We were two couples and booked rooms here for an overnight stay after attending a performance at Edinburgh Jazz and Blues festival.
Reception was friendly and informative. Electronic key to room and outside door if you are back late. After settling in to our room and setting out for drinks and then to find somewhere to eat we found another receptionist in place. Again, this member of staff was warm and friendly. On hearing we were intending to find an eating place, she said the attached Lebanese restaurant was good. We decided to try it and she offered to book a table. We went and her recommendation was absolutely justified.
Our room on ground floor was a very good size, high ceiling typical of this type of building, with a huge (comfortable) bed and usual hospitality tray, desk, tv etc etc.. The windows looked out on pleasant shrubs and had the original shutters to provide almost absolute dark for sleeping.
The ensuite was spacious enough with a walk in shower, good toiletries, lighting and towels.
Checkout in the morning was simple, another receptionist this time was still in training, but like the other staff was warm friendly and helpful.
A couple of minor personal niggles. The walk in shower has geat pressure, easily operated controls and adjustable water temperature is very good. However, the open design resulted in the floor outside the shower becoming swimming with water even though i tried redirecting the shower head. The floor is fully tiled but we thought, poor housekeeping they will have to clean all that up. So we used an unused towel to mop up best we could. Not ideal for laundry. Our friends in upstairs room experienced the same thing.
Second minor niggle for me, was the grouting around the shower drain plate really needs redone because it was discoloured and broken. It made it look dirty, which it was not, but not pleasant visually. Just my personal niggle experienced in several hotel bathrooms.
Overall, very friendly staff, comfortable spacious room, adequate amenities and excellent location made for a relaxed, enjoyable overnight stay.

I arrived about 20.00 after jumping a bus from Princes Street which pretty much stops 2 mins from the door of the hotel. Reception staff are very lovely and pointed me in the direction of my room up the sweeping staircase. I had a single room, single bed and bathroom. Clean and tidy with tea and coffee facilities and bathroom accessories. Bed was foam mattress and good quality pillows. Just what I needed for a 1 night stay. Had I have been picky I could have been annoyed that the blind was too small for the window so people across from me could watch me undress, the sash window was broken so had to jam the window open with a shoe, the floorboards squeaked so much when I walked I felt embarrassed incase someone was below me and the sink tap came off in my hand. None of the above effected my sleep, except at 8am the clatter of glasses/bottles from the hallway below woke me up. The breakfast was continental and £16 so I didn't entertain that, for that price I would expect a very good cooked meal. Lastly attached to the hotel, with access from inside is a lovely Lebanese restaurant where I had a very decent evening meal which was only a few pounds more than the advertised breakfast in the hotel..All in all I was not dissapointed as the niggles didn't ruin my stay by far. Good off street parking and plenty shops and restaurants in a few mins walk. So if I needed another over night stay I would definitely go back.. but with earplugs for the morning.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. The windows have hooks placed on the side panels which have to be opened out to keep the window open, these can be hard to spot, but they are there so the windows stay open without the assistance of other items. Due to the historic nature of the building the windows can be a bit difficult, but any member of staff would be happy to assist with them. Also the blind does fully cover the window it just needs to be levered down with the chain on the side. Please accept our apologies regarding the sound of glass bottles at 8am, we expect this would be from a nearby neighbour as the restaurant is closed at this time. Our continental breakfast on offer is £8 per person per morning, we're not sure where you have seen it advertised as £16, if you could let us know so we can get this fixed, that would be great. Nonetheless, we are delighted to hear you did enjoy your stay with us, despite these things. It was lovely to have you, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Lovely hotel room for the money here if you don’t mind being a walk from the centre. However it’s an easy 25 mins walk from Waverley station and also there is car parking, and the local area is bustling with shops, cafes, pubs, bistros etc whilst not as hectic as the tourist places near the royal mile. (And cheaper 😀)
So would recommend as good value
Rooms are large, comfy beds, large modern bathroom, smart tv, iron ironing board hairdryer fans and extra heaters and blankets
Excellent value for city hotel

I stayed here for a work trip and found it a quiet, comfortable and relaxing place to spend the evenings. The hotel is in a traditional townhouse so rooms seem large and airy with high ceilings which gives a nice ambiance. My room (meadowbank) was large and very well equipped - large tv, iron, hairdryer, fridge, coffee machine etc, and comfortable as it had a sofa and two armchairs. The bed was excellent with a fantastic soft mattress which gave a good nights sleep.

