Comfortable, clean, great location and a staff that always went the extra mile. Would return in a heartbeat. Hard to find staff that invested in making ones stay comfortable and memorable. Centrally located so easy to travel to all the sights.

I have stayed twice in this beautiful former grand home. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful library and bar for gathering with fellow guests. Excellent breakfasts and lovely views from rooms in back. 25 minute walk to central Edinburgh, and lovely neighborhood and paths right outside the B+B. Would stay again but not in room #015 -- too small!!!

The hotel very well located to the places to be. On the other hand it's quiet and the personnel is very helpfull although they have a lot to do, especially at breakfast (included!) time. The hotel seems to have been the former home of the owner of 'the Scotsman' (the newspaper). Its a beautifull building with a lot of original...

A little gem in Edinburgh, not far from the west end of Princes Street, and dog friendly too. The only minus point may be there is no restaurant, breakfast only available, but Edinburgh is a great place to eat out so not such a problem.

We stayed here on our first few days on a Rick Steves tour of Scotland. This B + B building is charming both inside and outside. Everyday the breakfasts were delicious and there were several choices to select from.

This was our first trip to Scotland and I Highly recommended this lodging for a visit to Edinburgh. Distance to most attractions was within reasonable walking distance. Our room was much larger than an average European hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

Excellent service, great view of Dean Village. Bed was comfortable, and bathroom was clean and bright, though one of the sconces was not working. Beware, though, that the lighting in the library is atrocious, and makes it unpleasant to be in, so don't count on spending any time there.

Super nice staff! Lovely Scottish breakfast served on linen table cloth. Nice bedroom. A bit on the small side but convenient and big enough for us. Really nice bar with cozy atmosphere. The area was calm and felt safe and with easy access to the city centre.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
