Struggled a bit with the hotel as it is a bit of a rabbit warren given its some old town houses all converted together, so finding my room and getting back to reception was a struggle (especially after a glass of wine)! No doubt its in a good location, handy for everything and easy walking distance from Waverley station. The...

Stayed here for a couple of nights recently and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The hotel is very well situated and handy for the city centre, or the restaurants and bars in the Broughton area of New Town. The beautiful Georgian exterior houses a very contemporary interior which is very clean and smart looking. The incredibly helpful staff were courteous and...

I stayed here with two friends in October 2014. We booked a triple room which was absolutely fab! The room itself was enormous with a little sitting area and a well stocked mini fridge! The room was lovely and bright and the bathroom was spacious and modern. The location is great, just behind Prince's street and practically backing onto a...

The room was lovely and hotel is in a prime location however the air conditioning was very noisy and so I moved to a different room. They handled this very well. The menu is very limited and not of a high quality anf the hotel itself is a maze. You will get lost!

Great hotel staff and fantastic restaurant. Only downside is they use swisscom who are terrible! Gym could also use some Polish but the staff are always happy to help and there's a great vibe from people who seem to enjoy working there. Always a pleasure to stay

It's in a lovely location. The staff was very helpful, kind, and fun. Excellent customer service. It was an interesting old building. The room was really nice and comfortable. And, there was some free snacks...which was nice :-)

I stayed her on 15 July 2015 for one night as a birthday celebration. I called the hotel prior to arriving to request an early checkin. The location was ideal being a very short walk to the bus station and to the centre of Edinburgh but far enough for it to be quiet. On arrival I was greeted by two...

Nice hotel, placed within walking distance from the main railway station but far enough. The exterior -you could pass by without knowing it was here. Its a compact hotel , well appointed rooms and comfortable (not much by way of views- at least where I was). Some freebies in the room were a good touch. However, by far the best...

A very convenient location at the end of the team line from the airport. A short walk into the old city staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was a good start to the day and the bar offered a good selection of gin an scotch whiskey. Will return again

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