The hotel is about 25 mins walk or 10 mins bus ride from the centre and public transport availability is excellent from nearby. There are however plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance and a Lebanese kitchen on-site.

Only here for one night. And my experience of staying here was very comfortable indeed. Morgan greeted me on my arrival and she went through my check in with a smile. She also informed me i was also booked in for breakfast which i was unaware off as my stay was booked by another. An added bonus. Check in was quick and simple. My room was called Newington. On entering i was greeted by a very stylish view. I love grandeur and this suited me down to a t. Great big double bed all to myself, and very comfortable too. The room was cold when i went in as the window had been left open but once the shutters were in place and heating put on my room was toasty in no time. Free wifi which again is an added bonus. I didn’t spend time watching TV so it’s placing wasn’t an issue for me. A lovely walk in shower too which was just awesome. I’m easily pleased to be honest. The view from my window gave me the impression of a lovely secret garden, unfortunately i didn’t have time to explore. Breakfast was served from 8.30am onwards and there was a choice of cooked or continental. I chose the latter this time. The bearded guy who greeted me was pleasant and attended to my needs as and when. Overall i was very pleased with my first experience visiting this family run hotel, and would definitely stay again.

The Salisbury Hotel is a converted period home about a 15 minute walk from the Royal Mile. With conversions, rooms differ widely in size and shape, but mine (on the garden level) was enormous. The bathroom was as big as many bedrooms, the furnishings were comfortable and checking/out easy and convenient. The garden floor has a Lebanese restuarant with a hidden Sheesha garden which is worth checking out.

We have just returned from a three day stay at the Salisbury hotel. The last two days we were the only people staying in the hotel, but that didn’t alter the service we received, we even had room service for breakfast rather than going down to the restaurant which was perfect. It is situated on a quiet road, so no noise on an evening coupled with a nice comfortable bed made for a really good nights sleep 😴
It is an easy walk into the city centre or easy to catch one of the many busses. Thanks very much for making our stay very comfortable and special.

I had a booking for the 14th Feb, I wasn't able to make it, so changed the date via booking.com- I received emails and confirmation that the changes had accepted.
I also received messages from the hotel. My booking was cancelled on the day of my stay and no refund given.
The Hotel is blaming booking.com and have said they had no record of the changes - booking com have advised the hotel did accept the changes and it was cancelled because the hotel had requested more money- We'd agreed to pay this at the hotel.
So, I lost what money I'd paid and neither company have been of any help.
I'm in the process of taking this further. As I'm currently stuck in the middle and out of pocket

Lovely little Hotel, the room was very spacious and clean! The receptionist was very helpful. Parking was great but if you can't get parked in the car park you can park on the street outside for free on weekends. It's about half an hour walk to the city centre. Hotels amazing value for money and I will definitely stay again.
Thank you 😊

Room was fairly clean, reception staff were friendly. Curtain was hanging off the wall, bathroom was very small and has a frosted sliding door which may not be ideal for couples. Location isn’t ideal if it was raining like it was when we stayed, on the outskirts about 25 min walk from the centre. Didn’t have breakfast so couldn’t comment on this.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, and provide us with some feedback. We are glad you found the room to be clean and our staff to be friendly, we always go above and beyond to give all of our guests the best service. Our small double rooms have smaller bathrooms with sliding doors to help accommodate the space of those rooms, but once the doors are slid close they do offer full privacy. Our superior rooms have more space, and larger bathrooms which can be more accommodating for couples. We are located about a 25 min walk from the city centre, but there are plenty of bus routes linking you into the city, and taxi rides are relatively cheap ranging from £5-£10 to get you into the city. We hope these things did not negatively impact your stay too much, and hopefully we will see you again soon.
