My husband and I stayed here and the staff was courteous and very accommodating. When we were given a room with a noisy neighbor they moved us immediately without any questions. Very nice hotel, nice staff and great location. We would stay here again.

The best thing we can say is that the location is amazing. The rooms, particularly street side are very, very noisy if you want to open a window to sleep so keep that in mind when booking a room. It is also challenging as a woman to get ready with poor outlets, and breakfast is just okay. We needed the...

We stayed at the Balmoral Hotel while on our Disney Adventures Tour of Scotland. Beautiful old hotel centrally located close to the Royal Mile and right beside the train station. Our rooms overlooking the city were spacious, beds were comfortable and the bathroom was roomy and clean. The breakfast buffet was huge with lots of choices. The staff were friendly...

Booked afternoon for 8 of the family to celebrate our grandson being cancer free. What can I say about this Edinburgh institution once again a delicious tea with champagne, great waiting staff who were very helpful to our American grandchildren who had never experienced afternoon tea. Next visit will be to celebrate Christmas, roll on!!'

The Hotel Balmoral was at the heart of a recent weekend vacation stay in Edinburgh. Situated between Princes Street and near the North Bridge over Waverly Station to the Royal Mile (i.e., located between Olde Town and New Town) this property is at the centre of a stay in the city. From the outside, the 19th century architecture is absolutely...

We stayed here for a week in an average sized suite. The staff were incredibly friendly and willing. I loved the fact they had kids teddies and a plate of cakes and sweets waiting for us. The pool is fabulous, the restaurant is great as is room service. I highly recommend this hotel to all customers. At breakfast one morning...

This is the BEST place to stay in Edinburgh. Elegant and worth the money. It was our second time staying here and we chose it once again because of our great experience the last time. We stayed here for 3 nights and also hosted our wedding reception here. I've nothing but amazing things to say about the hotel and staff who attended to our every wish. The wedding day itself was perfect and we really couldn't have asked for more. A must if you are in Edinburgh.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
