The hotel is superbly placed and is a lovely building. The ambiance is extraordinarily pleasant and the staff are unfailingly helpful without being obtrusive. I have stated previously and can confirm a consistency of service. We will come again.

We stayed here for six nights for the occasion of our daughter's marriage and it was just wonderful. The staff made us very welcome at all times and could not have been more helpful. Everything about The Balmoral was simply wonderful and we would love to return one day. I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough.

My wife and I stayed in a Deluxe King room for 355 British Pounds per night. Positives - Central location in the historic district, just one block from the Royal Mile High quality hotel Historic atmosphere, but mainly on the exterior (interior is somewhat modern and bland) Very nice marble bathroom but only one sink Quiet room looking into center...

A beautiful old hotel, centrally located, The Balmoral provided the perfect vacation experience for our family. Excellent restaurants, good sized rooms and nice attention to detail are always hallmarks of a good hotel. This establishment has all these features; but what really elevates this hotel is the incredible warmth, competence and hospitality of the staff. From reception to housekeeping, we...

Fantastic location within walking distance of both old and new town. Service excellent. We were expecting the rooms to be better for the 5 star rating and price but still in excellent condition and clean. We were a family of 4 and children of ages 2 and 5 were greeted with a teddy and cookies. Overall very good.

Sadly could only stay one night. Room spotless - congrats to housekeeping and staff charming especially in Hadrians restaurant. Three of us had dinner two enjoyed theirs but was a tad disappointed with my fish course. Sole served with Portobello mushrooms and vine tomatoes?!!. Breakfast delicious and again with attentive service. Cannot wait to return.

This was booked by my good lady as a surprise for our silver wedding as a place we had both talked about during our various visits to Edinburgh. We were not disappointed. The place is one of the finest hotels in Edinburgh and very convenient for the city. We were upgraded by the hotel as they knew it was a...

This was booked as a special treat for a girls night in town. My mother arrived late afternoon and I about 9.30 pm both to differing welcomes. I've always loved the Balmoral and visited frequently although never stayed. I was so disappointed to find what had been Palm Court and latterly the Bollinger bar had been ripped out... Sadly an...

What a lovely treat. None of my guidebooks referenced this but it's worth the stop on your way to the museum. Finger sandwiches, dessert tray and then if you chose dessert trolley with your choices of tea and optional champagne. Attention to detail, excellent.

This is a very expensive 5-star hotel on top of Waverley station in the centre of Edinburgh, which makes it very practical if you arrive by train, since you do not even have to cross the street. Also, its clocktower is a landmark that you can see from all ver the city, so you will find your way back easily,...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
