavement level so no view at all, apart from peoples...

I enjoyed staying here quite a bit. I was here alone, so space wasn't an issue, but the room wasn't tiny regardless. The place is clean, the staff nice, and the downstairs restaurant was quite tasty. (I had a pork and chorizo burger that was marvelous.) The neighborhood

Stayed here last week. It was clean enough but it was a little run in to say the least. The staff were very friendly although the girl serving breakfast could do with smiling once in a while. For the money there is better hotels out there so shop around. I wouldn't say this was a bad hotel as its not...

Great hotel, great location and lovely comfortable beds. Stayed here a few times and the standard is always high. The staff are all lovely and friendly ( I promise I'll try your peat whisky smoker in your bar next time!) the rooms actually have a bit of character about them as it is an old building. Oh and the full...

Stayed for two nights for my wife's birthday. Really nice and modern room which was spotless. Staff were really helpful and couldn't do enough for us upon arrival. The hotel is close to everything you need to enjoy and see Edinburgh, loads of pubs, restaurants and shops nearby. One of the best hotels we've stayed in!

This is a really nice boutique hotel. It was booked by my sister in law and was really worth it. The service from the moment we arrived until we left was excellent and friendly. it is in a really good location for seeing the sights. Walking distance to the train station. There is a small shopping centre located at the...

If you like quiet, smaller hotels with a personal touch then this is for you. The rooms were beautiful and very comfortable. The hotel is in a prime location for exploring the city on foot. We dined in their Restaraunt which was very good, breakfast the following morning which perfect as well. This is my go to hotel whenever I'm...

First things first we stayed here at Valentines Day so knew what to expect. A few things were not as good this time round or perhaps not seen through romantic rose tinted glasses! The style of the hotel and unsurprisingly the location had not changed and were still big positives of the hotel. Problems we had were at the bar...

We stayed at the Indigo after being bumped last minute from our reservation at another hotel. This was a good thing after all. The hotel is in a great location, convenient to many of the activities in the city. The hotel is very well kept with a modern design. We stayed here at the first and last of our trip....

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
