Loved this hotel and I cannot fault it! Outstanding and unobtrusive service particularly in The Whisky Bar and Number One restaurant. The staff in these venues were warm, knowledgable and professional. The food In Number One was superb and memorable and this restaurant is worthy of its Michelin star, in my opinion. Very helpful concierge and reception staff too. We...

This is a very nice hotel in the middle of Edinburgh. It is easy walking distance to all of the sites within the city. The rooms are standard size hotels room that tended to smaller than the new hotels usually provide. This is most likely because this is an old building. The service here was outstanding. We used the concierge...

I've been fortunate to stay in many of the world's greatest hotels, but this one, by far, wins the award for my most favorite. Excellent service, accommodations, and the greatest staff (especially the concierges). The location is perfect, and the dining options are top dollar. Comfortable rooms, classy and tasteful hotel, making any trip to Edinburgh one to remember.

We stayed here for the second time in July. We had been here about 15 years ago. The hotel is under different management, but it was still nice. The rooms were large and modern. The bathrooms were all very modern with fluffy towels and accessories. The breakfast buffet had lots of different offerings, although it was quite crowded one of...

You are close to the old city and ew city at same time. Located in the principal road of commerce, this impressive hotel has friendly staff and excellent rooms. Breakfast it's a feast and you'll eat enough to spend the day walking around the city and only stop for a late lunch.

The Balmoral is such a spectacular hotel that I am afraid to elaborate on the details for fear that I may never be able to get a room again due to overwhelming demand. Although the bed had an inferior mattress, everything else about the experience was perfect. Best hotel among thousands I have stayed in. Try rooms 228/230.

My husband and I stayed at the Balmoral in June of this year as part of a group, and we were so pleased with the travel agent's selection of this hotel. Once on site, we asked if it were possible to upgrade our room to one with a view of the castle, a request that was met with eagerness to...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
